[ovirt-users] Recommended bonding modes?

2016-05-22 Thread Alan Murrell

Hello,

I am wondering what the recommended bonding modes are for the
different types of networks:

  - Management/Display
  - Guest VM Traffic
  - Storage (NFS)

For the purposes pf this post, assume mode 4 is not available.

For Management/Display, I am thinking mode 1 (active-backup) is
adequate since there generally isn't a lot of traffic being pushed
through.

Storage, I like mode 0 (round robin) due to some performance results I
have seen, though I understand this has to be setup in "custom
bonding". Mode 6 seems like it would do well here as well.

Guest VM traffic is the one I am not sure about. There could be a lot
of traffic going back and forth, so I would want all the interfaces in
the bond active to balance the load. Of the supported bonding modes,
either 2 or 5 would seem to be the options.

I am just wondering what others' thoughts and experiences are.

Thanks! :-)

Regards,

Alan

Syncing a network means applying the DC config on the host (overriding the
actual host config).
Since as you mentioned, the DC config is old and not relevant,
I guess it is not working since you're trying to apply wrong
address/gateway/netmask on the management network, it causes the engine lose
connectivity to the host, and eventually ends up with a rollback.

What you need to do is to update the DC config to be same as the host config.
Since the out-of-sync properties in the attached image are address, gateway and
netmask of 'ovirtmgmt',
you need to open the 'setup networks' dialog and edit the 'ovirtmgmt' network
(clicking on the pencil icon).
In order to be able to edit the network, you first have to mark the 'sync
network' checkbox in the dialog. Then modify the address/gateway/netmask to the
host value.
Then click 'ok' and perform the setup networks ('ok' to the setup networks main
dialog).

Please post (a link to?) full logs. Depending on exact point/reason, which
can't be seen in current snippet, this should include at least full
hosted-engine-setup logs, and also perhaps engine (from engine vm) and vdsm

Having to upload system-provided ISOs manually make for a bad UX IMO,
we need a better solution for that (Say I want to upload the the ISOs
to my own ISO domain, where to I find them? how do I know the ones I
found match the oVirt version I have? This is a hassle, VMware has
VM->right-click->deploy guest tools).

So far we had at least one way to get around the hassle, before we
remove it, we need a better solution IMO.
