Re: [ovirt-users] Re 2: q: lldpad.service needed for oVirt node (bug # 1401409) ?

2018-01-22 Thread Dominik Holler
Thanks for the feedback!
To my eyes the problem looks like not already covered by bug #1401409,
please open a new bug.
Until this new bug is fixed, you can disable the usage of LLDP for each
affected interfaces on the affected host by:

/usr/sbin/lldptool set-lldp -i $iface adminStatus=disabled

Re: [ovirt-users] Fail to add a second network

2018-01-22 Thread Kasturi Narra
Hi Carl,

Below are the steps to configure back end network which is glusternw.

1) create a new network called 'glusternw'
2) Now go to clusters tab and select Logical networks tab.
3) You should see the newly created network there.
4) select the network and click on 'Manage Networks'
5) In Manage networks window for the newly created network select both
'Migration' & glusternw and click ok.
6) Now go to the hosts tab click on one host and select 'Network
Interfaces' tab.
7) select the interface to which you would like to assign the backend
network, drag and drop glusternw to that interface and click ok
8) You will see that network is now out of sync.
9) Please click refresh capabilities which will bring the network online.

Hope this helps !!

Thanks
kasturi

Re: [ovirt-users] Windows Safely Remove Hardware

2018-01-22 Thread Стаценко Константин Юрьевич
Anyone ?
I don't believe that this is a normal behavior when users can eject scsi
controller or nic from virtual machine and make it unusable.
The device capabilities is 6 by default in windows registry and to disable
device ejects we need to set it to the value of 2.
But this value reverts back to 6 after VM restart.
Maybe it is possible to make this value of 2 by default, so the device cannot
be ejected ?

Hello!
What is the best way to remove options like eject virtual machine
disks/controllers or nics from "Safely Remove Hardware" in Windows OS ?
Currently running oVirt 4.1.8.
Thanks.

Okay, when I do a snapshot, and then mount the snapshot to a

Greetings,

I ran into this today as well.
Scientific Linux 7, all updated. Firewall + SELinux enabled, but
engine-setup configured all of that so the ports are open.

Nothing wrong with the certs that I can tell. Browser trusts them. I'm
on the same network as the servers so it isn't firewall/network issues.

What I see when I run 'systemctl status ovirt-websocket-proxy' it says
it is proxying to *:6100. But I don't get anything more than "loading".

Any thoughts on to where I should look next?

Thanks!

2018-01-22 Thread Gabriel Stein
Hi again!

Well, I discovered something new importing using the upload_disk.py
from sdk4 "created" thousands of shards on my glusterfs volume. Is there a
way to remove this files? What will happen if I delete all files from
.shard/*? Will break my volume?

Thanks, if needed I will ask directly on glusterfs mailing-list.

Best Regards Gabriel

Hi Paul, i did the same with the same release.

The trick was to set the tagging also of the default vlan on the switch during
the change from untagged to tagged.

In example, if you have to move your ovirtmgmt to vlan 10, you can set your
port for serving the network both native and tagged so while changing the
ovirtmgmt setup you will not lose the connectivity.

I can start three nested VMs in a single GCE instance and have them
communicating with each others but this is going to add another
virtualization level on my lab.

What I'm trying to do is to launch three different GCE instances with
Centos 7.4 and install on each of them the hyperconverged nodes. GCE
doesn't allow to enable mac-spoofing on instance's nics so I'm unable to
communicate with the engine from outside the host where it's installed.
To make a nested VMs to be accessible from outside the host, GCE suggest to
use a bridge network with iptables forwarding rules (
https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/instances/enable-nested-virtualization-vm-instances#configuring_a_nested_vm_to_be_accessible_from_outside_the_host_vm
) but this is not going to work with high-availability.

So I'm trying to do something impossible.

@Sandro : this is a test environment. I'm learning to use oVirt in my
off-work time so I'm trying to see if I can move my learning platform from
a dedicated server to a cloud service.

Thank you both

Yes, the service is required to provide LLDP information and is a
dependency of the vdsm-network package.

‹ I understand why the disk is seen after it was detached (stale device),
not why it comes back after rescan, which seems to suggest it is not
detached properly.

If I pass an API call to reboot, the VM reboots and the stale disks are
still connected, however if I pass an API call to shutdown, the stale disks
are removed. Is there something else that can be passed to the reboot API
call to have it disconnect whatever the shutdown does? If not, is there a
way to defer an API call as my backup VM is what is calling the API, it cant
call to start itself if it is off due to a shutdown call?

I dont see any errors in the logs while tailing with:
tail /var/log/ovirt-*/* -f

‹ Unrelated note - do NOT use /dev/sdX to enumerate them. Especially on SCSI
bus, probing is done in parallel and they may have a different name next
time. Use /dev/disk/by-id paths.

Each time the backup is done, it only uses the device /dev/xxY to mount the
disk image. The actual backup is being catalogued using the uuid and vmname.

We ship postgres 9.5 through the Software Collection. Its missing from your
path by default, so in order to run psql you need to:

su - postgres
scl enable rh-postgresql95 -- psql engine engine

Hi, I'd check what the browser is doing using its development console.
For example, the browser may not trust some certificate and fail to
establish connections - then you may need to install the CA certificate
into your browser. It's available for download from your oVirt
installation's welcome page that has the links to the Admin and Web portals.

What are you referring to as the first and second part?

I understand why the disk is seen after it was detached (stale device), not
why it comes back after rescan, which seems to suggest it is not detached
properly.

Versions for oVirt are all the most recent. This is a fresh install of the
Hosted Engine. I will just script the backup to cycle through sdb, sdc,
sdd, …. S, just seems odd that once a disk is detached and a snapshot
deleted, that the Backup_appliance-VM can still access the drive/snapshot?

Unrelated note - do NOT use /dev/sdX to enumerate them. Especially on SCSI
bus, probing is done in parallel and they may have a different name next
time. Use /dev/disk/by-id paths.

A second issue is that the above wont work when I have the Vms running on

I will continue to dig through this issue and will post logs if stuck. I
just wanted to know if there was anything obvious that I should be doing
differently with iSCSI vs NFS with mounting disks/snapshots.

Nope.

Re: [ovirt-users] New post on oVirt blog: Build oVirt Reports Using Grafana

2018-01-22 Thread Andrei V
Hi !

Thanks a lot for excellent addition !

I’ve got a problem with connecting Grafana to oVirt 4.2
Followed this instruction and created read-only user usrmonovirt
#
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/data-warehouse/Allowing_Read_Only_Access_to_the_History_Database/

However, from Grafana login is is always failed:
pq: Ident authentication failed for user “usrmonovirt"
host = localhost:5432, database = ovirt_engine_history, SSL = disable

Reset password with another or even NULL don’t help, still can’t connect.
psql -U postgres -c "ALTER ROLE usrmonovirt WITH PASSWORD ‘mypassword';" -d
ovirt_engine_history
psql -U postgres -c "ALTER ROLE usrmonovirt WITH PASSWORD NULL;” -d
ovirt_engine_history

What went wrong? I can’t understand.

PS. Looks like oVirt engine spawns PostgreSQL with its own data dir, standard
restart via systemcll returns an error (data dir is empty). Yet "ps -aux | grep
postgres" shows process is running.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion(s).

There is a bugzilla bug, but it's confusing, I'm already using the
version 4.2 and the error persists.

Bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1514887(no, I'm not
restaring the daemon, the it seems something similar)

A thread on version 4.05:

http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2016-November/077706.html

I need some help...

Hi Gabriel,

i posted to this list with a similar issue on 2017-09-12. you can upload
disks via CLI, an example script "upload_disk.py" is part of the package
python-ovirt-engine-sdk4. i had some trouble using the script, but it
was mainly my fault. as far as i can remember it worked in the end...

good luck

[ovirt-users] noVNC console is not work

2018-01-22 Thread Pym
Hi:

I'm installing ovirt-4.2 through the source code, and now I want to see the
virtual machine through the web.

I shall be carried out in accordance with the
https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/virt/novnc-console/#using-novnc
 operation.

The specific configuration is shown in the figure

When I click on the Console function of the virtual machine, the new page will
always display Loading.

The url for the new page
is:https://10.100.219.37:8443/ovirt-engine/services/novnc-main.jsp?host=tchyp.ecr.com=6100=vm-3%20-%20noVNC.

Excuse me, is there any other configuration that needs to be changed?

Thank you.

[ovirt-users] Q: Core Reservation on Hyperthreaded CPU

2018-01-22 Thread Andrei V
Hi,

I’m currently running node on HP ProLiant with 2 x Xeon with 4 core each.
Because of hyperthreading each physical core is being seen as 2.
How KVM/oVirt reserves cores if for example I allocate 4 CPU cores for VM ?
Does it allocates 4 real CPU cores, or 2 cores with 2 threads each ?

Each VM consumes very low CPU resources.
What happens if # of used cores consumed by VMs will exceed real count of
physical CPU cores ?

Thanks.

[ovirt-users] Found some bugs with NFS.

2018-01-22 Thread Sergey Kulikov
This is test environment, running Centos 7.4, oVirt 4.2.0, kernel
3.10.0-693.11.6.el7.x86_64 (3.10.0-693.11.1 and 3.10.0-693 have same bugs)

1. Can't force NFS to 4.0.
Some time ago, I've set my NFS version for all storage domains to V4, because
there was a bug with Netapp data ontap 8.x
and RHEL, using NFS 4.1(NFS mount started to hang after a while, STATEID
problems) v4 on centos 7.2 and 7.3 was mounting NFS as 4.0,
so there were no problems related to NFS, after some time Centos 7.4 was
released, and I've noticed that mount points started to hang again,
NFS was mounted with vers=4.1, and it's not possible to change to 4.0, both
options "V4" and "V4.1" mounts as 4.1. Looks like V4 option is
system default version for 4.X, and as I know it was changed in Centos 7.4 from
4.0 to 4.1, maybe 4.0 option should be added
to force 4.0 version? because adding vers=/nfsvers= in "Additional mount
options" is denied by ovirt.
I know, I can turn it off on netapp side, but there may be situations where
storage is out of control. And 4.0 version can't be
set on ovirt side.

2. This bug isn't directly related to ovirt, but affects it.
Don't really shure that this is right place to report.
As I've said before there were bug with NFS 4.1, Netapp data ontap 8 and RHEL
7.x, but it was fixed in otap 9.x,
Now we have 9.x ONTAP on Netapp and it brought new bugs with RHEL 7.4 :D
After updating to centos 7.4 nfs domains in ovirt started to hang\lock again,
This happens randomly, on random hosts, after few
days of uptime, entire datacenter goes offline, hosts down, storage domains
down, some vms in UP and some in unknown state, but
actually VMs are working, HostedEngine also working, but I can't control the
environment.
There are many hanging ioprocess(>1300) and vdsm processes(>1300) on some
hosts, also there are some dd commands, that are checking
storage hanging:
├─vdsmd─┬─2*[dd]
│ ├─1304*[ioprocess───{ioprocess}]
│ ├─12*[ioprocess───4*[{ioprocess}]]

 of=/dev/null bs=4096 count=1 iflag=direct
vdsm 40707 0.0 0.0 4360 348 ?D< 00:44 0:00 /usr/bin/dd

 of=/dev/null bs=4096 count=1 iflag=direct

vdsm is hanging at 100% cpu load
If I'll try to ls this files ls will hang.

I've made some dump of traffic, so looks like problem with STATID, I've found 2
issues on RedHat web site, but they aren't
publically available, so i can't read the solution:
https://access.redhat.com/solutions/3214331 (in my case I have STATEID test)
https://access.redhat.com/solutions/3164451 (in my case there is no manager
thread)
But it looks' that I've another issue with stateid,

There is a bugzilla bug, but it's confusing, I'm already using the version
4.2 and the error persists.

Bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1514887(no, I'm not
restaring the daemon, the it seems something similar)

A thread on version 4.05:

http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2016-November/077706.html

I need some help...

Thanks in Advance!

Hi,

is there a reason why the viodiskcache custom property isn't honored
when using VirtIO-SCSI?

On a Cinder (Ceph) disk "viodiskcache=writeback" is ignored with
VirtIO-SCSI and honored when using VirtIO.

On an iSCSI disk "viodiskcache=writeback" is ignored with
VirtIO-SCSI and the VM can't be started when using VirtIO with
"unsupported configuration: native I/O needs either no disk cache or
directsync cache mode, QEMU will fallback to aio=threads"

We actually want to use "viodiskcache=writeback" with Cinder (Ceph)
disks.

That's because on block storage we use native io and not threads. I
assume the hook needs to change to use native io in this case.

Y.

Thank you, but i still don't quite get what's missing.

We want to use the combination of Cinder (Ceph) + cache=writeback +
VirtIO-SCSI. Would this be possible if aio=native was used (which is not
configurable)? With iSCSI storage you still get cache=none when using
VirtIO-SCSI and "viodiskcache=writeback" (and aio=native). Should i file
a bug report for the Cinder disk situation?

Thanks again

Hi Gunder,

from my experience (we have several C7000 Chassis with Virtual
Connect), blades sees the FCoE connection as a standard FC connection.
We use 650FLB - HP FlexFabric 20Gb 2-port 650FLB Adapter, and we add
all the storage using "Fibre Channel" storage type.

I don't quite understand. Can you start multiple nested VM in a single
GCE node, each communicating with its own mac? I believe that you'd
need mac-spoofing for that simple task, too.

Self-hosted engine has to be highly-available. It has to run equally
well on all hosted-engine hosts, thus I believe it needs all hosts to
allow mac-spoofing.

Re: [ovirt-users] hosted-engine unknow stale-data

2018-01-22 Thread Martin Sivak
Hi Artem,

make sure the IDs are different, change them manually if you must!

That is all you need to do to get the agent up I think. The symlink
issue is probably related to another change we did (it happens when a
new hosted engine node is deployed by the engine) and a simple broker
restart should fix it too.

Best regards

Yes. But normally a DB VM is also important form a sla point of view.
So in general one has to find a tradeoff between pure performance and
service level

No. Oracle requires you to license the physical host and all the
hypervisors' farm.
So in my case using SE2 and having for example 3 x 2-cpu hosts composing
the oVirt cluster, you have to license for all 6 sockets.
Done that, you can run how many (non RAC) RDBMS instances inside VMs of
this oVirt cluster.
Unfortunately If you want to run RAC RDBMS your are also enforced to run
single socket hypervisors to respect Oracle licensing for RAC on SE2.
So in my case I didn't use this option.

I saw enabling IO threads was the thing making the greatest difference
inside the VM from an I/O point of view.
I think I cannot disclosure detailed Oracle performance, but in one of my
tests with HP BL460c G9 with E5-2680v4 cpu, I compared Oracle Linux 7.3
with Oracle 12.1 SE2 on both the bare physical server and inside an Oracle
Linux 7.3 VM configued inside it, using HammerDB and the performance was
quite similar in the one VM running on host configuration.
The physical has 2 x 14 core + HT cpus and I configured the VM up to 2:12:2
and so 48 threads in total and 4 IO threads because I have 4 disks
configured at VM level.
I think it doesn't make sense to configure more than 1 IO thread for disk
at VM level, correct?
Under the curtains there is an HP 3PAR with a mix of SSD and SAS disks and
I was able to reach 800-900 MB/s in reads under the VM.

Each replica subvolume is defined to have 1 arbiter out of the 3 bricks.
The arbiter bricks are taken from the end of each replica subvolume. Since
the arbiter brick does not store file data, its disk usage will be
considerably less than the other bricks of the replica. The sizing of the
brick will depend on how many files you plan to store in the volume. A good
estimate will be 4kb times the number of files in the replica. In the other
two nodes if the size of the brick is 1TB, then total capacity will be 1 TB
.

you could replicate the entire volume to another single volume but please
make sure that size of the volume is more so that no data is lost.
