[ovirt-users] RHSA-2016-1756 - live migration issues

2016-09-25 Thread Markus Stockhausen
Hi there.

several Redhat BZs are currently targeting a live migration error with current
qemu 2.3/2.6 versions. From my understanding BZ1359731 trie to fix a queue
overflow issue. With the patch in place qemu might abort randomly during
live migration. BZ1372763 provides info about additional patches to fix the
fix.

Can someone with deeper knowledge explain how seriously OVirt 4.0.4 with
qemu 2.3.0-31_2.21 is affected. Form my understanding it has the initial
(errorneous) but not the final fix. Also it does not get clear from the BZs how
often or how randomly the crash occurs.

Thanks in advance.

Markus

Hi,

there is a bug in the ovirt-cli, which makes creating quotaclusterlimit and
quotastoragelimit impossible.

The correct syntax would be:
add quotastoragelimit --parent-datacenter-name Default --parent-quota-name
testcli ...

You could use a python script with the SDK instead.
For example:

from ovirtsdk.api import API
from ovirtsdk.xml.params import Quota
from ovirtsdk.xml.params import QuotaStorageLimit

api = API('IP:PORT/ovirt-engine/api', 'admin@internal', 'pass')
dc = api.datacenters.list()[0]
quota = dc.quotas.add(Quota(name="quota1"))
quota.quotastoragelimits.add(QuotaStorageLimit(limit=100))

Hello,

I am trying to create user quotas from the command line via the shell.

I am using ovirt 3.6.7 and the command

add quota --parent-datacenter-name Default --name testcli

creates a quota but without quotaclusterlimit or quotastoragelimit

I can't find the correct syntax to create these.

Also how would I add a consumer and change the values when created?

Any examples or pointers to documentation would be appreciated.

Thanks,

In theory, using a macvtap instead of a bridge is supposed to provide a
better utilization.
It mainly depends if you reach your system limits and where.
We have not done such tests. If you will manage to do some, it will be
great if you'll share your results.

macvtap, like macvlan has some specific traffic flow definitions:
http://virt.kernelnewbies.org/MacVTap
I guess one of the limitations it presents, is the ability to control
traffic between vnics that connect to the same host nic.
In a bridge mode, traffic between such vnics will not be seen at the host
at all, while in a VEPA mode such traffic will not
be routed at all (unless special measures are taken).

[ovirt-users] How to add the clean-traffic network-filter to a guest

2016-09-25 Thread Troels Arvin
I would like to minimize the risk of virtual servers harming each other.
As part of this, I would like to prevent them from changing their IP
address to something different from what they are expected to have. In
other words, I would like to prevent IP address spoofing in the guests.
And I want to be able to do this without having to assign a different VLAN
to each guest.

Setup: RHEV 3.6 with RH7-based RHEV-H hypervisor hosts.

Using virsh -r dumpxml on a host, I can see that the guests
have the "vdsm-no-mac-spoofing" network filter active for the virtual
network interface.

But what if I want the "clean-traffic" filter to be active for the
guests, as well (or instead): Is there a way to accomplish that in the
RHEV-M/oVirt management interface? If so: Where's the option(s) to be
found in the management interface? Can it be done globally, i.e. as a
default when guests are started?

Hi Styve,
Pass-Through Host CPU is irrelevant unless you have a specific CPU flag you
need to utilize.
So I suggest you refrain from using it.
As for NUMA, it works well as long as it's not interleaving. Here as well
you  should use it only
if you understand how it should be used. Otherwise the safe option for you
is vCPU pinning.
Can you please check your logs to see who is creating these threads and

The right way is simply to edit the hosted engine VM memory settings from
the admin UI.
The file is not meant to be edited and may lead to issues in your setup.

Re: [ovirt-users] How can I to add RAM to Hosted Engine VM?

2016-09-25 Thread Roy Golan
You need to edit the vm in the webui and increase the memory there. The
next cold boot of the machine will load it with the new config. Do note
that the engine has an interval which triggers the creation of the new
vm.conf. The interval config item can be checked using

```
engine-config -g OvfUpdateIntervalInMinutes
```

the vm.conf under the host is now always and extraction of the
configuration saved under your hosted_storage domain
