Interesting use case. What if you use hosted engine, so it is in the
same network as the hosts?

I thought about persisting the host id on the host long time ago, but never
had a good use for this, and your case is a good use case.

Here is a patch persisting the host id in /var/lib/vdsm/storage/host_id.
You will need to modify it a bit for older versions.

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.0 spice console attempting to connect to HV private IP

2016-12-16 Thread Edward Clay
We just found the issue. In the cluster logical networks it has a
display network that was pointing to the management netowrk(private not
accessible network).

system > data center > cluster > logical networks tab

I changed the display network to the public network. Now I'm able to
access the console on new vms. That is after I restart them.

Thanks for taking some time to respond.

For the cluster that the VM is in check the logical networks and make sure
that the role display is set on the proper network interface.

Hi,
I wonder if you have anything special around resolving the hosts. Do
you use names in engine? Are both engine and hosts using same dns? How
does host's networking look like? What IP is the qemu procces bind to?

You can also try to use Display IP Override in Host dialog

Re: [ovirt-users] obtain spm id (host id) from engine using api

2016-12-16 Thread joost

HI Nir, this is exactly what i am doing.

connectStoragePool(storagePoolUuid,hostid,'',masterStorageDomainUuid,masterVersion)

What i want however is to ensure i can i.e. start vms even when the
engine is not available and then make sure they keep running when the
engine comes online.

If the hostid's mismatch all kinds of errors popup.
If the hostids i use when calling connectStoragePool match those in the
engine db my vms keep on running.

its an awkward setup , i know but it would be really good if i can find
out the host id the engine has in mind.
This way i can use this particular hostid when calling
connectStoragepool.

also.

Another reason for wanting this functionality is due to the fact the
engine might be unreachable by the hosts for a few hours due to the fact
my dc's sometimes run without network.

I can mount it using the vdsm api however i need to use a hostid.

at the moment, when i manually connect the storage pool (using vdsm
api) i
get end up with the following errors as soon as the connection
between

engine and vdsm is created.

jsonrpc.Executor/6::ERROR::2016-12-16

Not sure what you mean but storagepool not mounted.

To work with stoage, you need to
- connectStorageServer
- connectStoragePool

You can the command engine sends when activating a host, and
send the same commands from vdsClient or vdscli.py.

If your host is connected to the storage, and sanlock is connected
joined

the lockspace, you can get the host id using sanlock apis.

# sanlock client status
daemon 82322b57-58f9-4b9a-9661-8489ab66bc86.voodoo6.tl
p -1 helper
p -1 listener

p 4271

In this case I have 2 locksapces and both use host_id = 1

If you are not connected to storage on this host, you can use any
available

host_id.

You can see which hosts are connected using:

# sanlock client host_status -D
lockspace 16fe0625-be29-4a77-81c5-1bc0e5267eea
1 timestamp 380593
last_check=380614

1 timestamp 380592
last_check=380613

timestamp=380592
io_timeout=10
owner_name=82322b57-58f9-4b9a-9661-8489ab66bc86.voodoo6.tl

In this case I have one host (host_id 1), connected to 2 lockspaces
(each storage domain have one lockspace using the storage domain
uuid)

If you want to connect this host to engine, you should use the host
id

from engine database.

following this its a cluster of errors, gluster restarts and
complains about

quorum etc etc

if i'd redo the commands after reboot (still no connection between
vdsm api
api and engine and use host id 2 on this particular host my problems
are

resolved.

also am i right in thinking the values in the db do not change as
long as

the hosts remain the same?

It would really help me immense to find out the host id before
conencting to

the storagepool and without needed to go into the db.

[ovirt-users] Modifying the main /ovirt-engine/ landing page -- add link to CA Cert?

2016-12-16 Thread Derek Atkins
Hi,

I'd like to make some modifications to the main /ovirt-engine/ landing
page that I (and my users) hit when then first connect to my server.
Specifically, I want to add another link under the "Downloads" section
to the ovirt CA certificate to make it much easier to download:

Ovirt
 CA Certificate

However I can't find the HTML for this page, and any links I've found
seem to refer back to 3.x locations and not anything for 4.0.5.

Where can I find the HTML for this landing page, or how can I get this
link added? I presume I'll have to modify the page every time I update
the engine, too.

Thanks,

[ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.0 spice console attempting to connect to HV private IP

2016-12-16 Thread Edward Clay
Hello,

I've recently upgraded from ovirt 3.6 to 4.0 and have run into an issue
that I'm not finding an explanation or solution to. Currently when I
create a new VM and start it up and attempt to connect to the console I
get the following error.

"Unable to connect to the graphic server Could not connect to 10.1.1.1:
Socket I/O timed out"

If I attempt to launch a console for a VM created before the upgrade it
opens successfully. If I save the console.vv file I can see that the HV
public IP address is in this file. If I do the same thing for the
failing vm and I see the HV private mgmnt network IP. I'm not finding
where I can change which IP is used for console access or a difference
in how the VMs created before the upgrade are configured compared to the
new VMs.

I should also note that I attempted to change the IP in the failing VMs
console.vv file and then use it with the remove-viewer spice client and
it fails to connect to the port.

Any guidance on how to identify what's wrong is greatly appreciated.

Was this host reinstalled?
You may need to remove host from engine and add it again. If that
doesn't work you may need to manually change the uuid value in the
database (gluster_server table)
Removing host did nothing, indeed I had to go to the gluster_server
table to remove any disconnected host uuid, but it was not enough. Then
I had then to remove the host and reinstall it as a new host.

Thank you, I've been spending a lot of time to solve this issue.

So host guadalupe1 can't never be up.

When doing gluster peer probe, they are connected as

I found this on guadalupe2 supervdsm.log

We can see guadalupe2 can see guadalupe1 but taskset still
executes peer probe to guadalupe1 with message "Host

How can I say to guadalupe2 stop trying to probe guadalupe1?

Not sure what you mean but storagepool not mounted.

To work with stoage, you need to
- connectStorageServer
- connectStoragePool

You can the command engine sends when activating a host, and
send the same commands from vdsClient or vdscli.py.

If your host is connected to the storage, and sanlock is connected joined
the lockspace, you can get the host id using sanlock apis.

# sanlock client status
daemon 82322b57-58f9-4b9a-9661-8489ab66bc86.voodoo6.tl
p -1 helper
p -1 listener
p 4271
p -1 status
s

s
eeb8e812-4e69-469a-a07a-272ea3a79105:1:/dev/eeb8e812-4e69-469a-a07a-272ea3a79105/ids:0
r
eeb8e812-4e69-469a-a07a-272ea3a79105:SDM:/dev/eeb8e812-4e69-469a-a07a-272ea3a79105/leases:1048576:7
p 4271

In this case I have 2 locksapces and both use host_id = 1

If you are not connected to storage on this host, you can use any available
host_id.

You can see which hosts are connected using:

# sanlock client host_status -D
lockspace 16fe0625-be29-4a77-81c5-1bc0e5267eea
1 timestamp 380593
last_check=380614
last_live=380614
last_req=0
owner_id=1
owner_generation=15
timestamp=380593
io_timeout=10
owner_name=82322b57-58f9-4b9a-9661-8489ab66bc86.voodoo6.tl
lockspace eeb8e812-4e69-469a-a07a-272ea3a79105
1 timestamp 380592
last_check=380613
last_live=380613
last_req=0
owner_id=1
owner_generation=5
timestamp=380592
io_timeout=10
owner_name=82322b57-58f9-4b9a-9661-8489ab66bc86.voodoo6.tl

In this case I have one host (host_id 1), connected to 2 lockspaces
(each storage domain have one lockspace using the storage domain uuid)

If you want to connect this host to engine, you should use the host id
from engine database.

Yesterday I just used scp to copy the ISO into the ISO domain storage
location, and the engine picked it up in its next hourly evaluation.

Yes thanks, I know it.
In 4.1 (but it seems to me also in 4.x) it was a matter of seconds after
scp, but I hoped there would be something smarter and directly usable by
the web admin GUI...

You don't have to do that. You need to make sure it's available. Check
your NFS server. SSH in and verify everything is copacetic. The SSH to
your host and again verify that everything is okay. Check the logs.
Clearly the NFS mount is failing; figure how why that is!

Re: [ovirt-users] obtain spm id (host id) from engine using api

2016-12-16 Thread joost

Hi Nir, thanks.

I am actually after cases where the storagepool is not mounted.And
engine can not reach vdsm.

I can mount it using the vdsm api however i need to use a hostid.
I cant find where to get the particular id from.

at the moment, when i manually connect the storage pool (using vdsm
api) i get end up with the following errors as soon as the connection
between engine and vdsm is created.

jsonrpc.Executor/6::ERROR::2016-12-16
16:01:57,131::dispatcher::77::Storage.Dispatcher::(wrapper) {'status':
{'message': "Cannot perform action while storage pool is connected:
('hostId=1, newHostId=2',)", 'code': 325}}

following this its a cluster of errors, gluster restarts and complains
about quorum etc etc

if i'd redo the commands after reboot (still no connection between vdsm
api api and engine and use host id 2 on this particular host my problems
are resolved.

also am i right in thinking the values in the db do not change as long
as the hosts remain the same?

It would really help me immense to find out the host id before
conencting to the storagepool and without needed to go into the db.

thanks.

Joost

I have been searching high and low to no avail. In understand the

without going into the db.

As i am continuously rebuilding dc's / storage pools and hosts i
cannot keep
track of when which host is installed hence the need to know the

It might be i am all wrong but the when i use the vds_spm_id as

connect the host to the storage pools using the api.

NFS Server?
Firewall?

This seems to imply that the ISO domain NFS filesystem cannot be

Re: [ovirt-users] gluster command failed

2016-12-16 Thread Sahina Bose
Failed to find host 'Host[guadalupe1,7a30c899-a317-479a-b07b-244bc2374485]'
in gluster peer list from
'Host[guadalupe1,7a30c899-a317-479a-b07b-244bc2374485]' on attempt 2
It looks the gluster uuid saved in the ovirt engine db does not match the
one returned from CLI

Was this host reinstalled?
You may need to remove host from engine and add it again. If that doesn't
work you may need to manually change the uuid value in the database
(gluster_server table)

[ovirt-users] obtain spm id (host id) from engine using api

2016-12-16 Thread joost

in ovirt engine the table.

vds_spm_id_map

holds the ids used in spm election.

engine_20150824095956=# select * from vds_spm_id_map ;
   storage_pool_id| vds_spm_id |
vds_id

--++--
 144fb47d-b38c-4bb7-867b-373d7ba9f0a9 |  1 |
313ed02c-8029-4fb3-ba1c-5b3c9902ddb1
 144fb47d-b38c-4bb7-867b-373d7ba9f0a9 |  2 |
7fdebf8a-1503-4b54-9681-0201ee330381

these particular id's seem to be added when a vds is added to the
engine or when the storage pool is first setup.

I would like to be able to obtain this nr (in my case its generally 1
or 2 as i have two hosts per dc / cluster) through an api or even better
from the hosts itself.

When testing I connect to the storage pools using the api and its
important the hostid used when making this api call is correct or bad
things happen.

I have been searching high and low to no avail. In understand the
engine is in charge here but i really would be helped if this values can
be obtained without going into the db.

As i am continuously rebuilding dc's / storage pools and hosts i cannot
keep track of when which host is installed hence the need to know the
spm_id as listed.

It might be i am all wrong but the when i use the vds_spm_id as listed
i can connect the host to the storage pools using the api.

thanks Joost

[ovirt-users] template issues

2016-12-16 Thread Stefan Wandl
Hi,

i have currently two issues with templates:

1) I cannot create VMs from Templates with Pre-Allocated Disks. I have a VM
with 2 Preallocated and one Thin Provisioned Disk.
Whenever i create a new template from this Machine all Disks are changed to
Thin Provisoned inside of the Template.
During the VM create in the resource tab i can only choose between Thin and
Clone, since the disks are all changed to Thin Provisioned it is impossible to
create Pre-Allocated Disks with the Template.

Can the behavior of the "Make Template" somehow be changed?

3) I use cloud-init with a couple of settings in the "Intital Run" for the
installation of the machines. Whenever i create a new VM from template inside
of the Admin GUI the "Use Cloud-Init/Sysprep" is enabled and prefilled. Thats
fine.
When i use the same template inside of the User GUI the "Use
Cloud-Init/Sysprep" is disabled and all the Cloud-Init settings are empty.

Should it work that way or is it a bug?

We can see guadalupe2 can see guadalupe1 but taskset still
executes peer probe to guadalupe1 with message "Host

How can I say to guadalupe2 stop trying to probe guadalupe1?

Hey Danny,

Before you sysprep the VM did you make sure to add the floppy drive, so that
Windows installs the driver? I ask because this is the step that I tripped me
up when first started building my Windows templates. In the run once box just
check the Attach Floppy. Make sure it shows up in the VM before sysprep.

Is it inherits the user I've used to login to oVirt engine?

Maybe print screen or if you are using REST API so which command you use.

Also can you please ensure you're windows machine is correctly joined in the AD.
You should also check the log and see if the parameters are indeed send in the
log,
also check the event log in the windows if user will at least try to login.
If not, then it's most probably a bug, so please open it here:

I am not sysprep/windows expert, but from what I know:

The default username/password to join the domain is here:

$ bin/engine-config -a | grep -i SysPrepDefault
SysPrepDefaultUser:  version: general
SysPrepDefaultPassword: Empty version: general

But you can override in the sysprep, there is 'Alternate credetntials' checkbox,
and then you can override it.

Also be very carefull what you specify in OU, it MUST be correct RDN,
so I would try first without it and then if it works with it.

But if you are sure you did everything right, then please open bug at
bugzilla.redhat.com.

Thank you,

will only show up after you attach the floppy drive.

  *   Configure Admin Password.

That's about it, when I deploy the VM, hostname & password I've inserted in
Cloud-Init/Sysprep are getting set but guest os is not joining the domain.

I wonder where do I set credentials allowing OS to be domain joined?
Is it inherits the user I've used to login to oVirt engine?

Thanks

Maybe print screen or if you are using REST API so which command you use.

Also can you please ensure you're windows machine is correctly joined in the AD.
You should also check the log and see if the parameters are indeed send in the
log,
also check the event log in the windows if user will at least try to login.
If not, then it's most probably a bug, so please open it here:

However it seems like vdsm 4.17.35 has all related fixes.

Is it safe to use non-released version of vdsm?

seems to be good

Is there a plan to release oVirt 3.6.8?

afaik no.
You can update your vdsm hosts with 4.0.x repo wich provides 4.18.x vdsm
branch without updating the engine.

[ovirt-users] gluster command failed

2016-12-16 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet

Hi,

I used to successfully run a replica 3 gluster volume, but since the
last 4.0.5 update, they can't connect each other with the message :
gluster [gluster peer status guadalupe1.v100.abes.fr] command failed on
server guadalupe2.v100.abes.fr.

So host guadalupe1 can't never be up.

When doing gluster peer probe, they are connected as expected. I
reinstalled vdsm and gluster, but it is still the same.

I found this on guadalupe2 supervdsm.log

MainProcess|jsonrpc.Executor/6::DEBUG::2016-12-16
11:53:21,429::supervdsmServer::99::SuperVdsm.ServerCallback::(wrapper)
return peerStatus with [{'status': 'CONNECTED', 'hostname':

{'status': 'CONNECTED', 'hostname': 'guadalupe3.v100.abes.fr', 'uuid':
'6af67cd3-7931-446d-aaa2-ffea51325adc'}, {'status': 'CONNECTED',
'hostname': 'guadalupe1.v100.abes.fr', 'uuid':
'8eb485cd-31c4-4c3a-a315-3dc6d3ddc0c9'}]
MainProcess|jsonrpc.Executor/7::DEBUG::2016-12-16
11:53:21,490::supervdsmServer::92::SuperVdsm.ServerCallback::(wrapper)
call peerProbe with () {}
MainProcess|jsonrpc.Executor/7::DEBUG::2016-12-16
11:53:21,491::commands::68::root::(execCmd) /usr/bin/taskset --cpu-list
0-63 /usr/sbin/gluster --mode=script peer probe guadalupe1.v100.abes.fr
--xml (cwd None)
MainProcess|jsonrpc.Executor/7::DEBUG::2016-12-16
11:53:21,570::commands::86::root::(execCmd) SUCCESS:  = '';  = 0
MainProcess|jsonrpc.Executor/7::DEBUG::2016-12-16
11:53:21,570::supervdsmServer::99::SuperVdsm.ServerCallback::(wrapper)
return peerProbe with True

We can see guadalupe2 can see guadalupe1 but taskset still executes peer
probe to guadalupe1 with message "Host guadalupe1.v100.abes.fr port
24007 already in peer list"

How can I say to guadalupe2 stop trying to probe guadalupe1?

You run yum update for everything together.

For the engine it is quite clear now and makes sense I guess. New CentOS
requires oVirt 4, so we should upgrade to it first.

I would do this way

yum clean all
modify your repo fies in /etc/yum.repos.d
- verify CentOS-CR is disabled
- at least in
CentOS-Base.repo
where you don't have "enabled=0" (so both where there is no enabled=.. line
and where enabled=1)

comment mirrorlist and uncomment baseurl

in baseurl line substitute the word
$releasever
with
7.2.1511

try a yum update and verify that no 7.3 packages come in.

The problem is that epel repo don't track minor versions, so that if you
have an update in epel that requires a 7.3 package you would get dependency
error.
or you can disable also epel in the mean time if this is the case

Gianluca
