Re: [ovirt-users] adding 3 machines as gluster nodes to ovirt 4.0.4

2016-10-25 Thread Sahina Bose
If you want these hosts to run only gluster service - create a cluster with
"Enable gluster service" checked and "Enable Virt Service" unchecked (i.e
disabled).
You should then add your 3 hosts to this cluster. Are the three hosts
subscribed to the ovirt repos? - During installation, the required packages
are pulled in from the repos. So install the ovirt-release- rpm on
the hosts.

After you do this, if the process still fails, please provide the
installation logs (host-deploy logs). Installation failure in ovirt-engine
will provide the path to the logs.

Use NFS on each host to export the local disk to your cluster. Ensure
this is remembered, as when you want to reboot a specific node, you
have to put the storage into maintenance as well.

I also like to pin each VM using the storage to the node the NFS
export lives on.

2016-10-25 Thread Anantha Raghava

Hello to all,

Can we make use of large hard disk drives on the Hosts for shared
storage domains?

In our setup we have iSCSI storage on which the primary storage domain
is created and is being used. On the hosts, we have 1 TB of storage that
is not used for anything and just going waste. Can we make use of them
in some manner?

[ovirt-users] adding 3 machines as gluster nodes to ovirt 4.0.4

2016-10-25 Thread Thing
Hi,

I have ovirt 4.0.4 running on a centos 7.2 machine.

I have 3 identical centos 7.2 machines I want to add as a gluster storage 3
way mirror array. The admin guide doesnt seem to show how to do this? I
have setup ssh keys for root access. I have setup a 1TB LUN on each ready
for "glusterising". I have tried to build and setup gluster before ahnd
and import the ready made setup but this locked up in "activating" and
after 36hours never completed (I assume they should move to "up"?)

Is there any documentation out there on how? I want these as pure gluster
storage only nodes no VMs to go on them. The VMs will go on 2 or 3 new
machines I will add later as a next stage.

I have tried to add them as hosts (not sure if this is the right method I
suspect not), but I get install failures in the engine.log

Re: [ovirt-users] low level Image copy failed

2016-10-25 Thread Jonas Israelsson

So we are copying raw volume to raw volume and this cannot succeed
if the device is smaller than the image.

We need the original volume metadata, and the vdsm logs showing
the copy image from the original volume to the export domain.

Fixing the virtual size in the .meta file manually will work, but you should
check that the size match the virtual size in engine database.

Nir

Here's the original volume metadata

EOF

VOLTYPE=LEAF

LEGALITY=LEGAL
MTIME=0
POOL_UUID=
SIZE=67108864
TYPE=PREALLOCATED
DESCRIPTION={"DiskAlias":"Elementary_Jenkins","DiskDescription":"Mount
me as /elementary/jenkins"}

EOF

And here's the LV

LV Path
/dev/58990f55-cd1d-4c2d-9ef2-2adc92881629/ddf8b402-514c-4a3c-9683-26810a7c41c0

LV Status  NOT available
LV Size35.25 GiB

And this is from within the vm

Disk /dev/vdc: 35.3 GiB, 37849399296 bytes, 73924608 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

So everyone besides that meta value seem to have understood the disk
magically somehow have grown beyond it's maximum size.
Same goes from the web-ui where the actual size says 35G while the size
stays at 32G.

That disk is created inside oVirt, and I can not explain how it could
have grown beyond 32G

Re: [ovirt-users] quick way to see total RAM and CPU count on VM listing

Hello oVirt community,

When listing virtual machines, is there a quick way to see how much
RAM/CPU each machine has?

In oVirt 4.0.4, I can see ram/cpu usage in a very nice way, but I can
not access easily the total RAM and number of CPUs.
The only way to find this information in GUI is to edit a vm and see
the system tab (and that's when the "edit" context menu is available,
which is not always)

Am I missing something?
This information is very usefull and sometimes critical (when
migrating VM to hosts which are already low on free RAM, specially
when balloning is involved)

I would like to see this information always on screen, like a
(un)checkable column... does it seem doable ?
Maybe it would be possible to show it while hoovering the memory/cpu
information with the mouse ?

You can vote for custom columns :)

both of them go into error state. why does the hosts go into error state ?

I see the following error in the vdsm logs on why the vm start
