[ovirt-users] Re: oVirt Change hosts to FQDN

2020-09-28 Thread Jeremey Wise
I used pgadmin Connected to oVirt-engine VM:

username: engine
password: 'cat /etc/ovirt-engine/engine.conf.d/10-setup-database.conf
database: engine

Schemas-> Tables -> 153 tables (which look like what we find in oVirt UI...

Searched around.. no entry where it has 172.16.100.102 or 103 to reflect
hosts in cluster that I could change to FQDN and restart engine and
 fixes issue :)

I will keep poking but if someone has done this before it would help.

I saw note about holiday.. and I wish all well. Just kind of stuck here where
I am afraid to move forward in building the stack with nodes left in limbo with
gluster / cluster. I just need to repair the host set to connect via IP vs DNS.

Any ideas.. or is this a wipe and rebuild of engine again?

[ovirt-users] Trouble with restoring hosted engine from backup

2020-09-28 Thread Siddharth Patil
Dear all,

I'm trying to restore hosted-engine from backup, but it fails with the
following error message:

[ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"changed": false, "msg":
"\"Cluster name cannot be 'Default'. This is a reserved name for the
default DataCenter. Please choose\" \" another name for the cluster\""}

My DataCenter is called Primary and Cluster is called Default. I have two
hosts node01 and node02, with shared storage through NFS. I'm running the
restore on node02.

I can restore successfully if I change the Cluster name, but then I cannot
move node02 to the default cluster, or move node01 to the new cluster, as I
cannot shut down the VMs currently running on node01.

Please help!

Regards,
Siddharth

[ovirt-users] Re: Replica Question

2020-09-28 Thread C Williams
Hello,

More questions on this -- since I have 5 servers . Could the following work
? Each server has (1) 3TB RAID 6 partition that I want to use for
contiguous storage.

Mountpoint for RAID 6 partition (3TB) /brick

Server A: VOL1 - Brick 1 directory
 /brick/brick1 (VOL1 Data brick)

Server B: VOL1 - Brick 2 + VOL2 - Brick 3 directory /brick/brick2
(VOL1 Data brick) /brick/brick3 (VOL2 Arbitrator brick)
Server C: VOL1 - Brick 3 directory
/brick/brick3 (VOL1 Data brick)
Server D: VOL2 - Brick 1 directory
/brick/brick1 (VOL2 Data brick)
Server E VOL2 - Brick 2 directory
/brick/brick2 (VOL2 Data brick)

Questions about this configuration
1. Is it safe to use a mount point 2 times ?
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_gluster_storage/3.3/html/administration_guide/formatting_and_mounting_bricks#idm139907083110432
says "Ensure that no more than one brick is created from a single mount."
In my example I have VOL1 and VOL2 sharing the mountpoint /brick on Server B

2. Could I start a standard replica3 (VOL1) with 3 data bricks and add 2
additional data bricks plus 1 arbitrator brick (VOL2) to create a
 distributed-replicate cluster providing ~6TB of contiguous storage ? .
By contiguous storage I mean that df -h would show ~6 TB disk space.

[ovirt-users] Re: Replica Question

2020-09-28 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
You can setup your bricks in such way , that each host has at least 1 brick.
For example:
Server A: VOL1 - Brick 1
Server B: VOL1 - Brick 2 + VOL 3 - Brick 3
Server C: VOL1 - Brick 3 + VOL 2 - Brick 2
Server D: VOL2 - brick 1

The most optimal is to find a small system/VM for being an arbiter and having a
'replica 3 arbiter 1' volume.

I have deployed replica 3s and know about replica 2 + arbiter -- but an

2020-09-28 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
You cannot have 2 IPs for 2 different FQDNs.
You have to use something like:

172.16.100.101 thor.penguinpages.local thor thorst

Fix your /etc/hosts or you should use DNS.

2020-09-28 Thread C Williams
Jayme,

Thank for getting back with me !

If I wanted to be wasteful with storage, could I start with an initial
replica 2 + arbiter and then add 2 bricks to the volume ? Could the arbiter
solve split-brains for 4 bricks ?

Thank You For Your Help !

2020-09-28 Thread Jayme
You can only do HCI in multiple's of 3. You could do a 3 server HCI setup
and add the other two servers as compute nodes or you could add a 6th
server and expand HCI across all 6

[ovirt-users] Replica Question

2020-09-28 Thread C Williams
Hello,

We recently received 5 servers. All have about 3 TB of storage.

I want to deploy an oVirt HCI using as much of my storage and compute
resources as possible.

Would oVirt support a "replica 5" HCI (Compute/Gluster) cluster ?

I have deployed replica 3s and know about replica 2 + arbiter -- but an
arbiter would not be applicable here -- since I have equal storage on all
of the planned bricks.

Thank You For Your Help !!

[ovirt-users] Re: Gluster Volumes - Correct Peer Connection

2020-09-28 Thread Gobinda Das
Hi Jeremey,
I think the problem is you have not created a "gluster logical network"
from ovirt manager. So when the bricks are listing because you have only
mgmt network it's mapping with that network
Could you please confirm whether you have Gluster logical network created
which maps with 10G nic? If not please create and check, it should solve
the issue.

I just noticed when HCI setup bult the gluster engine / data / vmstore

 interfaces / hosts.

But.. oVirt Engine is NOT referencing this.
it lists bricks as 1Gb "managment / host" interfaces. Is this a GUI
issue? I doubt this and how do I correct it?

Hi

1) trunk all the network including management, VM traffic subnets in both
ports and tag the management network as native
2) configure the bonds with active/backup with management IP while installing
the OS
3) proceed the hosted engine installation in the same management network
4) once hosted engine is up, add all hosts and create vm traffic network with
VLAN tags
