Re: [ovirt-users] Add CentOS 7 host fails during setup validation with 'Cannot locate vdsm package, possible cause is incorrect channels.'

2017-07-27 Thread Bill James

might want to double check what yum repos you have configured.
"yum search vdsm" or "yum list vdsm" should return something.
vdsm is not part of standard centos7 repo.

you can add it with something like

|# yum install
||http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release41.rpm|

that doesn't work either on good host or bad.
Maybe that is just a distraction.

Any idea why ovirt won't let me add the host?

[ovirt-users] sanlock ids file broken after server crash

2017-07-27 Thread Johan Bernhardsson
Hello,

The ids file for sanlock is broken on one setup. The first host id in
the file is wrong.

From the logfile i have:

verify_leader 1 wrong space name 0924ff77-ef51-435b-b90d-50bfbf2eke7
0924ff77-ef51-435b-b90d-50bfbf2e8de7 /rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/

Note the broken char in the space name.

This also apears. And it seams as the hostid too is broken in the ids
file:

leader4 sn 0924ff77-ef51-435b-b90d-50bfbf2eke7 rn 7afa5-3a91-415b-
a04c-221d3e060163.vbgkvm01.a ts 4351980 cs eefa4dd7

Note the broken chars there as well.

If i check the ids file with less or strings the first row where my
vbgkvm01 host are. That has broken chars.

Can this be repaired in some way without taking down all the virtual
machines on that storage?

This error is followed by other errors:

and finally:

Hi Yaniv,
as the user asked for a GUI too, I think that using Ansible for oVirt
backup could be improved by an available GUI.
I have just seen that there is a sort of "survey" to see what is the
feeling/interest in having an opensource alternative for commercial Red Hat
Tower here:

https://www.ansible.com/open-tower

I just joined and who is interested could do the same.
Afaik there is currently only the limited feature Semaphore at the moment
(never tested by me, while I have some experience in using commercial
Tower):

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt VM backups

2017-07-27 Thread FERNANDO FREDIANI
One thing that I cannot conceive when doing oVirt backups is the need to
clone the VM in order to copy it. Why, as in VMware, isn't possible to
just Snapshot and copy the read-only disk ?

See https://github.com/wefixit-AT/oVirtBackup as an option.

Now that I think of this, it's probably just as easy to write as an Ansible
role and add it to https://github.com/machacekondra/ovirt-ansible-roles

If you are using Gluster, I believe
http://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/gluster/gluster-dr/
is also relevant.

Hi,

Yes, the python script is using this API.
I was thinking to have in the GUI for VM backups sth similar as the gluster
volume snapshot schedules.

Hi Abi,

Don't you want to use the backup API feature for that:

[ovirt-users] oVirt VM backups

2017-07-27 Thread Abi Askushi
Hi All,

For VM backups I am using some python script to automate the snapshot ->
clone -> export -> delete steps (although with some issues when trying to
backups a Windows 10 VM)

I was wondering if there is there any plan to integrate VM backups in the
GUI or what other recommended ways exist out there.

Thanx,
Abi

You have to put there complete answer file. The XML templates on engine
are not used in this case.

Although, I'm not sure if you can set IP address through the answer file.

Any idea about what might be happening?

Looks like the oVirt engine is rejecting the request to add the disk
because some of the related entities doesn't exist. This is the relevant
message in the engine log:

  2017-07-25 08:28:03,063Z ERROR

Would be nice if you can check the /var/log/httpd/ssl_access_log in the
oVirt engine machine. There should be a line there with the 404 HTTP
status, something like this:

  POST /ovirt-engine/api/vms//disks 404

What is the exact content of that line? Is the VM id the one that
appears in the above message.

Also, can you check what are the identifiers of the relevant data center
and storage domains?

There should also be additional details in the
/var/log/ovirt-engine/server.log file. Please check it.

Hi,
no, not really, it’s just a UI-side default suggestion.
In API you supply it yourself in the request, any value you would want. It just
limits the max hotpluggable amount of memory

Re: [ovirt-users] Feature: Maximum memory size | BUG

2017-07-27 Thread Ladislav Humenik

Hello, thank you for fast response.

The point of changing the max_mem_size is little tricky, as we have
environments with together ~13k VMs running on top of ovirt, no kidding
:) and currently doing upgrades from 3.6 > 4.1. So we can easy set those
values to the needed ones for every VM, thats not a big deal.

However, I was just hoping it is editable without changing/modifying our
current API calls, for any newly created VM (as this is the reason for
asking for help), somewhere in engine-config or in DB.

I'll just opened an RFE https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1475382

if the issue is with GUI then setting the max memory in the template
would be inherited to all VMs from that template, you can even change
that in “Blank” I think, Jakube?
That’s for the default case, you can change that any way you like for
the concrete VM you’re creating.
if the issue is with API you can simply provide any number for the max
mem in all the requests

the VM[64|32]BitMaxMemorySizeInMB values are for the total maximum the
particular qemu we ship supports, it’s not anything you should need to
change.

Thanks,
michal

Hello

I've attached logs from:

- hammer cli (debug) with the command line I've used

- foreman logs
