[ovirt-users] Re: Creating Thin-provisioned disks on a gluster volume

2019-05-07 Thread Dmitry Filonov
Thank you, Gianluca! I was searching list archives but couldn't find
anything recent. All threads were from years ago. Glad am not the only one.
Yes, the problem is only from GUI and gluster only.

Thanks again.

It seems this is the third separate thread regarding the same problem since
25/04 but I have not seen any answer (positive or negative) from one of the
oVirt developers / maintainers yet on the list...
(perhaps right now probably involved in Red Hat Summit.. )
Anyway I see that Strahil already opened a bug here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1704782
And there is useful information inside it, such as that the problem is only
on gluster and only if disk is created from webadmin GUI, while from rest
API is ok.
Also from 4.2 to 4.3 disk format (only on gluster) changed default from
thin provisioned to preallocated.

[ovirt-users] Creating Thin-provisioned disks on a gluster volume

2019-05-07 Thread Dmitry Filonov
Hi -
We want to migrate our aging oVirt cluster to a new one and decided to go
for the hyperconverged setup with Gluster and hosted engine. Got 3 new
machines, set everything up, did a test VM migration and were almost ready
to do final migration of our VMs when I notice one really weird thing.
When migrating VMs from NFS storage onto Gluster they stay thin
provisioned. But if I try creating new disk image from the oVirt GUI - I
get preallocated volume. No matter if I select "thin provision" or
"Preallocated" I always get preallocated volume created.

The engine.log says -
2019-05-07 17:14:20,562-04 INFO
[org.ovirt.engine.core.vdsbroker.irsbroker.CreateImageVDSCommand] (default
task-20) [bbd94792-2f86-44eb-9334-807dd44d0742] START,

imageType='Preallocated',
*newImageDescription='{"DiskAlias":"test","DiskDescription":""}',
imageInitialSizeInBytes='0'}), log id: 228ddfd5

Is there any tweak I didn't notice to make things actually what it suppose
to be doing?

oVirt 4.3.3.5-1.el7
glusterfs 5.5-1.el7
CentOS Linux release 7.6.1810

Thank you!

[ovirt-users] Logical interface naming issues

2019-05-07 Thread Tom Edwards
Hello oVirt community,

Seems lik a bug. I don't have more than one environment to test on so I
can't be 100% sure and didn't want to file a report (but didn't know where
else to report this).

I have a fresh install self hosted ovirt cluster 4.3.1.1-1.el7. When I
build any logical network adapter with a "-" in the name ex
"guest-network-01" the network interface names appear on the hosts (using
ip addr command) as garbled names like on8cd19bc011414. They still appear
to work, but when you try to make a VNic profile based on the broken name
the VMs fail to boot, the VM has to be killed via command line on each host
afterwards (they try to boot and hang on all hosts in the cluster
corrupting the disk of the VM) because it can't find the parent logical
network interface by name.

Example errors:
VM Security-Onion is down with error. Exit message: (1, 'Cannot find device
"guest-dmz-ne"\n', ['/sbin/tc', 'qdisc', 'add', 'dev', 'guest-dmz-network',
'ingress']).
VDSM ovirt-2 command DestroyVDS failed: General Exception: ('(1, \'Cannot
find device "guest-dmz-ne"\\n\', [\'/sbin/tc\', \'filter\', \'show\',
\'dev\', \'guest-dmz-network\', \'parent\', \':\'])',)

That took me a very long time to figure out and broke many vms in the
process =(

Since windows runs in local time, did you set the hardware clock offset
in oVirt for the guest to its local timezone? You have to do that and
set the timezone in Windows itself.

ovirt is going to default to use UTC offset for a guest.

Meanwhile I was able to remove the old wrecked engine with the

with engine undeployment selected. So I'm now able to bring back the engine to
the old Default Datacenter and NFS.

[ovirt-users] Re: Cluster Un-stable since power outage

2019-05-07 Thread Darrell Budic
Was your hyper converged and is this storage gluster based?

Your error is DNS related, if a bit odd. Have you checked the resolv.conf
configs and confirmed the servers listed there are reachable and responsive?
When your hosts are active, are they able to mount all the storage domains they
need? You should also make sure each HA node can reliably ping your gateway IP,
failures there will cause nodes to bounce.

A starting place rather a solution, but the first places to look. Good luck!

Could you guys report:

- time zone settings in VM options
- time zone settings in the guest OS
- time zone displayed in 'Guest Info' tab
- guestTimezone object in the output of the command: vdsm-client Host

I tried that and it works OK for me on Windows 2012R2. The timezone from
guest is reported as 'Eastern Standard Time'. For you however it sends
'Eastern Daylight Time'. I wonder if it is caused be some localization/time
setting in your guest.

[ovirt-users] Re: Hosted engine restore went very wrong

2019-05-07 Thread Andreas Elvers
The second deployment still triggers "The target Data Center does not contain
the Virtual Disk".

Trying again. This time deleting the old data in the gluster volume. Changing
number of engine CPUs from 4 to 2. Hope this gives the race condition some
different gravity.

[ovirt-users] Cluster Un-stable since power outage

2019-05-07 Thread Alan G
Hi,

We have a dev cluster running 4.2. It had to be powered down as the building
was going to loose power. Since we've brought it back up it has been massively
un-stable (Hosts constantly switching state, VMs migrating all the time).

I now have one host running (with HE) and all others in maintenance mode. When
I try activate another host i see storage errors in vdsm.log

I'm a bit stuck at the moment. My only idea is to remove HE and switch to a

[ovirt-users] Re: oVirt and NetApp NFS storage

2019-05-07 Thread jon
So for all lease-holding vms, push the lease to a different storage domain (on
different storage hardware), apply the upgrade and then push the leases back?
And that can be done whilst the VMs are running? Leases must be frequently
renewed, so I guess no particular reason why not.

Does that work for the SPM and hosted engine as well?

I'm guessing this doesn't help with an unmanaged contoller failover.
Anecdotally, that seems to happen a bit faster for me than a managed one, which
is also odd.

[ovirt-users] Hosted engine restore went very wrong

2019-05-07 Thread Andreas Elvers
I really feel like an idiot. I tried to move our hosted engine from our Default
datacenter to our Ceph Datacenter.
I ran intro problems which were correctly addressed.
see:
https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/ZFCLFWRN6XR6KMHMC63O7J37D5GNPVKZ/

It was in case a race condition. I was able to bring back the engine to our
Default Cluster. And then I tried to
do the move again to our Ceph Datacenter.

I got the error "The target Data Center does not contain the Virtual Disk"
twice yesterday. Because it was late,
I decided to do it in the next morning.

I did a new backup from the engine. Copied it over to the new node of the Ceph
Datacenter and started the
hosted-engine --deploy. But I FORGET TO SHUTDOWN the other engine! Oh man.

The deploy script errored out with:

[ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"censored": "the output has been
hidden due to the fact that 'no_log: true' was specified for this result",
"changed": false}

[ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost -> engine.infra.solutions.work]: FAILED! =>
{"changed": false, "msg": "There was a failure deploying the engine on the
local engine VM. The system may not be provisioned accord

Then I realised something was different this time.
I shutdown and undefined the Local Engine. The node is now in a degraded state.
Is it possible to start the deployment again on a degraded node?
I started the old engine again, but I'm not able to reach the login page.

Any Idea what to do next?

"yum update".

ovirt-host was introduced in 4.2 [1] and back-ported to 4.1 at 4.1.7
[2], to allow adding 4.1 hosts to 4.2 engines [3].

In principle, it might have been possible to do something like:
1. Install 4.0 host and add it to 4.0 engine
2. Update to 4.1 using 'yum update'
3. Same, to 4.2
4. Same, to 4.3

Then, you'll get correct vdsm, which should be enough for the engine
to be able to talk to it and behave as if all is ok.

Weird.

How do you update your hosts? Only via 'yum update'? The engine admin
ui? Something else?

And you never saw "updates available" icon in the ui?

Simone - perhaps we can consider using otopi answer files for

That's weird. Can you check in yum.log (or yum history) if you ever
had it, and when/why it was removed?

If you try to, does it bring with it any dependencies?

Generally speaking: ovirt-host is a meta-package, not providing any
content by itself, that depends on all the packages that we need on
oVirt hosts. It's installed by default in node (it's actually the main
means used to decide what to put there, other than base OS),
installed/updated by ovirt-host-deploy, etc.

So, yes, you should install it. If, when you try to install it, it
does not add any dependencies with it, then strictly speaking, you do
not have to, because it will do nothing (other than get rid of the
icon in the ui).

Best regards,
