[ovirt-users] HostedEngine Upgrade and Rollback

2020-02-26 Thread jrbdeguzman05
Hi Everyone,

Our HostedEngine is previously running in version 4.3.7 then updated it to
4.3.8. Before the update, we did a full backup of the HE.
After a successful update, we're testing to roll it back to the previous
backup. The cluster setting has been rolled back but the Hosted version is
still 4.3.8.

Is there a best way to rollback a HostedEngine after a successful minor update?
I've read somewhere that if an upgrade / update is unsuccessful, HostedEngine
will be rolled back to the previous version automatically.

Thanks in advance.

Ah ah! I forgot this thing of the port security again
Putting the Vms on a port security disabled OVN network they are able to
ping each other both when on same host and on hosts sitting in different
physical datacenters

Is it possible to change to disabled an existing OVN network with port
security enabled?
It seems all is greyed out when editing

Thanks. You already told me this in the past

If OVN would be unhappy, there would be an hint in
/var/log/openvswitch/*.log .
If the VMs get an IP address via DHCP, OVN should be fine.
In this case we have to check if we blocked by traffic in an unintended way.

If Windows in an oVirt VM, what is the type of the virtual NIC?
Maybe using the e1000 or rtl8139 as type of the virtual NIC helps until the
VirtIO drivers are ins

Has anyone see this before?

Hi Ritesh,

I would try backing up database and trying to restore on 4.3 engine though
would expect issues you might need to clean it first.
Downgrade is definitely not something easily possible.

[ovirt-users] Storage performance comparison (gluster vs FC)

2020-02-26 Thread Rik Theys
Hi,

We currently use oVirt on two hosts that connect to a shared storage
using SAS. In oVirt this is a "FC" storage domain. Since the warrantly
on the storage box is ending, we are looking at alternatives.

One of the options would be to use gluster and use a "hyperconverged"
setup where compute and gluster are on the same hosts. We would probably
end up with 3 hosts and a "replica 3 arbiter 1" gluster volume. (Or is
another volume type more recommended for this type of setup?)

I was wondering what the expected performance would be of this type of
setup compared to a shared storage over FC. I expect the I/O latency of
gluster to be much higher than the latency for the SAS connected storage
box? Has anybody compared these storage setups?

Regards,

Rik

[ovirt-users] Re: Huge increase of CPU load on hosted engine VM after upgrade to 4.3.8 and cluster compatibility version

2020-02-26 Thread Florian Schmid
Good afternoon,

after rebooting all the VMs, the CPU load of the engine is ok now.

I think this high CPU usage is coming from this new feature, that you see on a
VM with orange triangle, what will be changed after power cycle.
Actually, this is a nice feature, but it brings down an engine, when all VMs
need a reboot. After an upgrade for example.

Is there a possibility to avoid this? How should I upgrade an oVirt environment
with 1000s of VMs? The engine would be unusable.

cluster compatibility version. After about 2 hours, the CPU load was as low as
before.
The time to load the VM UI takes a little bit more time, but I think this is
also normal, because all VMs still have the orange triangle and need a reboot.

Sorry for the false positive, but I was really afraid about the high load.

Subject: [ovirt-users] Huge increase of CPU load on hosted engine VM after
upgrade to 4.3.8 and cluster compatibility version
Caution External Mail: Do not click any links or open any attachments unless

Hi,

I have upgraded yesterday one of our ovirt environments from 4.2.8 to 4.3.8.
We have a hosted engine, 25 hosts and about 150 VMs running there.

After upgrading the cluster compatibility version from 4.2 to 4.3, I have seen
a huge increase of CPU load on the engine VM.
The engine had 4 cores (16GB mem) and never had load issues, but after the
upgrade, the system has a load of 6 and more. I have increased the CPUs to 8,
because working in the UI was impossible.

I have noticed, that the load always increase, when I load the VM UI tab, where
now all VMs have the orange triangle with pending changes: Custom compatibility
version

The problem I have, is, that I can't reboot now all VMs, maybe in the next 3 or
4 weeks.
Working now with the UI is quite problematic, because of the slowness.

The engine VM was already rebooted, but didn't solve the problem.

What logs do you need and is there a workaround available? I have some more
oVirt environments to upgrade, all with even more VMs.

[ovirt-users] oVirt 4.3.8 spice console not working after vm migration

2020-02-26 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I'm registering problems with spice console session that remains stuck and
not working after vm migration.
Tried with 7.6 and 8.1 based virtual machines.
The client is an updated Fedora 31 system.
Using lsof -Pp pid command I don't see any tcp sessione opened

Making the same when session is connected before migration:

remote-vi 8013 g.cecchi 21u IPv4 243582 0t0
 TCP localhost.localdomain:35218->10.4.192.32:5902 (ESTABLISHED)
remote-vi 8013 g.cecchi 22u IPv4 248960 0t0
 TCP localhost.localdomain:35226->10.4.192.32:5902 (ESTABLISHED)
remote-vi 8013 g.cecchi 23u IPv4 248961 0t0
 TCP localhost.localdomain:35228->10.4.192.32:5902 (ESTABLISHED)
remote-vi 8013 g.cecchi 24u IPv4 248962 0t0
 TCP localhost.localdomain:35230->10.4.192.32:5902 (ESTABLISHED)

Right after migration I see only the close wait of the previous but not a
new one with the ip of the destination host:
remote-vi 8013 g.cecchi 21u IPv4 243582 0t0
 TCP localhost.localdomain:35218->10.4.192.32:5902 (CLOSE_WAIT)

And after a few seconds none.
Also, closing the blocked spice window doesn't work: it becomes gray with
in the middle "Waiting for display 1..." and I have to "kill -9 the
remote-viewer process.

Strangely the reverse works. After force closing spice console and
connecting to the remote and making migrate reverse, the spice console
session keeps working...
The hosts have same versions of components:

OS Version: RHEL - 7 - 7.1908.0.el7.centos
OS Description: CentOS Linux 7 (Core)
Kernel Version: 3.10.0 - 1062.12.1.el7.x86_64
KVM Version: 2.12.0 - 33.1.el7_7.4
LIBVIRT Version: libvirt-4.5.0-23.el7_7.5
VDSM Version: vdsm-4.30.40-1.el7
SPICE Version: 0.14.0 - 7.el7

Open vSwitch Version: openvswitch-2.11.0-4.el7
Kernel Features: PTI: 1, IBRS: 0, RETP: 1, SSBD: 3

What else can I check?

On Fedora I have virt-viewer-8.0-3.fc31.x86_64

[ovirt-users] oVirt 4.3.8 ovn vms doesn't ping

2020-02-26 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I have an environment with oVirt 4.3.8.
All seems ok from a configuration point of view, but if I use OVN based
interfaces on two VMs, they are not able to ping, both if I put them on the
same host and if I put on different hosts.
At this point they are both running on the same host and their only vnic is
on ovn172 network (defined as 192.168.172.0/24).
I have this

manager
# ovn-nbctl show
switch fc2fc4e8-ff71-4ec3-ba03-536a870cd483
(ovirt-ovn192-1e252228-ade7-47c8-acda-5209be358fcf)
switch 87012fa6-ffaa-4fb0-bd91-b3eb7c0a2fc1
(ovirt-ovn193-d43a7928-0dc8-49d3-8755-5d766dff821a)
port 8141047d-10c0-41f6-bedc-130552a115ef
addresses: ["00:1a:4a:17:01:54 dynamic"]
port 90559419-cb8e-45ae-ad61-6c16c4aff598
addresses: ["00:1a:4a:17:01:52 dynamic"]
port b3db190f-086a-4c79-99a0-77f811f66c80
addresses: ["00:1a:4a:17:01:53 dynamic"]
switch 9e77163a-c4e4-4abf-a554-0388e6b5e4ce
(ovirt-ovn172-4ac7ba24-aad5-432d-b1d2-672eaeea7d63)
port 3641cae4-18df-4fba-a2bd-7b0c60a87162
addresses: ["00:1a:4a:19:01:59 dynamic"]
port aaddc425-3a38-49bf-bfc7-9eaeab82906e
addresses: ["00:1a:4a:19:01:58 dynamic"]

The two macs correspond to what I see for VMs in web admin gui and at os
level of the two VMs.

On the host where VMs are running I have:
# ovs-vsctl show
f1a41e9c-16fb-4aa2-a386-2f366ade4d3c
Bridge br-int
fail_mode: secure
Port "ovn-b8872a-0"
Interface "ovn-b8872a-0"
type: geneve
options: {csum="true", key=flow, remote_ip="10.4.192.34"}
Port br-int
Interface br-int
type: internal
Port "vnet0"
Interface "vnet0"
Port "ovn-1dce5b-0"
Interface "ovn-1dce5b-0"
type: geneve
options: {csum="true", key=flow, remote_ip="10.4.192.32"}
Port "vnet1"
Interface "vnet1"
ovs_version: "2.11.0"

So apparently I see the vnet0 and vnet1 ports associated with the two VMs
How can I check more in depth the reason why they don't ping?
Both VMs are CentOS 8.1 but I don't know if it is relevant.

Thanks,
Gianluca
