[ovirt-users] how update the network name of a vmnic with API SDK python ?

2018-03-20 Thread Nicolas Vaye
Hi,

i want to change the network name of the existing nic for a VM with python SDK
API ?
Can i have some help please ?

the VM name is testnico
the nic name is nic1
the new network name is vlan_NEW

and here is the source file written by me (which doesn't work) :

#!/usr/bin/env python
# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-

import logging
import time

import ovirtsdk4 as sdk
import ovirtsdk4.types as types

logging.basicConfig(level=logging.DEBUG, filename='example.log')

# This example will connect to the server and start a virtual machine
# with cloud-init, in order to automatically configure the network and
# the password of the `root` user.

# Create the connection to the server:
connection = sdk.Connection(
url='https://ocenter.province-sud.prod/ovirt-engine/api',
username='admin@internal',
password='',
ca_file='CA_ocenter.pem',
debug=True,
log=logging.getLogger(),
)

# Find the virtual machine:
vms_service = connection.system_service().vms_service()
vm = vms_service.list(search = 'name=testnico')[0]

# Find the service that manages the virtual machine:
vm_service = vms_service.vm_service(vm.id)

# In order to specify the network that the new interface will be
# connected to we need to specify the identifier of the virtual network
# interface profile, so we need to find it:
profiles_service = connection.system_service().vnic_profiles_service()
profile_id = None
for profile in profiles_service.list():
print "profile "+profile.name+","+profile.id
if profile.name == 'vlan_NEW':
profile_id = profile.id
break

# Locate the service that manages the network interface cards of the
# virtual machine:
nics_service = vm_service.nics_service()

#print nics_service

# Find the nic1 of the VM
for nic in nics_service.list():
print "nic "+nic.name+","+nic.id+','+nic.vnic_profile.id
if nic.name == 'nic1':
nic_service = nics_service.nic_service(nic.id)
break

print "nic_service nic1 ==>"+str(nic_service)
#pprint(vars(nic_service.network_filter_parameters_service().parameter_service()))

#nic_service.vnic_profile.id=profile_id
#nic_service.update()

nic_service.update(
vnic_profile=types.VnicProfile(
id=profile_id,
)
)

# Close the connection to the server:
connection.close()

The result is :

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "start_vm_with_cloud_init.py", line 85, in
id=profile_id,
TypeError: update() got an unexpected keyword argument 'vnic_profile'

How can i do ?

Thanks.

Hi again all,

 "Unless i miss understood you here, do you use a different IP address when
switching to static or the same IP that you got from dhcp? if yes, then this is
another flow.."

To answer your question Michael , i'm trying to configure a different ip
outside of my dhcp pool. The dhcp ip is 10.0.0.245 from the range
10.0.0.245-10.0.0.250 and i want to configure the ip 10.0.0.9 as the hosts ip

Ales, i also tried to follow your advise and uncheck the "Verify connectivity
between Host and Engine" as proposed. Again the same results, it keeps
reverting to previous dhcp ip
I will extract the vdsm log and i'll get back to you, in the meanwhile this is
the error that i see after the assignment of the static ip in the log

One thing to note if you are changing the IP to different one that was assigned
by DHCP you should uncheck "Verify connectivity between Host and Engine". This
makes sure that the engine won't lost connectivity and in case of switching IP
it happens.

Can you please share the vdsm version and vdsm log with us?

Edy, any idea what can cause this?

Great step by step instructions but something strange is happening while trying
to change to static ip. I tried to do the change while the host was in
maintenance mode and in activate mode but again after some minutes the system
reverts to the ip that dhcp is serving!

What am i missing here? Do you have any ideas?

Hello Zois,

It pretty easy to do, via the webadmin UI , go to Hosts main tab > Choose host
> go to 'Network Interfaces' sub tab > Press the 'Setup Host Networks' button >
press the pencil icon on your management network > and choose Static IP >
press OK and OK to approve the operation.

- Note that in some cases, specially if this is a SPM host you will loose
connectivity to host for few seconds and host may go to non-responsive state,
on a non-SPM host usually this woks without any specific issues.

- If the spoken host is a SPM host, I recommend to set it first to maintenance
mode, do the switch and then activate. For non-SPM host this will work fine as
well when the host is UP.

Hello everyone

I've made a rookie mistake by installing ovirt 4.2 in centos 7 with dhcp
instead of a static ip configuration. Both engine and host are in the same
machine cause of limited resources and i was so happy that everything worked so
well that i kept configuring and installing vm's ,adding local and nfs storage
and setting up the backup!

As you understand i must change the configuration to static ip and i can't find
any guide describing the correct procedure. Is there an official guide to
change configuration without causing any trouble?

I've found this thread

Re: [ovirt-users] Fw: Network issues with oVirt 4.2 and cloud-init

2018-03-20 Thread Berger, Sandy
  * I have a base VM that was created with a normal kickstart.
  * I shut the VM down in preparation for a snapshot.
  * I snapshot it so I can put it back to its original state.
  * I start the VM and install
https://people.redhat.com/rmccabe/cloud-init/cloud-init-0.7.9-20.el7.x86_64.rpm
  * I shut the VM down in preparation for the template creation
  * I create a template checking the “seal the template” box
  * I modify the template and check “use cloud-init/sysprep”, set a generic
hostname that will be changed when creating the VM, specify a time zone,
specify root authentication and its password, expand networks and supply a DNS
server list, a search domain, check in-guest network interface name of eth0,
specify the IPV4 boot protocol as static, enter a dummy IP address and the
correct netmask and gateway, and set IPV6 boot protocol to none.
  * I create a VM from the template and supply a hostname under “Name” in the
general tab, and then in the Initial Run tab I enter an FQDN in the VM hostname
field, and then replace the dummy IP address with the correct one.
  * After the VM is created I click Run, not Run Once, and all boots up
correctly.
  * If I reboot the server with “shutdown -r” everything networking comes up
correctly on these boots.
  * If I shut down the server, and click Run in oVirt, not run once, the VM
comes up with a DHCP address and the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
file is missing all of the network configuration and instead is set up for DHCP.

Checking the version of cloud-init on the newly created VM shows the correct
version as listed above.

I have not used the REST API for any of this, it’s all been done with the
standard GUI interface.

Thanks,

Hi Sandy,

Can you elaborate some more about the steps you have taken?
Specifically, how\where do you apply cloud-init-0.7.9-20 rpm? Can you make sure
that rpm -q cloud-init after VM reboot is still this one?
How do you apply the static IP settings that do persist to the VM - via oVirt
web-admin\REST API\other?
When you restart the VM via oVirt GUI - do you 'Run' it or 'Run Once'?
Thanks,

We're using cloud-init to customize VMs built from a template. We're
using static IPV4 settings so we're specifying an IP address, subnet
mask, and gateway. There is apparently a bug in the current version of
cloud-init shipping as part of CentOS 7.4
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1492726) that fails to set
the gateway properly. In the description of the bug, it says it is
fixed in RHEL 7.5 but also says one can use
https://people.redhat.com/rmccabe/cloud-init/cloud-init-0.7.9-20.el7.x86_64.rpm
which is what we're doing.

When the new VM first boots, the 3 IPv4 settings are all set correctly.
Reboots of the VM maintain the settings properly. But, if the VM is
shut down and started again via the oVirt GUI, all of the IPV4 settings
on the eth0 virtual NIC are lost and
the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 shows that the NIC is now
set up for DHCP.

Are we doing something incorrectly?

Hello Sandy,

i had the same issue and the cause was cloud-init running again at
boot even if Run-Once hasn't been selected as boot option. The way i'm
using to solve the problem is to remove cloud-init after the first
run, since we don't need it anymore.

In case also disabling is enoug:

touch /etc/cloud/cloud-init.disabled

Hi Berger,
Have you sealed the template? if you didn't sealed the template on creation,
then your new VM has the same ifcfg-eth0 settings as your origin VM.
In order to avoid this, you need to check the 'Seal Template (Linux only)'
checkbox in the New Template dialog.

Hi Nicolas,

Can you please try navigating to "Administration -> Providers", select
"ovirt-image-repository" provider and click "Edit" button.
Make sure that "Requires Authentication" isn't checked, and click the "Test"
button - is it accessing the provider successfully?

[ovirt-users] Adding host to hosted-engine /w gluster cluster. (On ovirt Node 4.2.1.1)

2018-03-20 Thread Hanson Turner

Hi Guys,

I've a 3 machine pool running gluster with replica 3 and want to add two
more machines.

This would change to a replica 5...

In ovirt 4.0, I'd done everything manually. No problem there.

In ovirt 4.2, I'd used the wizard for the hosted-engine. It looks like
the fourth node has been added to the pool but will not go active. It
complains gluster isn't running (which I've not manually configured
/dev/sdb for gluster). Host install+deploy fails. Host can go into
maintenance w/o issue. (Meaning the host has been added to the cluster,
but isn't operational)

What do I need to do to get the node up and running proper with gluster
syncing properly? Manually restarting gluster, tells me there's no peers
and no volumes.

Do we have a wizard for this too? Or do I need to go find the setup
scripts and configure hosts 4 + 5 manually and run the deploy again?

Thanks,

Hanson

[ovirt-users] GPG Key of evilissimo repo for ovirt-guest-agent is expired

2018-03-20 Thread Florian Schmid
Hi,

it looks like for this repo, the GPG key is expired.
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/evilissimo:/ubuntu:/16.04/xUbuntu_16.04/

Does someone know, whom I should contact, that this key will be renewed?

Or does someone know another repo, where I can download the latest
ovirt-guest-agent for Ubuntu 16.04

OK, now I’ve got it. Thanks for so clear and short explanation. It should go
straight into the oVirt manual and QA.

One Data Center can have only one Export storage domain, right ?

So 1 (single) export domain used as some kind of shared exchange buffer (VM
“clipboard” in desktop metaphor) in whole oVirt setup, per 1 host engine.

Re: [ovirt-users] Hosted engine deployment error

2018-03-20 Thread spfma . tech
I tried to make a cleaner install : after cleanup, I recreated

   As you can see, it crashed again with the same access denied error on this

Of course, "root" and "vdsm" can create, touch and delete other files
flawlessly in this share.

It looks like some kind of immutable file, but is is not suppose to exist on
NFS, does it ?

OK, that works, yet it really not intuitive.

Extra button in the top bar, something like “more options…”, or extra menu item
in popup at top right corner would be really helpful.

OK, so you have old ovirt-engine setup packages with newer otopi.
Please try to update the setup packages and try again:

yum update ovirt\*setup\*
engine-setup

I can’t navigate to this point, in Storage -> Storage Domains there is a list
of domains as on your screenshot, which are double-clickable items.

3) In the export domain - navigate to 'VM Import’ tab

Double click on list item opens “Manage Domain” dialog.
Control-Click opens popup menu: “New Domain”, “Import Domain”, “Manage Domain”.

“Manage Domain” allows only edit of basic parameters.
Or I must add new domain by means of running “Import Domain”, and then go to
the points you have described ?

Running FireFox on Mac and Linux. Is it possible it doesn’t display something
correctly.
What browser you use ?

Re: [ovirt-users] Change ovirtmgmt ip from dhcp to static in a

2018-03-20 Thread Michael Burman
Then you need to remove the host from engine, change the IP manually on the
host, via ifcfg-file, restart network service and install the host again
via the new IP address.

For the geo-rep gone wonky - can you provide some more information to debug
this. The logs are at /var/log/glusterfs/geo-replication. Please provide
the logs from the master and slave.

[ovirt-users] Q: Copying VMs between Export domains of different data centres

2018-03-20 Thread Andrei Verovski
Hi,

I have 2 data centers (with 1 node each because 1 have local data domain)

Copied exported from DC #1, exports -> 1d7208ce-d3a1-4406-9638-fe7051562994 ->
images -> 12f48f07-7e93-4c66-b0e9-00efc1fec418, with 2 files inside
fc469474-94fd-416b-b921-58604f46411c - 171 GB (seems like disk image)
fc469474-94fd-416b-b921-58604f46411c.meta

to DC #2, export -> 36bc8d5d-30e9-4df5-94cd-c837483c5e41 -> images ->
12f48f07-7e93-4c66-b0e9-00efc1fec418, with these above listed files inside.
(screenshot attached)

However, in “Import Virtual machine(s)” dialog this VM is not visible even
after running “Load” command inside import dialog.
Looks like for whatever reason oVirt don’t refresh content of this directory.

How to instruct oVirt to refresh and index these files?

Or this method won’t work at all, and one have to import/export OVA images, or
use lengthy procedure described by Fred Roland here ?

This error was fixed in 4.2.1, by this patch:

https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/q/Id4e0e621624efff0ff0e8a9fd6f23f53f2aa54d2,n,z

The bug existed for some time, but was only exposed by this patch:

https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/86679/

which was included in otopi-1.7.7, which was released as part of 4.2.1.

So it seems like you somehow have 4.2 repos, updated otopi, but didn't
update engine setup packages.

It doesn't behave differently than removing a disk from Storage domains ->
Storage domain - > disks,

The entities do not belong to any data center so it must be inside the
storage domain view.

 What is the proper oVirt way to remove unused stuff from EXPORT domain ?
 Simply "rm -Rv xxx" and "rm -Rv xxx.meta"
 via SSH inside export -> 1d7208ce-d3a1-4406-9638-fe7051562994 ->
 images ?

You probably need to refresh the ISO list, assuming 4.2 go to Storage ->
Storage Domains -> , click on the name, and go to the images
detail tab. This should refresh the list of ISOs in the list and the ISO
should be listed, once that is done, it should show up in the drop down when
you change the CD.

Re: [ovirt-users] Q: Removing stuff from EXPORT domain

The export domain should contain entities for export: VMs, Template etc..

You can remove them from the domain via Storage -> Export Domain -> Import
Virtual Machine(s) / Templates -> select the unsed entetiy -> remove (upper
right side of the window).

A fix will come in the next build.

Everything should get wrote and read on the NFS export as vdsm:kvm (36:36);
can you please ensure that everything is fine with that?

in 4.2

Storage -> Disks - exported image is not visible here
Storage -> Storage Domains -> Manage Domains - nothing that allows to see
content of domain

I can see content of Export domain only in “Import Virtual Machine(s)” dialog,
but can’t alter it in any way.

What I’m missing here ?

Hi !

What is the proper oVirt way to remove unused stuff from EXPORT domain ?
Simply "rm -Rv xxx" and "rm -Rv xxx.meta"
via SSH inside export -> 1d7208ce-d3a1-4406-9638-fe7051562994 -> images ?

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Disk upload cancel/remove

2018-03-20 Thread Alex K
Hi All,

I was trying to upload a VM disk at data storage domain using a python
script.
I did cancel the upload twice and at the third time the upload was
successful, but I see two disks from the previous attempts with status
"transferring via API" (see attached). This status of for more then 8 hours
and I cannot remove them.

Is there any way to clean them from the disks inventory?

I am using ovirt 4.1.9.1-1.el7.centos with self hosted engine on 3 nodes.

Thanx,
Alex

2018-03-20 Thread Ales Musil
One thing to note if you are changing the IP to different one that was
assigned by DHCP you should uncheck "Verify connectivity between Host and
Engine". This makes sure that the engine won't lost connectivity and in
case of switching IP it happens.

Indeed very odd, this shouldn't behave this way, just tested it my self

Re: [ovirt-users] Failing to upload qcow2 disk image

2018-03-20 Thread Daniel Erez
Hi Anantha,

The issue seems similar to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1554226

Please try to increase to value of ImageTransferClientTicketValidityInSeconds
configuration value.
E.g.
# engine-config -s ImageTransferClientTicketValidityInSeconds=36

As the value was exposed to engine-config only in version 4.2.2, either
update the engine
to latest version or update it manually on vdc_options table.

Re: [ovirt-users] Fw: Network issues with oVirt 4.2 and cloud-init

2018-03-20 Thread Eitan Raviv
Hi Sandy,

Can you elaborate some more about the steps you have taken?

Specifically, how\where do you apply cloud-init-0.7.9-20 rpm? Can you make
sure that rpm -q cloud-init after VM reboot is still this one?

How do you apply the static IP settings that do persist to the VM - via
oVirt web-admin\REST API\other?

When you restart the VM via oVirt GUI - do you 'Run' it or 'Run Once'?

Thanks,
Eitan

Re: [ovirt-users] Gluster: VM disk stuck in transfer; georep gone wonky

2018-03-20 Thread Jim Kusznir
Thank you for the replies.

While waiting, I found one more google responce that said to run
engine-setup. I did that, and it fixed the issue. the VM is now running
again.

As to checking the logs, I'm not sure which ones to check...there are so
many in so many different places.

I was not able to detach the disk, as "an operation is currently in
process" No matter what i did to the disk, it was essentially still
locked, even though it no longer said "locked" after I removed it with the
unlock script.

So, it appears running engine-setup can really fix a bunch of stuff! An
important tip to remember...

Re: [ovirt-users] Gluster: VM disk stuck in transfer; georep gone wonky

2018-03-20 Thread Tony Brian Albers
I read somewhere about clearing out wrong stuff from the UI by manually
editing the database, maybe you can try searching for something like that.

With regards to the VM, I'd probably just delete it, edit the DB and
remove all sorts of references to it and then recover it from backup.

Is there nothing about all this in the ovirt logs on the engine and the
host? It might point you in the right direction.

Re: [ovirt-users] Gluster: VM disk stuck in transfer; georep gone wonky

2018-03-20 Thread Jim Kusznir
Unfortunately, I came under heavy pressure to get this vm back up. So, i
did more googling and attempted to recover myself. I've gotten closer, but
still not quite.

I found this post:

http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2015-November/035686.html

Which gave me the unlock tool, which was successful in unlocking the disk.
Unfortunately, it did not delete the task, nor did ovirt do so on its own
after the disk was unlocked.

So I found the taskcleaner.sh in the same directory and attempted to clean
the task outexcept it doesn't seem to see the task (none of the show
tasks options seemed to work or the delete all options). I did still have
the task uuid from the gui, so i attempted to use that, but all I got back
was a "t" on one line and a "0" on the next, so I have no idea what that
was supposed to mean. In any case, the web UI still shows the task, still
won't let me start the VM and appears convinced its still copying. I've
tried restarting the engine and vdsm on the SPM, neither have helped. I
can't find any evidence of the task on the command line; only in the UI.

I'd create a new VM if i could rescue the image, but I'm not sure I can
manage to get this image accepted in another VM

How do i recover now?

Re: [ovirt-users] Change ovirtmgmt ip from dhcp to static in a

2018-03-20 Thread Michael Burman
Hello Zois,

It pretty easy to do, via the webadmin UI , go to Hosts main tab > Choose
host > go to 'Network Interfaces' sub tab > Press the 'Setup Host Networks'
button > press the pencil icon on your management network > and choose
Static IP > press OK and OK to approve the operation.

- Note that in some cases, specially if this is a SPM host you will loose
connectivity to host for few seconds and host may go to non-responsive
state, on a non-SPM host usually this woks without any specific issues.

- If the spoken host is a SPM host, I recommend to set it first to
maintenance mode, do the switch and then activate. For non-SPM host this
will work fine as well when the host is UP.

Cheers)

Re: [ovirt-users] Network issues with oVirt 4.2 and cloud-init

2018-03-20 Thread Michael Burman
Hi Berger,

Have you sealed the template? if you didn't sealed the template on
creation, then your new VM has the same ifcfg-eth0 settings as your origin
VM.
In order to avoid this, you need to check the 'Seal Template (Linux only)'
checkbox in the New Template dialog.

Cheers)
