[ovirt-users] Re: oVirt hosted engine install error: Failed to verify Power Management configuration

2020-05-22 Thread Joseph Goldman
What version of ovirt are you trying to install? It looks like it can't
create the management network and at a quick thought, I believe 4.4
requires CentOS 8 and so the networking commands may be different hence the
failure.

Try 4.3. if you are trying 4.3 already, maybe try with the ovirt node iso
found on the website.

The host power config shouldn't matter too much I believe that should fail
silently as none of my nodes have that properly configured anyways.

Usually,

There should be some indicator why this has happened.
Can you check the engine's log when this happens ?

I hate it when I have to say: me too.

BUT during test week I think Simone had the same problem and did a
/usr/sbin/ovirt-hosted-engine-cleanup?? and then you can retry the deply
from the wizard.
To recapitulate: Follow the HCI cockpit wizard until you get the error
then open a terminal and cleanup and then retry the deployment. It will
succeed. Did this yesterday and it worked.
Even tried to run cleanup before starting the wizard but thats a no success.

[ovirt-users] Re: 4.4 HCI Install Failure - Missing /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem

2020-05-22 Thread Stephen Panicho
The issue is the "Drop vdsm config statements" task from
/usr/share/ansible/roles/ovirt.hosted_engine_setup/tasks/initial_clean.yml

I'm not sure how those config statements got there in the first place...
maybe a scriptlet from a vdsm rpm install? Either way, the task removes the
following section from the bottom of /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf, causing it
to look for the default ca_file, /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem.

## beginning of configuration section by vdsm-4.40.0
auth_unix_rw="sasl"
ca_file="/etc/pki/vdsm/certs/cacert.pem"
cert_file="/etc/pki/vdsm/certs/vdsmcert.pem"
host_uuid="9def7285-9ed9-4a94-8a7d-ed1f05a9a224"
keepalive_interval=-1
key_file="/etc/pki/vdsm/keys/vdsmkey.pem"
## end of configuration section by vdsm-4.40.0

If I re-add this section to my bootstrap node's libvirtd.conf, I can start
the libvirtd service again. I'll try to comment out the "Drop vdsm config
statements" task from the playbook and see if I can proceed.

As I wrote, it happens sometime that the storage domains are marked as up,
but actually they are not (the related /rhev/data-center/mnt/... filesystem
not mounted)

It happened to me several times, only when restarting from a crash (not
always though) and only in single host configurations.
Both in NFS config (not supported actually) and in Gluster config (supposed
to be supported).

This is probably the side effect of a previous error so self._listener is
None but i'm pretty sure that something failed before trying to initialize
it.

In order to have a full operational environment you will need (they depend
on each other):
1. Engine is up and healthy
2. Master storage domain is up
3.  Datacenter is up
4. A host is selected for SPM
5. The storage domains for the VM are up
6. At least one Host in the cluster is up and running (usually that's the
node  in step 4)

[ovirt-users] Re: 4.4 HCI Install Failure - Missing /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem

2020-05-22 Thread Stephen Panicho
Hey Marcin. There aren't any logs for those services as they haven't been
started yet. This failure happens very early in the deploy, just after the
page where you configure the engine VM settings.

Unfortunately, I can't try a redeploy on the same node because libvirtd is
now in a bad state and can't come up at all. I now get the following error
once we get past the Gluster Wizard and move on the the Hosted Engine
Deploy:
"libvirt is not running! Please ensure it is running before starting the
wizard, so system capabilities can be queried."

I'll sift through the ansible to see what it changed and report back. But
I'd still like to get past this /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem issue.

Actually at least one time last week I had a situation where after a crash
of a single host environment with 4.3.9 and gluster on host itself, all 3
gluster storage domains resulted active but actually only the engine rhev
mount point was up and not the other 3 configured
Something like this:
/rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/ovirtst.mydomai.storage:_engine

While for the other 3 storage domains I only had the gluster brick active
but not the filesystem mounted.
In web admin gui all the storage domains was marked as active and as
soon as I powered on the first VM the operation went into error of course
and only at that time the 3 storage domains were marked as down...
>From the web admin gui I was able to then activate them and start VMs.
I had no time to investigate more and so opening a bug for that...
The problem is that in my opinion the datacenter was marked as up too, so
your check would not be of great meaning.
In my opinion you could crosscheck also storage domains number with
expected mount points of type /rhev/data-center/mnt/...

can someone layout what this issue is all about or point me in the right
direction? i have been battling ith this for 2 days now, without any clue on
what it is about.

I took a much closer look at the examples yesterday and there are 2 of
the 3 things I need already there:

1) test_connection.py -- make sure the engine is up
2) [ get list of total and attached storage domains ]
3) start_vm.pl -- start a VM (by name, it looks like)

So really it's only #2 that is missing. There is a show_summary.py in
there, but that doesn't give me *all* the code I need to piece together
(but I suspect it's close to what I need as I was calling the 'summary'
ovirt-shell api to get the info I needed before). I suspect I just need
to pull apart the api.summary.storage_domains class to figure out what I
need. Clearly there is a 'total', so I just need to figure out 'up',
and it looks like I might be able to rewrite my script. Python... EWW.

FTR: I don't think I need to check that the datacenter status is up; I
added that in not really understanding the changes between 4.1 and 4.3.
The issue is that the storage domain status isn't initialized to 'down'
when the engine first comes up so my script was testing that and seeing
all domains up when they really weren't.

suspend/resume _may_ work. I would suggest to try that first:)

It looks like I am unable to create snapshot if vm is in stateless

Is it RFE worth problem?

[ovirt-users] searching in manager

Hi,

oVirt 4.3.9.4-1.el7

I am trying to search a vms which has storage domain other than
RHEV-SSDStorage so I entered this search string in Manager in Compute /
Virtual Machines search form.

Storage != "RHEV-SSDStorage"

but it looks like all vms are listed.

When I try...

Storage = "RHEV-SSDStorage"

...it works like expected and only right vms are listed.

Also combinations seems does not work.

Storage = "RHEV-SlowStorage" or Storage = "RHEV-MidStorage"

...returns 0 rows.

Should it work?

Can you please share journalctl logs for vdsmd and supervdsmd?

From a fresh CentOS 8.1 minimal install, I've installed the following:
- The 4.4 repo
- cockpit
- ovirt-cockpit-dashboard
- vdsm-gluster (providing glusterfs-server and allowing the Gluster
Wizard to complete)

- gluster-ansible-roles (only on the bootstrap host)

I'm not exactly sure what that initial bit of the playbook does.
Comparing the bootstrap node with another that has yet to be touched,
both /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf and /etc/sysconfig/libvirtd are the
same on both hosts. Yet the bootstrap host can no longer start
libvirtd while the other host can. Neither host has the
/etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem file.

Please let me know if I can provide any more information. Thanks!

According to https://access.redhat.com/solutions/3251541 (you can view it with
a free red hat developer subscription) it could be duplicate entries in
'dwh_history_timekeeping' table.

What is the output of:
/usr/share/ovirt-engine/dbscripts/engine-psql.sh -c "SELECT * FROM
dwh_history_timekeeping;"
