[ovirt-users] Hosted engine unaviable after storage rebuild

2018-07-10 Thread sebastian . w
Hello all,
My hosted engine does not start up anymore, because the node can't reach the
storage.

The hosted engine configuration has not been retrieved from shared storage.
Please ensure that ovirt-ha-agent is running and the storage server is
reachable.

What happend is that my NAS crashed and I had to rebuild it from the backup.
I'm quit sure that I called all the NFS shares the same way as they bevore the
issue.

How can I figure out whats the issue with the storage?
The logs wheren't realy helpful for me (but may it's me and not the logs to
blame)

Regards and thanks
Sebi

[ovirt-users] Re: PXE LOCALBOOT issue

2018-07-10 Thread Michael Deffenbaugh
For clarification, I'm running Version 4.2.3.5-1.el7.centos of oVirt.
Foreman is using oVirt as a compute resource and creating the VM for me.
By default it sets the first boot device as *Network (PXE)* and the second
as *Hard Disk*. Additionally, when I disable my dhcp server and allow iPXE
to timeout, it still says "No bootable device". If I switch the boot order
in the vm settings, having it boot from Hard Disk first, there are no
issues and the system boots.

This leads me to believe that oVirt/qemu is not honoring the Second boot
device. And suggestions on how to remedy this?

Sorry for the lack of detail (thank you Yedidyah) in my initial message.

Regards,
Mike

[ovirt-users] Re: upload disk using python sdk

2018-07-10 Thread Idan Shaby
Hi,

You need to create a new image_transfer_service and send the data to the
proxy.
The best way to learn how to do it is by looking at this example:
https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine-sdk/blob/master/sdk/examples/upload_disk.py

This seems to be in the phase where we create a local vm for the engine. We
do this with plain virt-install, nothing fancy. Searching the net for
"unsupported configuration: CPU mode 'custom'" finds other relevant
reports, you might want to check them. You can see the command in
bootstrap_local_vm.yml .

Please check/share versions of relevant packages (libvirt*, qemu*, etc) and
relevant logs (libvirt).

Also updating the subject line and adding Simone.

This error appears a few more times in the list's archive, all of which
seem to be related to rather-old bugs (3.5/3.6 times) or storage problems.
I assume you use 4.2. Are you sure the corruption happened only now? Did
working with snapshots worked well before the upgrade?

The lastest post, from 2016, included a workaround, you might (very
carefully!) try that.

I suggest to also open a bug and attach all relevant logs (engine, vdsm
from all relevant hosts, including SPMs at time of snapshot operations and
any other host that ran the VM), and try to give accurate reproduction
steps.

[ovirt-users] PXE LOCALBOOT issue

2018-07-10 Thread Michael Deffenbaugh
Hey all,
Provisioning a host with Foreman 1.17.1/Katello 3.6. The host
kickstarts fine but when it goes to reboot, iPXE fails to load the local
disk when the Foreman local boot kickstart menu (
https://github.com/theforeman/community-templates/blob/develop/provisioning_templates/snippet/pxelinux_chainload.erb,
line 4-10) sends the command "LOCALBOOT 0". It simply fails and says "No
more network devices. No bootable device."

Is this a bug in iPXE? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I did not select any CPU architecture. It doenst gove me the option to

the engine VM.

Looking at the documentation of installing ovirt-release36.rpmit does
allow you to select te CPU, but not when installing ovirt-release42.rpm

It looks like the VM is trying to use a CPU type of "Custom", how many

of CPU architecture (e.g. Sandybridge) of the nodes as the CPU architecture
of the cluster..

The VM had 3 snapshots. I was able to delete one from GUI then am not able
to delete the other two as the task fails. Generally I am not allowed to

Have you encountered sth similar. Any advice?

Hi,

I have just re-installed centOS 7 in 3 servers and have configured gluster
volumes following this documentation:
https://www.ovirt.org/blog/2016/03/up-and-running-with-ovirt-3-6/, But I
have installed

package.
Hosted-engine --deploy is failing with this error:

In other words, you are using your custom cert, right?

look into

/etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf

and check

SSLCertificateFile
SSLCertificateKeyFile
SSLCACertificateFile

settings. They are probably overwriten by 4.2.3 upgrade process

2018-07-10 Thread Doug Ingham
Hi Jim,
Just to throw my 2 cents in, one of my clusters is very similar to yours,
& I'm not having any of the issues you complain about. One thing I would
strongly recommend you do however is bond your NICs with LACP 802.3ad -
either 2x1Gbit for oVirt & 2x1Gbit for Gluster, or bond all of your NICs
together & separate the storage & management networks with VLANs. Swap
should generally be avoided today, RAM is cheap.

I've got about 30 VMs running on this setup without issue. Upgrading to
10Gbit will be the next step, however I/O is generally nicely balanced
across all of the NICs, so it's rarely as issue.
Considering none of this kit is particularly new or high performance, it's
not been overly noticeable as all aspects of the load & I/O are very evenly
distributed.

Ouch!!! it looks like there was a change that stops you removing system
permissions from built in group everyone, but you can add them in 4.2 which is
unfortunate.
You may have to remove them with a dbscript.

[ovirt-users] Re: Spice console pixelated noise on display changes

2018-07-10 Thread Mitja Mihelič

Answering the question for posterity.
We found a temporary solution to the described problem.
We had a development cluster with a working SPICE console. By comparing
packages we have established the differences between working and not
working SPICE setup. We have isolated the spice-server package.

The installed version was spice-server-0.14.0-2.el7_5.3.x86_64
We downgraded the package to spice-server-0.12.8-2.el7.1.x86_64 and
rebooted the nodes in sequence.

Now the SPICE console works again.

Kind regards,
Mitja

Greg, thank you for the referral. I will post my question there.

Since oVirt uses spice it seemed like a good shot to ask fellow admins

Dear all,

We are running the following setup:
ovirt-engine host:
- CentOS release 7.5.1804
- ovirt-engine-4.1.9.1-1.el7.centos.noarch
- spice-html5-0.1.7-1.el7.noarch

We have noticed problems with the Spice console. When it opens
and displays the information presented by the VM's console it is
OK at first. But as soon as any part of the display changes, that
part gets replaced by random pixelated noise.
For example I open the console of a standard CentOS server. When
I type something at the login prompt the text is invisible and
random pixels are displayed at the position of the blinking
cursor. Please see attached screenshot
spice-1-login_typing_and_cursor_waiting.png.

Please also see other the attached screenshots.
Login prompt after VM reboot: spice-2-login_after_boot.png
Login prompt after hitting Enter a few times:
spice-3-login_2x_enter.png

We have tried and succesfully reproduced the issue on OSX
(Chrome, FF, Safari) and Windows (Chrome, FF).
VNC works fine.

Why would this be happening? Help would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Mitja

[ovirt-users] Re: Ovirt cluster unstable; gluster to blame (again)

2018-07-10 Thread Alex K
I see also that the last 4 or 5 weeks (after I upgraded from 4.1 to 4.2) I
have to almost every week go and refresh the servers (maintenance, reboot)
to release the RAM. If I leave them the RAM ill be eventually depleted from
gluster services. I am running gluster 3.12.9-1 with ovirt 4.2.4.5-1.el7.

I checked the file at: /var/log/vdsm/supervdsm.log, but without any relevant
information about mount or gpfs, including other words like: mnt, posix, domain
or file. If you consider, we can add it too.

As I commented before, i can't find any relevant messages on the dmesg output

Apparently, on some documentation I read that GPFS is fully supported with
Ovirt and RHEV environments, so I consider that GPFS is a POSIX compliant
filesystem. In addition, when I configured the fs, I defined the type POSIX for
two parameters during the creation:

-D posixFile locking semantics in effect
 -k posixACL semantics in effect

On the ovirt Add Storage Domain Form, I put on Custom Connection Parameters,
the flags that I encountered on the mount entry for the two GPFS file systems:

rw,relatime

I'm looking for a workaround to try to add this fs on the environment. If you
consider that I can collaborate checking other confs or files, I'm ready to do
that.

Kind regards and thanks in advance!

I search on the dmesg output without results, I can't find relevant messages at
the moment when I try to add the new storage domain or later.

As you say, I attached a sosreport on this webpage (due to limits on the
mailserver), maybe it's useful to find the cause of the problem.

If you need more logs, confs, etc, I can add it without problems because we are
on a testing environment.
