This is the error that fails you. I have a pending patch to make this more
visible in the log [1], need to find time to verify it...

Does this happen on a clean machine? Perhaps 'engine-cleanup' after such
a failed restore is not enough. Please try reinstalling the OS and trying
again.

If it's not an important machine (test/dev/etc), this will probably be
enough, as a faster replacement for a full OS reinstall:

engine-cleanup
systemctl stop postgresql
systemctl stop rh-postgresql95-postgresql
rm -rf /var/lib/pgsql/data /var/opt/rh/rh-postgresql95/lib/pgsql/data

Then try restore again.

Adding also Eli. Eli - perhaps we need to patch engine-backup to ignore
also this error? I think the minimal flow to reproduce is:

engine-setup
engine-backup --mode=backup --file=f1 --log=l1
engine-cleanup
engine-backup --mode=restore --file=f1 --provision-db
--provision-dwh-db --log=l2

Didn't try this myself.

Dear Martin,
Thank you so much!
It works!
I found that IPMI is disable by default setting.
When i enable it and run fence_ilo4 command, it showed that status is ON.

[root@XX~]# fence_ilo4 -a X -l -p X -v -o status
Executing: /usr/bin/ipmitool -I lanplus -H X -p 623 -U X -P X
-L ADMINISTRATOR chassis power status

0 Chassis Power is on

Status: ON
[root@XX~]#

Thank you so much again!

You could look at https://github.com/openbacchus/bacchus to automate ovirt
vm backups.

You'd still need to do 'something' to move the vm images from the export
domain to your tape device though.

[ovirt-users] Cannot activate storage domain

2018-02-28 Thread Bruckner, Simone
Hi all,

we run a small oVirt installation that we also use for automated testing
(automatically creating, dropping vms).

We got an inactive FC storage domain that we cannot activate any more. We see
several events at that time starting with:

VM perftest-c17 is down with error. Exit message: Unable to get volume size for
domain b83c159c-4ad6-4613-ba16-bab95ccd10c0 volume
686376c1-4be1-44c3-89a3-0a8addc8fdf2.

Trying to activate the strorage domain results in the following alert event for
each host:

VDSM command GetVGInfoVDS failed: Volume Group does not exist:
(u'vg_uuid: 813oRe-64r8-mloU-k9G2-LFsS-dXSG-hpN4kf',)

And after those messages from all hosts we get:

VDSM command ActivateStorageDomainVDS failed: Storage domain does not exist:
(u'b83c159c-4ad6-4613-ba16-bab95ccd10c0',)

Failed to activate Storage Domain VMHOST_LUN_205 (Data Center Production) by

Invalid status on Data Center Production. Setting status to Non Responsive.

Storage Pool Manager runs on Host vmhost003.fabagl.fabasoft.com (Address:
vmhost003.fabagl.fabasoft.com), Data Center Production.

Checking the hosts with multipath -ll we see the LUN without errors.

We run oVirt 4.2.1 on CentOS 7.4. Hosts are CentOS 7.4 hosts with oVirt
installed using oVirt engine.

Hosts are connected to about 30 FC LUNs (8 TB each) on two all-flash storage
arrays.

Thank you,

Simone Bruckner

A paused VM can't be migrated, since there are no guarantees about the
storage state. As the VMs were paused under erroneous (rather than
controlled such as putting the host into maintenance) situation,
migration policy can't help here.

But highly available VMs can be restarted on another host automatically.
Do you have VM lease enabled for the highly available VM in High
Availability settings? With a lease, Engine should be able to restart
the VM elsewhere after a while, without it Engine can't do that since
there is danger of resuming the VM on the original host, resulting in
multiple instances of the same VM running at the same time.

VMs without high availability must be restarted manually (unless storage
domain becomes available again).

HTH,
Milan

Can you please provide the output of the following query in your database:

select type, device, address, alias, is_managed, is_plugged from vm_device
where vm_id in (select vm_guid from vm_static where vm_name='');

where is the name of one of the VMs you can't start because of

[ovirt-users] Installing on ubuntu

2018-02-28 Thread Anastasiya Ruzhanskaya
Hello!
I am new to oVirt. I want to install it on Ubuntu ( oVirt-Engine) , as I do
this for testing for my diploma at university and don't have too much space
on my computer for hundreds of VMs.
What is the status now? I looked on what is written on the site, is it
still true and it can be done through all the hacks listed there?
Thank you.

[ovirt-users] Backup & Restore

2018-02-28 Thread suporte
Hi,

I'm testing backup & restore on Ovirt 4.2.
I follow this doc
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Backups_and_Migration/
Try to restore to a fresh installation but always get this error message:

restore-permissions
Preparing to restore:
- Unpacking file 'back_file'
Restoring:
- Files
Provisioning PostgreSQL users/databases:
- user 'engine', database 'engine'
Restoring:
FATAL: Can't connect to database 'ovirt_engine_history'. Please see
'/usr/bin/engine-backup --help'.

On the live engine I run # engine-backup --scope=all --mode=backup
--file=file_name --log=log_file_name

And try to restore on a fresh installation:
# engine-backup --mode=restore --file=file_name --log=log_file_name
--provision-db --restore-permissions

Any Idea?

Thanks

Re: [ovirt-users] Network and VLANs

2018-02-28 Thread Gabriel Stein
Hi!

Well, the problem starts here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1528906

This is a solved marked, but it isn't.

This is what still happens on some servers from us:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1540463

I have four servers, I updated all hosts on the newest state from
ovirt(4.2.1) and just for two servers worked. For other two doesn't works.
The packages seems to be the same versions on all servers, for the
"working" and "not working".

The question about oVirt Networking was my curiosity, if I can solve this
problem using another way/workaround(or even a officiall way from ovirt).

If you need more info, I give all the info that you need or I can even
create a bugzilla ticket for that.

Thanks!

All the best,

Gabriel

Hello,

I don't see how is the bug related to your problem, could you elaborate

Is there any other problem with Setup Networks other than the bug?

oVirt does not support Virtual Switch neither Network Stack, there is an
experimental support of Open vSwitch and OVN though.

[ovirt-users] Failure to upgrade Cluster Compatibility Version

2018-02-28 Thread Jonathan Mathews
I have been upgrading my oVirt platform from 3.4 and I am trying to get to
4.2.

I have managed to get the platform to 3.6, but need to upgrade the Cluster
Compatibility Version.

When I select 3.6 in the Cluster Compatibility Version and select OK, it
highlights Compatibility Version in red, (image attached).

There are no errors been displayed on screen, or in
the /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log file.

Please let me know if I am missing something and how I can resolve this?

Thanks

[ovirt-users] VM paused rather than migrate to another hosts

2018-02-28 Thread Terry hey
Dear all,
I am testing iSCSI bonding failover test on oVirt, but i observed that VM
were paused and did not migrate to another host. Please see the details as
follows.

I have two hypervisors. Since they are running iLO 5 and oVirt 4.2 cannot
support iLO 5, thus i cannot setup power management.

For the cluster setting, I set "Migrate Virtual Machines" under the
Migration Policy.

For each hypervisor, I bonded two iSCSI interface as bond 1.

I created one Virtual machine and enable high availability on it.
Also, I created one Virtual machine and did not enable high availability on
it.

When i shutdown one of the iSCSI interface, nothing happened.
But when i shutdown both iSCSI interface, VM in that hosts were paused and
did not migrate to another hosts. Is this behavior normal or i miss
something?

Thank you all of you.

But i can actually access iLO5 ( same account and password) through

Host host01 configuration was updated by admin@internal-authz.

 2. If not could you please try to install fence-agents-all package on

Ans: It just shows "Connection timed out".

So, does it means that it is not support iLo5 now or i configure

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt 4.1 - skylake - no avx512 support in virtual machines

2018-02-28 Thread Marco Lorenzo Crociani

Skylake-Client does _not_ have AVX512 (I tried now on a Kaby Lake Core
i7 laptop). Only Skylake-Server has it and it will be in RHEL 7.5.

Thanks,

Paolo

Ok, we'll stay with pass-through until RHEL 7.5.
Thanks,

Re: [ovirt-users] Power Management - Supermicro SuperBlade

I haven't seen this hardware, but generally there are 2 possibilities:

1. Withing your SuperBlade management you need to specify unique IP address
for IPMI interface of each host

2. If 1. is not possible, but you have other identification of a host, then
you can try to pass that value using '-n' option on command line or
'plug=XXX' in Options field of a Fence Agent in webadmin

This is completely different protocol (HTTP) using a browser, it's
independent of IPMI.

Are you sure that some firewall doesn't block access to the IPMI interface?
Are you executing the command from different host than the host which you
want access the IPMI interface of?

If above is not an issue, then please login to iLO5 management using a
browser and check if IPMI interface is enabled according to your iLO5
documentation

623 is the default IPMI port

 Hi Terry,

from the error message below I'd say that you are either not using
correct IP address of iLO5 interface or you haven't enabled remote access
 to your iLO5 interface.
According to [1] iLO5 should fully IPMI compatible. So are you sure
that you enabled the remote access to your iLO5 address in iLO5 management?
Please consult [1] how to enable everything and use a user with at
 least Operator privileges.

 Regards

 Martin
