If this is an issue in engine, restarting engine may fix this.
but having this problem only with one node, I don't think this is the issue.

If this is an issue in vdsm, restarting vdsm may fix this.

If this does not help, maybe this is libvirt issue? did you try to check vm
status using virsh?

If virsh thinks that the vms are paused, you can try to restart libvirtd.

Please file a bug about this in any case with engine and vdsm logs.

Adding Michal in case he has better idea how to proceed.

I was afraid I was doing something wrong with it. I'm happy to know I'm not the
only one to found a bug in every stone I move in oVirt.

I'm not sure happy is the word, as oVirt is the only tool that fits my needs.

What do you mean by "bounced" - reboot?

Can you share the output anyway? We like to understand these warnings.

According to Zdenek, this looks like major configuration issue.

Can you share the output of:

lsblk
pvscan --cache

We see similar errors in this bug:

I've bounced the box a few more times and it seems to come back every time.

Hi,

today I tried to upgrade from 3.6.4 to 3.6.5, as usual with
engine-setup. This time it gives me an schema update error and after
this the database is corrupt and gives me the same error you get.

Did you create a bug entry?
I'm tired of creating bugs for oVirt. Every time I touch oVirt I hit 1-5
bugs, it's so time consuming :-(

Fedora uses mirrormanager:

I would not go that far. Creating zones per continent (for example)
might be enough.

The default configuration seems to only allow 250 hosts per datacenter.

Yes, it worked this way, as previously confirmed in a private message also
from Gary Lloyd (thanks!)
It was just to notice this misalignment: a new installing user (nearby the
broken mirror) will get 3.6.3 and not 3.6.5 and neither 3.6.4, as the
reported mirror site missed that too (3.6.4 released on late March) and is
not aligned since more than one month now...

Hi,

I remember filing a BZ about this topic some years ago.

I will mail it tomorrow to this thread as I had this exact issue, as a
user of the rest api (without any persistent authentication).

the answer, as I recall (I haven't access to this BZ atm), was to simply
truncate the event log, which is far from a "solution" at all.

Hi,

this seems a little surprising.

At least RHEV states in the documentation you support up to 200 hosts
per cluster alone.

There are no documented maxima for clusters or datacenters though.

@awels: to add another layer of indirection via a dedicated
hosted-engine per outlet seems a little much. we are talking about 500 *
4GB RAM at least in this example, so 2 TB RAM just for management
purposes, if you follow engine hardware recommendations?

But I agree, ovirt does not handle unstable or remote connections that
well, so you might be better of with hundredths of remote engines, but
it seems to be a nightmare to manage, even if you automate everything.

My personal experience is, that ovirt does scale at least until about
30-50 DCs managed by a single engine, but that setup was also on a LAN
(but I would say it could scale well beyond these numbers, at least on a
LAN).

The reason I mentioned manage IQ is that it would give you one tool to manage
everything. You would not have to do much (perhaps the initial setup) in the
oVirt manager. After that everything goes through manage IQ. Since it is
designed to manage the managers it is much more fault tolerant which appears
to be one of your requirements.

As far as max number of data centers goes. I am not entirely sure to be
honest. But I believe your proposed setup will push the engine beyond it
limits. I would definitely go with multiple engine instances, maybe in zones
where the connection to the hosts is better, and then something to control the
engines from a central location (like manage IQ).

Re: [ovirt-users] Max amount of datacenters per ovirt engine

2016-04-26 Thread Martin Sivak
Hi,

I think that 1000 hosts per engine is a bit over what we recommend
(and support). The fact that all of them are going to be remote might
not be ideal either. The engine assumes the network connection to all
hosts is almost flawless and the necessary routing and distance to
your hosts might not play nice with (for example) the fencing logic.

I would too recommend you to split the deployment into multiple
engines, especially if you do not plan migrating VMs between satellite
locations.

hi,

I want to clone a snapshot from one datastore to other datastore in

But I cant find the correct command?

Is there any command for cloning the snapshots?

Thanks.

Sounds like a good use case for manage IQ. If possible I would do hosted
engines in each satellite location, and then use manage IQ to manage the

[ovirt-users] Max amount of datacenters per ovirt engine

2016-04-26 Thread jo...@familiealbers.nl
Hi all, i have a somewhat awkward requirement to deploy datacenters to around
500 satelite locations. Each datacenter will have 1 or 2 hypervisors and if 2 a
cluster with glusterfs for shared storage will be deployed. I am expecting to
run between 4 and 10 vms per data center. During operations it is expected 20%
to 40% of the satelite locations will be down or have a very bad connection to
the engine. I will still like to manage these datacenters from ovirt engine.
Does anyone have any figures on how many datacenters i can add given what
requirements for a single engine and perhaps some best practices for dealing
with 'bad' connections between the hypervisors and the engine. Thanks a lot!

[ovirt-users] Import storage domain - disks not listed

2016-04-26 Thread Sahina Bose

Hi all,

I have a gluster volume used as data storage domain which is replicated
to a slave gluster volume (say, slavevol) using gluster's
geo-replication feature.

Now, in a new oVirt instance, I use the import storage domain to import
the slave gluster volume. The "VM Import" tab correctly lists the VMs
that were present in my original gluster volume. However the "Disks" tab
is empty.

GET
https://new-ovitt/api/storagedomains/5e1a37cf-933d-424c-8e3d-eb9e40b690a7/disks;unregistered
-->

In the code GetUnregisteredDiskQuery - if volumesList.size() != 1 - the
image is skipped with a comment that we can't deal with snapshots.

How do I recover the disks/images in this case?

[ovirt-users] Import and Exporting domains (to export/import across datacenters) no longer working

2016-04-26 Thread ccox
In the past we had a 3.4 and a 3.5 ovirt. I was able to attach an Export
domain to one, export Templates and/or VMs... put in into Maint mode,
Detach it from the datacenter, go to the other ovirt manager, import the
Domain (sometimes forcing an attach, sometimes it would automatically
attach) and import my VM and/or template. Afterwards, placing it back
into Maint mode and Dettaching.

Often times there would be a residual icon left under Storage for the
detached item... and the process was fairly repeatable.

Now, it's getting repeatable in a bad way. Now it won't import, I have to
manually do two table record deletes and a REST call to remove the
connected storage and then and only then can I successfully import.

psql db mods look like (from the ovirt manage box):
First to find erroneous data:
select * from storage_domain_static where storage_domain_type = 3;
Then we locate the offending uuid (see full one below on the REST call)
and delete the record our of storage_domain_dynamic and static like so:
engine=# delete from storage_domain_dynamic where id =
'9f00c1d9-3f2a-41b9-80c3-344900622b07';
DELETE 1
engine=# select
Deletestorage_domain_static('9f00c1d9-3f2a-41b9-80c3-344900622b07');

Folks here talked about the latter command, but it would fail if the
reference in the storage_domain_dynamic table wasn't removed first.

Rest call looks something like this:
curl -v -u "admin@internal:ourpassword" -X DELETE
https://ovirt.example.com/ovirt-engine/api/storageconnections/9f00c1d9-3f2a-41b9-80c3-344900622b07

Any ideas about what is not apparently broken on our site?

Is there any other way to do export/import across datacenters?

Hello,
are the issue related to oVirt web site only or to rpm packages too?

It seems that on an test environment with all-in-one hosted engine in 3.6.3
I'm not able to get any updates to put it at 3.6.5 level...

Also after "yum clean all"

  # yum update "ovirt-engine-setup*"
doesn't get anything and

  # engine-setup

lets the system at 3.6.3 level

[root@ractorshe ~]# engine-setup

A global "yum update" pulled in only a newer ovirt-release36 from the oVirt
repo:

[root@ractorshe ~]# rpm -qi ovirt-release36

Try adding port 443 to the URL variable.

private static final String URL = "https://10.64.0.204:443/api
";

In 3.6.5 the engine VM could be edited from the engine itself and its
configuration will get loaded by the HA agent on the next attempt from
a volume called OVF_STORE; if it's not available, oVirt HA agent will
fail back to its initial vm.conf from deployment time.
In order to get your OVF_STORE the datacenter must be up and for that
you need to add your first storage domain for regular VMs.
So simply add your first regular storage domain and wait.

[ovirt-users] ovirt java sdk: Port is invalid

2016-04-26 Thread David David
hi.

I have a remote server running with oVirt 3.5

I'm using ovirt-engine-sdk-java-3.5.1.0-1.fc20.noarch.

there is code example:
my app:
=
package lab01;

import java.io.IOException;
import java.util.List;
import java.util.UUID;

import org.apache.http.client.ClientProtocolException;

import org.ovirt.engine.sdk.*;
import org.ovirt.engine.sdk.decorators.*;
import org.ovirt.engine.sdk.entities.*;
import org.ovirt.engine.sdk.exceptions.*;

public class Hello {

private static final String URL = "https://10.64.0.204/api;;
private static final String crt =
"/home/david/Desktop/dev/server.truststore";
private static final String user = "admin@internal";
private static final String pass = "";

public static void main(String[] args) throws
ClientProtocolException, ServerException,
UnsecuredConnectionAttemptError, IOException {

Api api = new Api(URL, user, pass, crt);

}
}
==

Description of problem:

While trying to start my app localy on my pc, I am getting an exception:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Port is
invalid
at org.apache.http.util.Args.check(Args.java:36)
at org.apache.http.conn.scheme.Scheme.(Scheme.java:92)
at
org.ovirt.engine.sdk.web.ConnectionsPoolBuilder.createSchemeRegistry(ConnectionsPoolBuilder.java:358)
at
org.ovirt.engine.sdk.web.ConnectionsPoolBuilder.createPoolingClientConnectionManager(ConnectionsPoolBuilder.java:289)
at
org.ovirt.engine.sdk.web.ConnectionsPoolBuilder.createDefaultHttpClient(ConnectionsPoolBuilder.java:261)
at
org.ovirt.engine.sdk.web.ConnectionsPoolBuilder.build(ConnectionsPoolBuilder.java:413)
at org.ovirt.engine.sdk.Api.(Api.java:131)
at lab01.Hello.main(Hello.java:24)

But I can connect to the server in https using curl or webrowser.

How to fix it ?

[ovirt-users] [hosted-engine] Dedicated LUN for hosted_engine data domain?

2016-04-26 Thread Wee Sritippho

Hi,

I used to install oVirt hosted-engine 3.5 using fibre channel storage.
It required a dedicated LUN, which can't be used by other VMs, to host
the hosted engine VM. Therefore, I have to create a small LUN (50GB) for
the engine VM in addition to the LUN that I used to host other VMs.

Does this still apply in 3.6.x?

I'm currently using 3.6.4 and notice that I can now choose to create a
new domain using the LUN reserved for the hosted engine (I didn't choose
that LUN, but when I create my first data domain, 'hosted_storage'
domain was created automatically and that LUN can't be selected by new
domains anymore), and am able to deploy a new disk to 'hosted_storage'
like any other data domain.
