Hi, same issue for us, the solution was :
Make a snappshot
Edit the properties, putting 32768 MB for "Mem", 131072 MB for "Max" and 32768
MB for "Guaranteed"
Then reboot the server (cold reboot)

Does this mean that the VyOS VM on oVirt should forward layer 2 traffic to
the VyOS VM on proxmox?
Is there a way to share a VLAN? (This would avoid additional tunneling.)
Can you please share some details?

If VyOS is a VM on oVirt, network filtering should be disabled on the vNIC
profile which sends and
receives the unencapsulated traffic, before the oVirt VM is booted.

[ovirt-users] Re: Ovirt OVN help needed

2019-12-11 Thread Dominik Holler
The cleanest way to clean up is to remove all entities on the OpenStack
Network API on ovirt-provider-ovn, e.g. by something like
https://gist.github.com/dominikholler/19bcdc5f14f42ab5f069086fd2ff5e37#file-list_security_groups-py-L25
This should work, if not, please report a bug.

To bypass the ovirt-provider-ovn, which is not recommended and might end in
an inconsistent state, you could use ovn-nbctl .

[ovirt-users] Re: Question about HCI gluster_inventory.yml

2019-12-11 Thread Gobinda Das
Hi John,
You need to specify storage-fqdn(Which should mapped to storage network)
and ovirtmgmt-fqdn (Which should mapped to frontend network) like this:
hc_nodes:
  hosts:
host1-STORAGE-fqdn:
host2-STORAGE-fqdn:
host3-STORAGE-fqdn:
  vars:
cluster_nodes:
   - host1-STORAGE-fqdn
   - host2-STORAGE-fqdn
   - host3-STORAGE-fqdn
gluster_features_hci_cluster: "{{ cluster_nodes }}"

gluster:
  host2-ovirtmgmt-fqdn:
  host3-ovirtmgmt-fqdn:
  storage_domains:
[{"name":"data","host":"host1-STORAGE-fqdn","address":"host1-STORAGE-fqdn","path":"/data","mount_options":"backup-volfile-servers=host2-STORAGE-fqdn:host3-STORAGE-fqdn"},{"name":"vmstore","host":"host1-STORAGE-fqdn","address":"host1-STORAGE-fqdn","path":"/vmstore","mount_options":"backup-volfile-servers=host2-STORAGE-fqdn:host3-STORAGE-fqdn"}]

Have you checked the passwordless rsync between master and slave volume nodes ?

[ovirt-users] Question about HCI gluster_inventory.yml

2019-12-11 Thread John Call
Hi ovirt-users,

I'm trying to automate my HCI deployment, but can't figure out how to
specify multiple network interfaces in gluster_inventory.yml. My servers
have two NICs, one for ovirtmgmt (and everything else), and the other is
just for Gluster. How should I populate the inventory/vars file? Is this
correct?

[root@rhhi1 hc-ansible-deployment]# pwd

[ovirt-users] Mixing compute and storage without (initial) HCI

2019-12-11 Thread thomas
Some documentation, especially on older RHEV versions seems to indicate that
Gluster storage roles and compute server roles in an oVirt cluster or actually
exclusive.

Yet HCI is all about doing both, which is slightly confusing when you try to
overcome HCI issues simply by running the management engine in a "side car", in
my case simply a KVM VM running on a host that's not part of the HCI
(attempted) cluster.

So the HCI wizard failed to deploy the management VM, but left me with a
working Gluster.

I then went ahead and used a fresh CentOS 7.7 VM to install the hosted engine
the the script variant without an appliance.
That went ... not too bad initially, it even found the Gluster bricks
eventually, installed the three hosts, looked almost ready to go, but something
must be wrong with the "ovirtmgmt" network.
It looks alright in the network configuration, where it has all roles, but when
I try to create a VM, I cannot select it as the standard network for the VM.
Any new network I might try to define, won't work either.

So apart from these detail problems: Is the prohibition against mising both
roles, gluster and (compute) cluster still in place?
Because there are also documentation remnants which seem to indicate that a
management engine for an existing cluster can actually be converted into a VM
managed by the hosted engine e.g. as part of a recovery, repeating later what
the HCI setup attempts to automate.

[ovirt-users] Re: 3node HCI fails when HostedEngineLocal is trying to add additional Gluster members

2019-12-11 Thread thomas
Hi Strahil, first of all, thanks for following up on this...

I think I'll put that list of yours on the wall: It's a key piece of
documentation that I found missing: Perhaps you could reconstruct it from
systemd dependencies, but...

I may not have rebooted... it takes a long time on these older HP servers and
it sometimes brings about additional challenges..

e.g the device-mapper keeps finding DM signatures on storage that I had
definitely told it to delete... so if I forget over the reboot of three nodes
(all of which have to be accessed through a myriad of ILO tunnels) VDO setup
will fail again with a "filter on /dev/sdb..."

But I do restart the network and all ovirt related daemons... and check that
they are in an expected state (e.g. ha-broker and ha-agent stopped after a
"complete" cleanup.

I am currently blaiming an Ansible change (and waiting for more statistical
evidence from others):
"The 'ovirt_host_facts' module has been renamed to 'ovirt_host_info', and the
renamed one no longer returns ansible_facts"

But I also managed to make /etc/resolv.conf not world readable on some of the
nodes, which seems to have unexpected effects...
Didn't have time to clean that cluster yet... (four HCI clusters for testing
currently, all failing one way or another)

[ovirt-users] Re: CPU Type compatibility matrix

2019-12-11 Thread thomas
Actually oVirt simply makes the node you initially install the HostedEngine on
the baseline, which is why it says in the docs that you should run it from your
"oldest" machine to ensure it doesn't fall over in case an even older host wins
the contest for running the management engine VM after "HCI teleportation".

I know, because it's one of the many things I did wrong first time around ;-)

2019-12-11 Thread thomas
Yes, I have had the same and posted about it here somewhere: I believe it's an
incompatible Ansible change.

Here is the critical part if the message below:
"The 'ovirt_host_facts' module has been renamed to 'ovirt_host_info', and the
renamed one no longer returns ansible_facts"

and that change was made in the transition of Ansible 2.8* to 2.9, from what I
gathered.

I guess I should just make it a bug report if you find the same message in your
logs.

[ovirt-users] Re: Gluster set up fails - Nearly there I think...

2019-12-11 Thread thomas
The error message "/dev/sdXX has been excluded by a filter" is potentially very
misleading, because it catches all sorts of conditions.
Basically any known storage signature on the storage you may recycle (perhaps
from a previous attempt) will trigger this.
The functionality is more of a feature, it's just the message that could be
improved.
And then there is simply too many different storage allocation schemes, which
LVM tries to recognize all.
I have occasionally had to fight hard with dmsetup, because some fluke
devmapper signature was still found that lsblk -f, lvs, pvs etc. could not see.

I like to use cockpit/storage to test creating volumes before I do another run
with the HCI wizard.

[ovirt-users] Re: OVN communications between hosts

Hi Pavel,

Would you mind to share the list of ovn devices you have.
Currently in UI, I don't have any network (except ovirtmgmt) and I see
multiplee devices.

My guess is that I should remove all but the br-int , but I would like not to
kill my cluster communication :)

[ovirt-users] Re: Cannot forward traffic through VXLAN

2019-12-11 Thread k . betsis
We currently have 2 bare metals.
One holds the ovirt and the other proxmox.

As to enable high availability and config sync on the proxmox hosted VMs we
have deployed VyOS on both hyper-visors.

We then use L2TPv3 as to extend VM networks from proxmox to ovirt and vice
versa.
When that was finalized and all VMs were activated in ovirt we would delete
proxmox and deploy ovirt and re-do the same think as to re-enable VM high
availability.

The issue is that VM Networks drop traffic towards the VyOS VM even through we
have enable mac-spoofing and promiscuous on the VM custom properties.

The VM Networks must drop frames for destination MAC addresses not directly
hosted on it and i don't know how to disable/bypass that.

What is your motivation to do this?

[ovirt-users] Re: HCL: 4.3.7: Hosted engine fails

2019-12-11 Thread Robert Webb
I could not find if that CPU supported SSBD or not.

Log into one your nodes via console and run, "cat /proc/cpuinfo" and check the
"flags" section and see if SSBD is listed. If not, then look at your cluster
config under the "General" section and see what it has for "Cluster CPU Type".
Make sure it hasn't chosen a CPU type which it thinks has SSBD available.

I have a Xeon X5670 and it does support SSBD and there is a specific CPU type
selected named, "Intel Westmere IBRS SSBD Family".

Hope this helps.

Subject: [ovirt-users] HCL: 4.3.7: Hosted engine fails

Hey all,

Using a homogeneous ovirt-node-ng-4.3.7-0.20191121.0 freshly created
cluster using node installer I am unable to deploy the hosted engine.
Everything else worked.

In vdsm.log is a line, just after attempting to start the engine:

libvirtError: the CPU is incompatible with host CPU: Host CPU does not
provide required features: virt-ssbd

I am using AMD EPYC 7282 16-Core Processors.

I have attached

  - vdsm.log (during and failing the start)
  - messages (for bootup / libvirt messages)
  - dmesg (grub / boot config)
  - deploy.log (browser output during deployment)
  - virt-capabilites (virsh -r capabilities)

I can't think -or don't know- off any other log files of interest here,
but I am more than happy to oblige.

notectl check tells me

The odd thing is the hosted engine vm does get started during initial
configuration and works. Just when the ansible stuff is done an its
moved over to ha storage the CPU quirks start.

So far I learned that ssbd is a mitigation protection but the flag is
not in my cpu. Well, ssbd is virt-ssbd is not.

I am *starting* with ovirt. I would really, really welcome it if
recommendations would include clues on how to make it happen.
I do rtfm, but I was unable to find anything (or any solution) anywhere.
Not after 80 hours of working on this.

Thank you all.

You can follow
https://ovirt.org/documentation/upgrade-guide/chap-Upgrading_from_4.1_to_oVirt_4.2.html
just
replacing 4.1 to 4.2 with 4.2 to 4.3.
Pay attention when upgrading CentOS: repo files can be created with .rpmnew
extension and lead to some issues later on about missing dependencies.

[ovirt-users] encrypted GENEVE traffic

2019-12-11 Thread Pavel Nakonechnyi
Dear oVirt Community,

From my understanding oVirt does not support Open vSwitch IPSEC tunneling for
GENEVE traffic (which is described on pages
http://docs.openvswitch.org/en/latest/howto/ipsec/ and
http://docs.openvswitch.org/en/latest/tutorials/ipsec/).

Are there plans to introduce such support? (or explicitly not to..)

Is it possible to somehow manually configure such tunneling for existing
virtual networks? (even in a limited way)

Alternatively, is it possible to deploy oVirt on top of the tunneled (i.e. via
VXLAN, IPSec) interfaces? This will allow to encrypt all management traffic.

Such requirement arises when using oVirt deployment on third-party premises
with untrusted network.

Thank in advance for any clarifications. :)

Is there a way to get around this?
Downgrade katello-host-tools? -> is this OK for oVirt?

Should be ok on oVirt side to downgrade katello-host-tools.

I downgraded katello-host-tools from 3.5 to 3.3, seems to work.

[ovirt-users] Cannot forward traffic through VXLAN

2019-12-11 Thread k . betsis
Hi all

I have a VM network created with some hosts and I have included a vyos router
acting as a Layer 2 extension to another hypervisor through VXLAN.

I can see traffic reaching VMs from the other hypervisor to the ovirt hosted
VMs.
I can see traffic leaving the VMs hosted on the ovirt hypervisor.
However, i do not see return traffic reaching the vyos VXLAN hosted on ovirt.

I believe the VM network drops return traffic based on the destination MAC
address.

However, i have created the VM Network with security disabled.

Can you please assist on how to troubleshoot?

Hi Fred,

The locale is en_US. I never changed this whatsoever. Manually modifying
the locale in the URL doesn't seem to solve anything. i.e:
https://foo.bar/ovirt-engine/webadmin/?locale=de_DE#volumes  or nl_NL

I'll be opening a bug. Thank you!

Any workaround for now?

Hi,
Are you using gluster storage? If yes then can you please check whether
"Gluster Service" is enabled in your Cluster or not?

[ovirt-users] Re: katello-host-tools-3.5.1 and Red Hat Satellite 6.4

2019-12-11 Thread Staniforth, Paul
Hello Matthias,

The oVirt hosts need to be registered in redhat satellite as a content host and
the satellite host will need to have the centos and oVirt yum repositories
added so they can create a content view. The first step I would do is ask
whoever manages your satellite server if they are managing any Centos hosts.

Subject: [ovirt-users] katello-host-tools-3.5.1 and Red Hat Satellite 6.4

Hi,

I'm trying to register hosts running CentOS 7.6 and oVirt 4.3.5 to a Red
Hat Satellite 6.4 server. The oVirt hosts have katello-host-tools-3.5.1
packages from oVirt repos, which seem to be too new for the Red Hat
Satellite 6.4 server, Satellite says:

Errata:
Could not calculate errata status, ensure host is registered and the
katello-host-tools package is installed

Is there a way to get around this?
Downgrade katello-host-tools? -> is this OK for oVirt?
Upgrade Red Hat Satellite? -> server not under my control...
Is there a compatibility matrix for katello-host-tools and Red Hat
Satellite versions?

I'm new to this topic

thx
Matthias

2019-12-11 Thread Valentin Bajrami
Hi Fred,

Forgot to mention that I did this already. Downgraded firefox to an
older version from 70 to version 66. Didn't help. Tried chrome browser
and yet no success. On another environment, the same version of
ovirt-engine version seems not to be affected. ui.log and engine.log do
not seem to show anything useful afaik.

[ovirt-users] Re: Cannot Increase Hosted Engine VM Memory

2019-12-11 Thread Serhiy Morhun
Hello, did anyone find a resolution for this issue? I'm having exactly the
same problem:

Hosted Engine VM is running with 5344MB of RAM, when trying to increase to
8192 it would not accept the change because the difference is not divisible
by 256.
When trying to increase to 8160 the change is accepted but log shows
"Hotset memory: changed the amount of memory on VM HostedEngine from 5344
to 5344" at the same time amount of guaranteed memory does increase to 8160
which, in turn, starts generating error messages that VM does not have all
the guaranteed RAM.

I am new to OVN / OpenVSwitch too. :)

What helped me to begin with is capturing traffic on "ovirtmgmnt" interface
using tcpdump and looking into it for packets related to data exchange between
VMs over virtual network. I found communications over UDP:6081, which were fine
by themselves. However, this helped to craft more targeted search requests
which lead me to this discussion:
https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/PVJJPK7MQOFLXJEUUWYDBQGJD3332ALF/

Some suggestions there were helpful to at least become slightly more familiar
with how the things work.

Anyway, lack of documentation on this matter (I know that there are high-level
old docs) does not help to resolve such cases.
