Re: [ovirt-users] Cannot add Hosted Engine Host because of missing answersfile

2016-07-04 Thread Matt .
Hi,

I did a new installer re-imported my old engine and it's all fine again.

I think, or it should be nice that the hosted engine install checks
don't rely on dns only. It fails at the end even when you are using
/etc/hosts which should work fine.

It's known that when DNS doesn't work well the engine GUI is getting
slow, but that is just not that big of an issue for the install.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi all

I've logged case 01662585 with GSS.

I see that RHEV 4.0 beta is in the customer support portal, I'm going to
see if we can upgrade our current DEV RHEV environment to 4.0 BETA so we
can start testing early.

Thanks

Yes, unfortunately the best option, since you installation never
completed, is to clean the hosted-engine storage domain and restart
from scratch.
If you use the engine appliance (yum install ovirt-engine-appliance)
the whole installation will take about 15/20 minutes (excluding
download time).

Do you mean it failed on the first host?
The configuration is written on the shared storage if and only if the
 first host successfully deployed.
If you have an issue on the first host you cannot simply add other
hosts and you have to fix there first.

Fernando, can you describe exactly how you moved the disk?

I assume that you selected the vm in the virtual machines tab, then selected
disks from the sub tab, then selected move, and selected the target
storage domain.

Also, can you reproduce this with a new vm? (create vm with disk nfs, stop vm,
move disk to iscsi, start vm).

We put in serial either
1. the UUID Engine send to us
2. the host UUID as returned by our getHostUUID utility function

the latter is unlikely to change, even after this disk move.

So the first suspect in line is Engine

Arik, do you know if Engine is indeed supposed to change the UUID in this flow?
That seems very surprising.

Thanks and bests,

Infiniband should not be bridged.
Ovirt tries to build a bridge over a NIC if the network is a VM one. Please
verify that it isn't.

[ovirt-users] ldap and multiple profiles

2016-07-04 Thread Fabrice Bacchella
I want to setup two LDAP base profile.

One is backed using an active directory (for real users)
One is backed using an openldap (for service account).

I have to problem with this setup.

One it's that in the log I see many "Creating LDAP pool 'authz'" and "Creating
LDAP pool 'authn'". If I have two LDAP backend, I'm afraid they will be a
conflict of ldap pool if they used the same name.

I tried to add in my openldap.properties:

search.simple-namespace.pool = authz-prod
search.simple-user-fetch.pool = authz-prod
search.simple-resolve-groups-member.pool = authz-prod
search.simple-resolve-groups-memberOf-item.pool = authz-prod
search.simple-resolve-groups-memberOf.pool = authz-prod
search.simple-query-principals.pool = authz-prod
search.simple-query-groups.pool = authz-prod

Is that enough ? And Why is it replicated many time ?

I have another problem, there is a stupid bug in my openldap configuration, but
it will be difficult to resolve that.

In it, there is two naming context
dc=sub,dc=example,dc=com
and
dc=example,dc=com

Ovirt only see the first one, and of course, with a little help from Murphy, I
need the seconde one. Is there anything I can do about that ?

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt Node NG 4.0.0 wants to bridge my infiniband link

2016-07-04 Thread Giorgio Biacchi
As I said, Infiniband is not ethernet so it cannot be L2 bridged. This is normal
and I understand why it can't be done. I'd like to know if there's a way to
configure host networking for infiniband link without bridging because is not
necessary to have a bridge there. In addition to this, 3.6 behavior was
different. Here's all the relevant configuration files generated by 3.6 and 4.0:

- 3.6 ---

So it seems that 4.0 generates more files and wants to bridge an ethernet
unbridgeable link. Steps to attempt to configure the connection for 4.0 was the
same done successfully for 3.6.

Thanks again

Indeed, that is what I thought, but does this mean I need to reinstall

600 seconds seams more than a reasonable time to create an empty DB,
if it requires more than 10 minutes for a simple/short operation there
is probably something strange with the storage.
I monitored the host RAM/CPU usage and the utilization of the Ethernet
interface on the shared storage. RAM and CPU usage were minimal and
there was barely anything going through the network interface. I can
confirm that the network interface is fine as it is heavily utilized
when the engine setup uses it to copy the image to the storage. I'm not
sure what other statistics I should monitor to see if there's a bottleneck.

5. Without using cloud-init, the setup creates an engine VM that I cannot

Yes, the engine VM host-name and its root password are configured via
cloud-init and there is not default password.
If you want to avoid using cloud-init you have to reset the root
password of the engine VM as for any el7 machine.

6. Destroying the VM (option 4) leaves the files intact on the shared

intentional, but the use of kvm terminology (destroy for power off) is not
common, not to mention that "virsh -r list --all" does not list the VM
anymore.

On failures, there is not just the engine VM disk but a whole storage
domain for hosted-engine which also contains ancillary disks.
Re-deploying over a dirty storage is not supported so please clean up
the whole storage domain on failures.

As I remember the IBoIP is not fully implemented Ethernet protocol, it does
not support bridging.

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt Node NG 4.0.0 wants to bridge my infiniband link

2016-07-04 Thread Giorgio Biacchi
Hi,
hooks are only needed to set connected mode and the correct MTU on the
infiniband link. The problem is bound to the host networking setup procedure.

Here's the hooks:

cat /usr/libexec/vdsm/hooks/before_vdsm_start/10_set_ib0_connected_mode
#!/bin/sh

echo Setting IB connected mode
echo connected > /sys/class/net/ib0/mode
sleep 3
MODE=$(cat /sys/class/net/ib0/mode)
RATE=$(cat /sys/class/infiniband/mlx4_0/ports/1/rate)
echo ib0 is now in $MODE mode with rate $RATE

cat /usr/libexec/vdsm/hooks/after_network_setup/10_set_ib0_connected_mode
#!/bin/sh

echo connected > /sys/class/net/ib0/mode
sleep 3
ip link set mtu 65520 dev ib0

As you can see they work:

[root@node]# systemctl restart vdsmd
[root@node]# ip l sh dev ib0
5: ib0: mtu 65520 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP
mode DEFAULT qlen 256
link/infiniband 80:00:02:08:fe:80:00:00:00:00:00:00:00:02:c9:03:00:0a:08:c7
brd 00:ff:ff:ff:ff:12:40:1b:ff:ff:00:00:00:00:00:00:ff:ff:ff:ff
[root@node]# cat /sys/class/net/ib0/mode
connected

In networks tab in the admin portal I've defined a logical network ibstorage
with the correct MTU.

When I attempt to setup host networking vdsm generates the ibstorage device and
a config to bridge it with ib0 but ib0 is not an ethernet device so it cannot be
bridged. With 3.6 the configuration was directly applied to ib0 without any
bridge.

Thanks

Re: [ovirt-users] Communicating with ovirt agent

2016-07-04 Thread Tadas
We are mostly using Debian based distros (Debian, Ubuntu).
And since this is a massive project it takes much time to adopt it to different
distro and also maintain it.
On the other hand our project is in production at the moment and the only thing
that was still unfinished was SSO part. With help of oVirt agents it will take
little time to extend SSO in our code.

Indeed, it is EL (CentOS, Scientific, etc.) friendly.
Which distribution are you looking for?
(And of course, patches are welcome).

Which distribution are you looking for?

Re: [ovirt-users] Upgrade from 3.6 to 4.0

2016-07-04 Thread Arman Khalatyan
about a n hour ago I just tested to setup ovirt 3.6, then upgrade it, 2
nodes: host and ovirt on separated machines.
very smoothly upgraded, first engine upgrade then host upgrade.
The only trouble on hosts is that some pacages are still reffering to
ovirt-3.6 repository even ovirt-4.0 is there.
it is simple to fix: yum list installed| grep ovirt-3.6 then removing all
possible packages
next reinstall host from GUI.
Thats it.

[ovirt-users] Do vm's on host start up after crash if the Engine is down

2016-07-04 Thread Jonas Kirk Pedersen
Hello I am curious to what happens if ovirt and our hosts goes down due
to power failure and the ovirt-engine will not start up. Does the vm's
that was on the hosts before the crash start up again when the host is
online or does the hosts need the engine for starting the vm's Is there
some kind of cache that tells the hosts to run these vm's? Maybe from
the vmsd. Not hosted ovirt-engine but dedicated hardware for ovirt-engine.

Yes, it is supported but only for OVA appliances that are generated by vSphere

What kind of OVA did you try to import from? (how it was generated?)

[ovirt-users] 'Image does not exist in domain' while moving disks

Hi,

I tried live and shutting down the vms. I also can't make snapshot of

[ovirt-users] Ovirt Node NG 4.0.0 wants to bridge my infiniband link

2016-07-04 Thread Giorgio Biacchi
Hi list,
I'm trying a test installation of the new Ovirt Node Image and engine before
upgrading my 3.6 installation.

In my current environment every hypervisor access the NFS shared data domain via
infiniband. With a couple of vdsm hooks I was able to set the infiniband link in
connected mode and set a MTU of 65520. In my case the infiniband link is used as
a common NIC, I don't use RDMA, only IP over infiniband to access the data
domain.

Now, when I attempt to setup host networking, the system try to bridge the
connection "ibstorage" (defined in networks tab) with ib0 device. But a non
ethernet device cannot be bridged that way and host networking setup fails.

Any idea or suggestion? With 3.6 (node and engine) all was fine.

Thanks

It's not that easy and not that safe.
It will be much easier and quicker to simply redeploy the first host.

Can you please report the version of ovirt-hosted-engine-ha and
 ovirt-hosted-engine-setup from your working hosts?
Can you please attach hosted-engine-setup logs from your first host?

Re: [ovirt-users] [oVirt 4.0] Is it possible to access oVirt through a reverse proxy

2016-07-04 Thread Martin Perina
Hi,

first let me explain more thoroughly how things works in 4.0. Here's a bit
simplified login flow:

1. Let's assume that ovirt.example.com was set as FQDN during engine-setup
2. User tries to access http://ovirt.example.com/ovirt-engine/webadmin
3. SSO authentication filters checks if user is authenticated and if not,
user is redirected to https://ovirt.example.com/ovirt-engine/sso/login.html
4. User enters its username/password and if successfully authenticated,
user is redirected back to original URL:
http://ovirt.example.com/ovirt-engine/webadmin

Here are installation use cases which we assumed to be mostly used for
oVirt (let's assume that engine is installed at host1.example.com, your
proxy host is proxy1.example.com and you want you oVirt instance to
accessed using alias ovirt.example.com):

1. Most users don't use any proxy, so the easiest method is to setup DNS
alias ovirt.example.com pointing to host1.example.com and after that use
ovirt.example.com during engine-setup as engine FQDN

2. If host1.example.com is in your internal network and you want
ovirt.example.com to be accessible from both internal network and Internet
you need to do the following:
  - For you internal clients you need to do the same steps as in 1. in
your internal DNS server
  - For your external (Internet) clients you need to create another DNS
alias ovirt.example.com pointing to your firewall (for example to host
firewall.example.com) in your external DNS server and setup proper port
forwarding from firewall.example.com to host1.example.com

3. If you need to use different FQDN for engine (for example you want to
use proxy proxy1.example.com), then some manual config is required:
  - Execute engine-setup and use host1.example.com as engine FQDN
  - Setup you proxy in proxy1.example.com as in previous versions
  - Setup your DNS and add DNS alias ovirt.example.com pointing to
proxy1.example.com
  - Go to host1.example.com and create new file
/etc/ovirt-engine/engine.conf.d/99-setup-http-proxy.conf with following
content
   ENGINE_SSO_AUTH_URL="
https://ovirt.example.com:443/ovirt-engine/sso;
   SSO_CALLBACK_PREFIX_CHECK=false

  - Restart ovirt-engine service

After above steps your oVirt instance can be accessed using
http://ovirt.example.com, but all traffic to it will be redirected through
your proxy at proxy1.example.com.

If none of above scenarios are usable for you, then please describe
thoroughly your current setup. We may be help you with additional manual
configuration or we will need to create an RFE bug for oVirt.

Thanks

Martin Perina

We don't support 7.0 you need Centos 7.2

If you are running 7.2 look at /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log to see why it isn't
functional

Hi,
I am also interested to upgrade my system from centos 7 ovirt 3.6.7 to
ovirt4, are there any preferable order to upgrade? Host then engine? or
engine then host?
thanks,

Is it the same in case of single host with CentOS 7 and hosted engine?

Re: [ovirt-users] Communicating with ovirt agent

Yes, and it works fine. Though we went for a simplier solution.
Also, one of problems is that oVirt is very distribution-oriented. To
use it on distributions different than Redhat requires lots of tuning.

Re: [ovirt-users] Cannot add Hosted Engine Host because of missing answersfile

2016-07-04 Thread Matt .
Hi,

Yes, the issue is that I don't have that info on the shared storage
indeed. I was wondering if I just can create it manually.

I would like to add some to the documentation there if it's possible.

Logs will be posted :)

Depends on your current system.

Or it is just a normal upgrade procedure?

It is in some cases.

I'm currently running oVirt 3.6.7 on CentOS 7.

If not hosted-engine, normal upgrade.

For hosted-engine please see a recent thread on this list with
subject line "upgrade hosted-engine os ( not hosts )".

For an engine on el6, in-place direct upgrade to el7 is not
supported. You can use backup/restore migration:

Do you mean it failed on the first host?
The configuration is written on the shared storage if and only if the
first host successfully deployed.
If you have an issue on the first host you cannot simply add other
hosts and you have to fix there first.

600 seconds seams more than a reasonable time to create an empty DB,
if it requires more than 10 minutes for a simple/short operation there
is probably something strange with the storage.

Yes, the engine VM host-name and its root password are configured via
cloud-init and there is not default password.
If you want to avoid using cloud-init you have to reset the root
password of the engine VM as for any el7 machine.

On failures, there is not just the engine VM disk but a whole storage
domain for hosted-engine which also contains ancillary disks.
Re-deploying over a dirty storage is not supported so please clean up
the whole storage domain on failures.

Re: [ovirt-users] Cannot add Hosted Engine Host because of missing answersfile

2016-07-04 Thread Matt .
Hi Sure I can, I will attach them today.

The install failed at the end as the installer/deploy didn't like my
hostfile on the vdsm host where I was doing the install. The install
of the engine went fine.

I don't think it's a bug, it could be tackled when such thing happens
but still, it was a config issue what actually shouldn't be an issue
to let the full install succeed.

Do you upfront have an idea if I need to do a full new deploy ?

I will grab the logs for you later on.

Do you want them in a bugreport ?

Thanks,

Matt
