Hi,

It is expected behaviour guys from VDSM added this error to give
indication where code still use old xmlrpc and not jsonrpc.

4.0.3 has been a short cycle release to fix some urgent bugs / regression
on top of 4.0.2.

4.0.4 will have probably a longer cycle and even if we just released 4.0.3
GA, having fixed more than 100 bugs comparing to 4.0.3 seemed a good idea
to issue a RC allowing people afflicted by those bugs to have a fix to test
as soon as possible.

Re: [ovirt-users] Software RAID installation fails

2016-08-31 Thread Brian Moyer
Fabian,

There's no way for one to stick with auto-partitioning when using
software RAID. Your question did, however, lead me to question if I
had ever gone through the "I will configure partitioning" path with
just the default generated mount points. I had not, and it would
appear to not be a problem with RAID, but a problem with any manual
partitioning. I'm now very surprised that I cannot find anyone else
having this issue.

Thanks,
Brian

Re: [ovirt-users] Unable to backend oVirt with Cinder

2016-08-31 Thread Natalie Gavrilov
Hi Logen,

I'll refer only to using authentication , because I had configured it
previously.
This means: /etc/cinder/cinder.conf should have: auth_strategy = keystone
I'm using keystonerc file, example keystonerc_admin:

unset OS_SERVICE_TOKEN
export OS_USERNAME=admin
export OS_PASSWORD=password
export OS_AUTH_URL=http://CINDER-HOST:5000/v2.0
export PS1='[\u@\h \W(keystone_admin)]\$ '

export OS_TENANT_NAME=admin
export OS_REGION_NAME=RegionOne

This will be step by step as much as possible just to make sure nothing is
missed (assuming Cinder and Ceph are configured correctly).

Go to:
External providers -> Add
Fill in the fields:
Name:
Type: OpenStack Volume
Provider url: http://CINDER_HOST:8776
Check "Requires Authentication"

Fill in the information, this is an example:
Username: admin
Password: password
Tenant name: admin
Authentication URL: http://CINDER-HOST:5000/v2.0

Test should return "Test succeeded, managed to access provider."
Now click Ok.

Now lets configure additional information:

Lower pane: Authentication Keys
Click on: New
Fill in UUID field with rbd_secret_uuid
and value :which is the key (it's in /etc/ceph/ceph.client.USERNAME.keyring)

Hope this helps..

Natalie

I've got Cinder configured and pointed at Ceph for it's back end storage.
I can run ceph commands on the cinder machine and cinder is configured for
noauth and I've also tried it with Keystone for auth. I can run various
cinder commands and it'll return as expected.

When I configure it in oVirt it'll add the external provider fine, but when
I go to create a disk it doesn't populate the volume type field, it's just
empty. The corresponding command for cinder: cinder type-list and cinder
type-show returns fine and it is public.

Ovirt and Cinder are on the same host so it isn't a firewall issue.

This logs start when vdsm is using 567640 kB (554 MiB) - very unusual.

The memory usage grow by 18 MiB during one day. No garbage collection
issues. This smells like we keep some data forever for no reason.

Also, can you describe the workload on this hypervisor?

I suspect that the grow is related to a memory leak.

We need more details, see bellow...

When I boot up the system and activate the host the memory consumption
is about 600MB. After 5 days running and host in maintenance mode the
memory consumption is about 1,4 GB.

I need to put my hosts in maintenance and reboot to free memory.

You can restart vdsm (systemctl restart vdsmd) instead, running vms
are not effected by this.

Can anyone help me to debug this problem?

We had a memory in vdsm-4.18.5, fixed in vdsm-4.18.11. Since you
are running 4.18.11, there may be another leak.

Please enable health monitoring by creating
/etc/vdsm/vdsm.conf.d/50-health.conf

[devel]
health_monitor_enable = true

And restart vdsm.

Please run with this setting for couple of hours, maybe one day,
and then share the vdsm logs from this timeframe.

You may disable health monitoring by setting

[devel]
health_monitor_enable = false

Or by renaming or deleting this configuration file:

/etc/vdsm/vdsm.conf.d/50-health.conf.disabled

Hi Sandro,
does this mean that 4.0.3 was final, 2 days ago?
I indeed noticed a strange subject in that e-mail

[ANN] oVirt 4.0.3 Final Release Candidate is now available

There were both "Final" and "Candidate" words ... and I was a bit
confused...
Also if this is true, any particular reason to have a new release candidate
right 2 days after the previous final?
Is it not too fast for users to stay ahead? Or do we need to consider
"Release Candidate" phrase in a different way than usual?
Only my opinion...

did you try another browser?

ovirt-imageio-proxy is running.
Logs attached.
Nothing interesting in ovirt-imageio-proxy logs. Just start events.

Make sure ovirt-imageio-proxy runs in your engine's host.

Can you please attach ovirt-imageio-proxy logs from /vat/ovirt-imageio-proxy,
engine logs and your browser's console logs as well?

Please dnf/yum update ovirt-engine.

Hi lifuqiong,

There are several ways to import disks into oVirt

Does the disk contains any snapshots?
if not, the disk file can be copied to the storage domain and you can register
it using the Register button (see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1138139)

You can also take a look at the image-uploader, see

What is the use case that you want to do? What is the origin of the disk (Was
it an oVirt disk?), as asked before, does the disk includes any snapshots.

1. Move storage domain to maintenance
2. Edit domain, change mount path, options, etc.
3. Activate the storage domain

2016-08-31 Thread Edward Clay
I believe if you put the SD in maintenance mode you can change the mount
options and I believe the IP field. I don't believe you should have to
remove it and re-import it. I could be wrong.

If you click on the storage tab and select your SD in the bottom details
pain you can put it into maintenance mode under datacenter.

All VMs will have to be down to do this.

[ovirt-users] Changing the gluster mount point in ovirt 3.6

2016-08-31 Thread Goorkate, B.J.
Hi all,

I recently moved my gluster back end to a dedicated gluster network.

Now I would like to change the mount point of my master Storage Domain
to point to that network too. Is that possible?

I tried to detach the Storage Domain from the datacenter in order to
re-add or import it with the new IP-address, but I got the message:

"Error while executing action: Cannot remove the master Storage Domain from
the Data Center without another active Storage Domain to take its place.
-Either activate another Storage Domain in the Data Center, or remove the
Data Center."

Has anybody got an idea on how to solve this?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Bertjan

Yes, true that you need to do manual partitioning when choosing to use a RAID.

For manual partitioning there are a few constraints which we did not
document yet - patches are welcome!

The constraints are:

- Use thin LVM
- /boot on a separate partition
- /var on a separate LV
- / on a thin LV

This should allow you to perform the installation - If I do not miss anything

Re: [ovirt-users] Unable to backend oVirt with Cinder

2016-08-31 Thread Logan Kuhn
Thank you for your response, but unfortunately it still doesn't work.

I can do cinder-ey things from the command line, including cinder list,
type-show, create. The keystonerc_admin file that I use matches yours with the
relevant bits changed for my environment, password, region etc. I've filled out
the External Provider dialog with the admin user, cinder user and a new user.
The dialog reports that it Failed to communicate with the external provider and
to consult the log. The log reports the following:

2016-08-31 08:04:21,518 INFO
[org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.provider.TestProviderConnectivityCommand] (default
task-46) [20342b40] Running command: TestProviderConnectivityCommand internal:

'org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.provider.TestProviderConnectivityCommand' failed:
EngineException: (Failed with error PROVIDER_FAILURE and code 5050)

Which is very obvious that the username/auth that ovirt is sending isn't
allowed to create, but it's using the same username/password that's in the
keystonerc_admin file that I can do various command line things with.

This is my keystonerc_admin file:

OS_AUTH_URL=http://10.128.7.252:5000/v3
OS_PASSWORD=adminpass
OS_PROJECT_DOMAIN_NAME=default
OS_PROJECT_NAME=admin
OS_REGION_NAME=WRI
OS_TENANT_NAME=admin
OS_USERNAME=admin
OS_USER_DOMAIN_NAME=default

I had to make add certain fields and change the auth url to v3 otherwise it
reported either a malformed URL or more commonly, 401 Unauthorized. Which made
me wonder if it's a compatibility issue with the v3 API. I've been working with
Openstack Mitaka and ovirt 4.0.2 and 4.0.3

Regards,
Logan

Right, global_filter exist so you can override filter used from the command
 line.

For example, hiding certain devices from vdsm. This is why we are using
filter in vdsm, leaving global_filter for the administrator.

Can you explain why do you need global_filter or filter for the
 hypervisor disks?

I don't know, but I don't see why lvm would scan the lv for pv and thin pools,
this should happen on on the guest.

We never had reports about such issue.

My apologies, I hadn't realised iptables were setup. `iptables -F` solved the
issue. I'll look into good iptables later, just poking around to see what I
can do with ovirt riht now.

This does not seem to work. The host can not be activated as it can't
find his volume group(s). To be able to use the global_filter in
/etc/lvm/lvm.conf, I believe it should be overridden in vdsm's lvm.conf
to revert back to the default.

I've moved my filter from global_filter to filter and that seems to
work. When lvmetad is disabled I believe this should have the same
effect as global_filter? The comments in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf indicate also
udev might ignore the filter setting?

When vdsm runs the lvchange command to activate the LV of a VM (so it
can boot it), will LVM still try to scan the new LV for PV's (and thin
pools, etc)? Is this also prevented by the auto_activation_volume_list
parameter in this case?

I am aware of this issue, but in this case I would rather mess with a
hypervisor that no longer boots because it needs an updated lvm.conf
than try to fix corrupted VM's because the host was accessing the disks
of the VM while it was running on another node.

Against which component of oVirt should I file this bug?

I've now applied both of the above and regenerated the initramfs and
rebooted and the host no longer lists the LV's of the VM. Since I
rebooted the host before without this issue, I'm not sure a single
reboot is enough to conclude it has fully fixed the issue.

You mention that there's no solution yet. Does that mean the above
settings are not 100% certain to avoid this behaviour?

I was thinking of setting a global_filter in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf to only
include the PV's for the hypervisor disks (on which the OS is installed)
so the system lvm commands only touches those. Since vdsm is using its
own lvm.conf this should be OK for vdsm?

The only problem with this filter is it may break if you change the host in some
way, like boot from another disk.

It would be nice if you file a bug for this, and mention the configuration that
fixes this issue, we certainly need to improve the way we configure lvm.

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-engine on Fedora 24

2016-08-31 Thread Martin Perina
AFAIK we don't configure IPs which Apache should listen on, we just add
handling for '/' and '/ovirt-engine' URLs and configure SSL certificate. So
could you please check if default Apache config hasn't changed between F23
and F24 (for example listening on IPv6 only by default)?

Thanks

Martin

[ovirt-users] Change Engine History Logging from Advanched to Basic

Is there a way to change the Engine History from Advanced to Basic ?

If so I also would like to know how to empty the DB for older data
when it's on Basic again, manually.

As far as I recall, it should listen to the address of the fqdn you
specified during installation.

Bug 1310837 - oVirt cannot be accessed through IPv6 address

made it possible to access ovirt-engine through IPv6, but it surely did
not cacelled the more common IPv4 access. Adding Rav.

could you share the output of `ip a` from your host? to which address
does your fqdn resolve?

We expect the same thing, but unfortunately systemd and lvm try to
auto activate stuff. This may be good idea for desktop system, but
probably bad idea for a server and in particular a hypervisor.

We don't have a solution yet, but you can try these:

 1. disable lvmetad service

 systemctl stop lvm2-lvmetad.service lvm2-lvmetad.socket
 systemctl mask lvm2-lvmetad.service lvm2-lvmetad.socket

 Edit /etc/lvm/lvm.conf:

 use_lvmetad = 0

 2. disable lvm auto activation

 Edit /etc/lvm/lvm.conf:

 auto_activation_volume_list = []

 3. both 1 and 2

Based on the comment in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf regarding global_filter I
concluded that not only lvmetad but also udev might perform action on
the devices and I wanted to prevent that.

I've now set the following settings in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf:

use_lvmetad = 0
auto_activation_volume_list = []
filter = ["a|/dev/sda5|", "r|.*|" ]

On other systems I have kept the default filter.

> Do you have any issue with the current settings, disabling auto activation and
> lvmetad?

Keeping those two disabled also seems to work. The ovirt LV's do show up
in 'lvs' output but are not activated.

I wanted to be absolutely sure the VM LV's were not touched, I added the
filter on some of our hosts.

Rik

Hello,

I am trying to deploy ovirt hosted-engine (over iscsi, i do not have NFS) from

I have:
-1 ovirt-node (ovirt-node-ng-installer-ovirt-4.0-2016062412)
-le rpm for the appliance
ovirt-engine-appliance-4.0-20160819.1.el7.centos.noarch

I have four network nics let's say nic1, nic2, nic3 and nic4. I use nic3 and
nic4 for ISCSi
I have the ovirt-node ip on nic1.

Any time I try to deploy ovirt hosted engine from ovirt-node cockpit interface
the result is the same, I receive a "time out message", and the ovirt-node
cockpit web interface does not work anymore.

The documentation does not talk about network card requirement I do not know
where to look.

should I use nic2 instead of nic1 when deploying hosted-engine?

Any advice?

Thanks

How can I fix it without reinstalling all my nodes?

After a few minutes Engine tells me there is a update for the node
I did the update
And now the Node is 4.0.1!

How can I get the right updates?

Fabian, how can this happen?

Btw, 4.0.3 iso has been published yesterday:

Hey Christian and Sandro,
thanks for reporting this.
I'm looking into it.

So - We did have some problems until Monday where the versions were mixde up
between ovirt-4.0, -pre and -snapshot.
I suppose that this caused the glithc you were seeing, Christian.
I've downloaded
http://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/ovirt-node-ng_ovirt-4.0_build-artifacts-el7-x86_64/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/exported-artifacts/ovirt-node-ng-installer-ovirt-4.0-2016083104.iso
and could not reproduce this issue.

Right, global_filter exist so you can override filter used from the command
line.

For example, hiding certain devices from vdsm. This is why we are using
filter in vdsm, leaving global_filter for the administrator.

Can you explain why do you need global_filter or filter for the
hypervisor disks?

Do you have any issue with the current settings, disabling auto activation and
lvmetad?

Fabian, how can this happen?

Btw, 4.0.3 iso has been published yesterday:

Re: [ovirt-users] Export the vm named

2016-08-31 Thread Fred Rolland
Hi,
You could use the python SDK for example :
https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine-sdk/blob/master/sdk/examples/list_vms.py

Or the REST API :
http://[YOUR_ENGINE]/ovirt-engine/api/vms/

Regards,
Fred

Re: [ovirt-users] Stable Next Generation Node Image for 4.0.2?

2016-08-31 Thread Grundmann, Christian
Hi,
I used the iso "ovirt-node-ng-installer-ovirt-4.0-2016082904.iso" from
http://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/ovirt-node-ng_ovirt-4.0_build-artifacts-el7-x86_64/
I attached the nodes in my Engine (4.0.3)
Engine shows, oVirt Node 4.0.2
After a few minutes Engine tells me there is a update for the node
I did the update
And now the Node is 4.0.1!

How can I get the right updates?

Thx Christian

This is the URL yuo want - It contains the builds based on the latest stable
release.

Tho I see that it wasn't updated lately.
Sandro, can we publish a new ISO for 4.0.3?

In the mean time you can take the iso from
http://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/ovirt-node-ng_ovirt-4.0_build-artifacts-el7-x86_64/

Re: [ovirt-users] How to import a qcow2 disk into ovirt

My ovirt engine version is already 4.0.0.6, which version should I upgrade for?

Another version of ovirt engine is 4.0.2.1, I can’t even find ‘qcow2’ option in
Image Type of Dilog ‘Upload Image’

lifuqiong, you need to update your oVirt version in order for this to succeed.
Please dnf/yum update ovirt-engine.

Hi lifuqiong,

There are several ways to import disks into oVirt

Does the disk contains any snapshots?

if not, the disk file can be copied to the storage domain and you can register
it using the Register button (see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1138139)

You can also take a look at the image-uploader, see
http://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/storage/image-upload/

What is the use case that you want to do? What is the origin of the disk (Was
it an oVirt disk?), as asked before, does the disk includes any snapshots.

Regards,

Maor
