[ovirt-users] Import VM from VMware fails

2018-11-06 Thread Markus Schaufler
Hi,

I configured a VMware Provider (Test success) and tried to import a VM which
fails shortly after starting.

Failed to import Vm SK-Test-VSAN to Data Center Default, Cluster Default

from engine.log:
"HSMGetAllTasksStatusesVDS failed: Error creating a new volume: (u"Volume
creation 9909f715-cd8a-452a-bb2a-73341b77f8af failed: Invalid parameter:
'initial size=107175936'"

any ideas on that?

[ovirt-users] Re: ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup failed

2018-11-06 Thread Jeremy Tourville
>>>Can you try to run that on command line[1], or can you double check that
>>>such user exists?

Here is the result of the command:
[root@ldap ~]# ldapsearch -x -H ldap://ldap.cyber-range.lan -b
'dc=cyber-range,dc=lan' -D
'uid=admin,ou=Administrators,ou=TopologyManagement,o=NetscapeRoot' -W uid=admin
Enter LDAP Password:
# extended LDIF
#
# LDAPv3
# base  with scope subtree
# filter: uid=admin
# requesting: ALL
#

# search result
search: 2
result: 0 Success

# numResponses: 1

Basically, I did not create any users except for the ones that were "created"
during the setup-ds-admin.pl script run.
https://www.unixmen.com/install-and-configure-ldap-server-in-centos-7/
I ran the script just like the article did to include names, I did however
change the server and domain names to match mine. I didn't create any users
using the GUI or ldapmodify after the initial setup. Do I need to create a
user with the needed bind privileges or is my problem somewhere else?

Looking at logs you may see:

2018-10-31 16:48:09,331-05 FINEPerforming SearchRequest
'SearchRequest(baseDN='dc=cyber-range,dc=lan', scope=SUB, deref=NEVER,

2018-10-31 16:48:09,333-05 FINESearchResult:
SearchResult(resultCode=0 (success), messageID=3, entriesReturned=0,
referencesReturned=0)

So the AAA is trying to search user uid=admin in namespace
dc=cyber-range,dc=lan. But the 389ds return nothing. Can you try to run
that on command line[1], or can you double check that such user exists?

Seems like admin which you use in vars.user, from namespace
o=NetscapeRoot, can't search in namespace dc=cyber-range,dc=lan.

Try to use as vars.use user from namespace dc=cyber-range,dc=lan.

[1] ldapsearch -x -H ldap://ldap.cyber-range.lan -b
'dc=cyber-range,dc=lan' -D
'uid=admin,ou=Administrators,ou=TopologyManagement,o=NetscapeRoot' -W
uid=admin

[ovirt-users] Re: non-ovirt node as gluster node

2018-11-06 Thread Simon Coter
Quick question on this:

is there a solution/procedure to get from a standard installation to a hyper
converged one ?
Like if I have 3 servers with local-storage and one external engine managing
all of them; is there a step-by-step procedure to move to hyper converged ?

[ovirt-users] New disks cloned from template get wrong quota-id, when quota is disabled on DC

2018-11-06 Thread Florian Schmid
Hi,

we have recently upgraded our ovirt environment from 4.1.6 to 4.1.9 and then to
4.2.5.
I don't know exactly when this issue was happened the first time, because on
the affected DCs, we haven't created new VMs for some time ago.

To our setup:
We have several DCs configured and only the former default one has quota
enabled.
We have separate templates for each DC and they haven't been cloned or anything
else from a template in default DC

When I now create a VM on DC from a template (disks are cloned), where quota is
not enabled, the new disks are getting quotas assigned, which are not available
in that DC!
The template disks all have the correct quota ID assigned!

Example from engine DB:
select * from image_storage_domain_map where storage_domain_id =
'73caedd0-6ef3-46e0-a705-fe268f04f9cc';

As you see, the disk a50b46ce-e350-40a4-8f00-968529777446 was created some
minutes ago, but it has a different default quota ID assigned as the other
disks above.

As you see here, both quota IDs are default IDs and therefore can't be on the
same DC or storage domain.

As soon I enable quota on that DC, new disks created by VM creation via
template, will get the correct quota ID.

The problem with wrong IDs is, that you can't edit the disks anymore!

I can repeat that error every time and I can give all the information you need
to debug this. Pleas inform me, what data do you need...

Best Regards
Florian

[ovirt-users] corrupted hosted engine

2018-11-06 Thread Jarosław Prokopowski
Hi,

It looks like after host restart my hosted engine VM is not accessible any
more.
The storage is glusterfs. The gluster volume is healthy.

The VM status is:
{"reason": "failed liveliness check", "health": "bad", "vm": "up",
"detail": "Up"}

hosted-engine --console
The engine VM is running on this host
Connected to domain HostedEngine
Escape character is ^]
error: internal error: cannot find character device

I tried to boot it from cdrom by changing vm.conf file and I'm not sure if
the syntax is correct:
1. I removed bootOrder:1 from the index:0 device
devices={index:0,iface:virtio,format:raw,address:{type:pci,slot:0x07,bus:0x00,domain:0x,function:0x0},volumeID:8d823e33-4260-4004-a468-cf477d7b1f5b,imageID:41342181-5c8f-4544-878b-44fdaa40dddc,readonly:false,domainID:beb954e7-61b7-4437-bd21-4b268e1a26e5,deviceId:41342181-5c8f-4544-878b-44fdaa40dddc,poolID:----,device:disk,shared:exclusive,propagateErrors:off,type:disk}

2. in index:2 device I addedd bootOrder:1 and path to the iso image:
devices={index:2,iface:ide,shared:false,readonly:true,bootOrder:1,deviceId:8c3179ac-b322-4f5c-9449-c52e3665e0ae,address:{controller:0,target:0,unit:0,bus:1,type:drive},device:cdrom,path:/opt/iso/CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1804.iso,type:disk}

The outcome is the same - no console connection.

Now I also get:

hosted-engine --vm-start
Command VM.getStats with args {'vmID':
'1e3aa9cf-8708-40a0-bc86-1127df01047a'} failed:
(code=1, message=Virtual machine does not exist: {'vmId':
u'1e3aa9cf-8708-40a0-bc86-1127df01047a'})

Unfortunately I do not have any backup. Is there a way to redeploy hosted
engine and import current configuration or any other way to fix it?

[ovirt-users] Hardware for oVirt

2018-11-06 Thread p . staniforth
Hello,
 we are looking to expand our oVirt system, at present we use HPE
ProLiant DL360 Gen9 servers but are considering using Broadberry
TN200B7108-X4L Multi Node Servers.
I was wondering if anyone had experience of using them, they are quad-node
systems and I assume we can use them as 4 oVirt nodes.

Thanks,

I've followed your link, from my notes I see I've already tested it in
 the beginning of my messing. I've set 'ssl = false' in
/etc/vdsm/vdsm.conf and run 'vdsm-tool configure --force'. Since it
has just commented out 'spice_tls=1', I've forced it to 'spice_tls=0'
(though it should give the same result as commenting out) and run once
 again 'vdsm-tool configure --force'.

There was no warning report about non-configured stuff. Vdsm still
fails to start.

I've attached 2 logs, compressed in one archive 'vdsm_logs.xz'.
These logs are:
1) vdsmd_journalctl.0.txt contains the result of
'journalctl -xe -u vdsmd'

2) vsdm_messages_err.1.txt contains the result of
'grep -i vdsm /var/log/messages'

Quick summary with what I think are the relevant lines from the logs:
# journalctl -xe -u vdsmd

OK, no that is not supported. I mean, it was a long time ago but not
any more. I wouldn´t worry about the engine being a VM, it´s acutally
very stable, net positive compared to having it physical, in my
opinion. And more available compared to having hardware outage.

What I would do is set it up as three node hyperconverged and then just
remove "Machine1" from the "Hosts" interface, so it´s not used for
compute.

Machine1 only has a very limited amount of RAM, so it's not usable as a
node.

And I'd like to keep the engine outside, at least for now.

Tony, is there a reason why you wouldn't just do a three more hyper

Usually you´d want to deploy oVirt/Gluster "hyperconverged"[*] with
three machines. Hyperconverged means that the servers are deployed both
for compute and storage at the same time, and the engine is a VM in
it´s own cluster (it doesn´t have to be a separate server).

Or is this something you really don´t want? If so, why?

[ovirt-users] non-ovirt node as gluster node

2018-11-06 Thread Tony Brian Albers
Hi guys,

I have 3 machines that I'd like to test oVirt/gluster on.

The idea is that I want two of them to be oVirt nodes and the third to
run the oVirt engine.

They all have 8 hdd's, and I'd like to use these in gluster for storing
the vm images. (on all 3 machines)

So,
machine1 is a gluster server with oVirt engine installed
machine2 is a gluster server and oVirt node
machine3 is a gluster server and oVirt node

Is this doable?

TIA,

/tony

I see that the server mentioned has IPMI 2.0. Thus I would check to
configure power management using IPMI. For example: I use "type" ipmilan,

2018-11-06 Thread Robert O'Kane

Supermicro Boards use IPMI to controll their Servers. Not all X7 generation
boards have IPMI standard. There is an extra card needed for these server
boards.
Check out the Supermicro website and search for IPMI options for your
motherboard.

I am running ovirt 4.7.2 on Centos 7. My compute nodes are on  Supermicro
X7QC3 hosts.

I know it is supposed to be there since every time I look at the dashbaord it

to be trivial to configure.

What I keep running into with the documents is the assumption that you

Any assistance would be appreciated.

[ovirt-users] Foreman integration / CDRom boot ?

2018-11-06 Thread jeanbaptiste
Hello everybody,

Is there a way to make work Foreman/OVirt provisioning integration without use
of DHCP ? I explain:

On some of my networks, I don't want to use DHCP for provisioning, so I want to
provision Foreman / OVirt VM with CDRom tool,
After some research, bootdisk plugin seem mandatory:
https://github.com/theforeman/foreman_bootdisk.
I've install it succesfully, but I can't provision VM with Boot disk based
Provisioning Method ( UI > Create Host > Operating System).

Is it possible to boot a Foreman / OVirt VM to CDRom ? (or Network Based with
DHCP is mandatory for provisioning ?)
