[ovirt-users] Re: Info on HCI single host

2018-08-24 Thread femi adegoke
I was playing around with a 3 node setup.
This was on 4.3 based on FC28.
In the Cockpit UI, after completing the 1st stage of the hyperconverged setup,
I saw this (see pic)

You have to create a new logical network in
"Network > Networks > New"
and assign this to ib0 in
"Compute > Hosts > hostname > Network Interfaces > Setup Host Networks".
After this you can assign a role to this network in
"Compute > Clusters > Clustername > Logical Networks > Manage Networks"

Sorry, I mean "migration network" for moving live migration traffic.

FDR infiniband much faster than 1Gb network which currently acts as
migration network, vm network, display network, mgmt network, etc.

I do not understand the meaning of "transfer network".
The network interface to use for NFS results from the routing tables of
the host.
In "Compute > Clusters > Clustername > Logical Networks > Manage
Networks" network roles for some kind of loads can be assigned, but not
for NFS access.

[ovirt-users] Re: Console to HostedEngine

2018-08-24 Thread Daniel Menzel

Hi Simone,
it worked - I can access the server via SSH again to solve the original
problem (which is an httpd problem). Concerning the add-console-password
problem: It sounds weird to me, too.

For others: In my case the console device was there, it just did not
have any ID or address:

devices={device:console,type:console}

Regards
Daniel

something adding like this should be enough:
devices={device:console,type:console,deviceId:816e131e-5718-45e7-b1e3-81a6dfd51e19,address:None}

and please remove xmlBase64= line if there since it contains the XML for
libvirt as generated by the engine and that one, if there, wins over the
dictionary for vdsm.

 > As an alternative, VNC console should work as well; you can set VNC
 > password with
 > hosted-engine --add-console-password

I have tried this, too. The result was the following:

Command VM.updateDevice with args {'params': {'existingConnAction':
'keep', 'graphicsType': 'vnc', 'params': {}, 'ttl': '120',
'deviceType':
'graphics', 'password': ''}, 'vmID': ''} failed:

(code=56, message=Failed to update device)

This sounds really weird.

[ovirt-users] Turn Off Email Alerts

2018-08-24 Thread Douglas Duckworth
Hi

How do I turn off hosted engine alerts? We are in a testing phase so these
are not needed. I have disabled postfix on all hosts as well as stopped
the ovirt notification daemon on the hosted engine. I kept it running
while putting /dev/null in
/usr/share/ovirt-engine/services/ovirt-engine-notifier/ovirt-engine-notifier.conf
for
mail server. Yet I still get alerts for every thing done such as putting
hosts in maintenance mode. Very confusing.

Hello Simone,
thanks for your reply.

hosted-engine --vm-shutdown --vm-conf=/root/my_vm.conf

I came across that before but the syntax of this file is nebulous to me
as it looks like some kind of JSON?! How do I add the serial console
there? What's the syntax?

As an alternative, VNC console should work as well; you can set VNC
password with

hosted-engine --add-console-password

I have tried this, too. The result was the following:

Command VM.updateDevice with args {'params': {'existingConnAction':
'keep', 'graphicsType': 'vnc', 'params': {}, 'ttl': '120', 'deviceType':
'graphics', 'password': ''}, 'vmID': ''} failed:

it shouldn’t be send like that. The CPU the VM is supposed to use should be
“Broadwell,+spce-ctrl,+ssbd". Simone, how does it end up in configuration like
above?

Please see this: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1590943
with engine 4.2.5-1 you can definitively enable the serial console device
editing the engine VM from the engine itself.

If you are not able to reach the engine VM for the upgrade, you can
copy /var/run/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha/vm.conf somewhere, edit it to add the
console device and restart the hosted-engine VM with a custom vm.conf with
something like:

hosted-engine --vm-shutdown --vm-conf=/root/my_vm.conf

As an alternative, VNC console should work as well; you can set VNC
password with
hosted-engine --add-console-password

[ovirt-users] Console to HostedEngine

2018-08-24 Thread Daniel Menzel

Hi at all,

we cannot access our hosted engine anymore. It started with and overfull
/var due to a growing  database. We access the engine via SSH and tried
to fix that - but somehow we seem to have produced another problem on
the SSH server itself. So unfortunately we can not login anymore.

We then tried to access it via its host and a "hosted-engine --console"
but ran into an

internal error: cannot find character device

which I know from KVM. With other VMs I could follow the RedHat's advice
to add a console
(https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/6/html/virtualization_host_configuration_and_guest_installation_guide/app_domain_console)
but although I edited the hosted engine's profile those changes weren't
applied - and after an engine restart even deleted again. That kind of
makes sense to me, but limits my options.

So my question is: Is there any idea how can I access the the console
with my current limitations to fix the SSH server's problems and then
hopefully fix everything?

Regards
Daniel

[ovirt-users] Re: HA VMs not starting automatically on another host after host crash.

2018-08-24 Thread Eduardo Mayoral
Thanks for your fast answer, Alex.

Will flag the VMs as HA.

Indeed I was not interpreting correctly the "Resiliency policy" setting.
For the record, I found it very well explained here:

https://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2015-March/031896.html

Best regards,

[ovirt-users] Upgrading librbd1 and librados2 for oVirt 4.2.x

2018-08-24 Thread andreas . elvers+ovirtforum
Hallo Group !

I am in need of upgrading librbd1 and librados2 for a oVirt 4.2.x cluster.
The cluster was installed via node ng.

Taking the repository for Ceph Mimic or Luminous will end in a dependency
problem because liburcu-cds.so.1 is already installed as a more recent version
provided by the oVirt repository.

A hint on how to get a more recent versions of the above libraries would be very
much appreciated.

Thanks,
- Andreas

[ovirt-users] Re: VM has been paused due to unknown storage error. - Only on NFS / EMC

2018-08-24 Thread jeanbaptiste
Hi,

Thanks for answer,

I've isolate the issue into first SP (Storage processor) on my VNXe. On the
another SP, I don't have issue.
Difference between both SP is load average / cpu usage. I think my NAS is too
much used and there is an issue because of usage.
There is no network bottleneck (500Mbit/s during stress, instead of 100Mbit/s
during normal load). Link is 2*1Gbit/s LACP

Ticket is open with EMC, I hope give some news soon :)

Regards,

[ovirt-users] HA VMs not starting automatically on another host after host crash.

2018-08-24 Thread Eduardo Mayoral

Hi,

Recently I have had 2 oVirt hosts (oVirt 4.2, CentOS 7.5) crash
unexpectedly (not at the same time). Both seem hardware related.

In both cases oVirt did detect the host as non responsive, did a
fence on the hosts and set the VMs which were running on the host at the
time as "Down". So far, so good.

The hosts were on 2 different clusters. Both had Migration policy /
resilience policy set to "migrate Virtual Machines". The VMs are not
configured as "Highly available", but my understanding is that with that
resiliency policy, this makes no difference. My (probably wrong)
expectation, is that oVirt should have attempted to start the VMs in
another host. It did not. A colleague started the VMs manually and they
started with no further issues.

So. How should I configure oVirt to try to start the VMs on another
host when the physical host they are running in crashes?

    Thanks in advance!
