 Hi,
the reason might be that the bond had a required network connected to
it. If that is the case, by connecting the required network to proper
 interface
should make the host operational again.

 Ales

This can be found and changed in Compute -> Clusters -> $YourCluster ->
Logical Networks -> Manage Networks. The check box Require is the one.
Also when you are creating a new network, there is a Cluster side menu
which let's you choose if the network is required or not (true by default).

Hopefully this helps.

[ovirt-users] [security-updates] oVirt node

2021-03-01 Thread Thiago Linhares
Hello there,

I wonder whats the right approach to get security updates for ovirt nodes?
(installed using ovirt node iso image)

Eg.:
'sudo' package has a know vulnerability until version sudo-1.8.23-9.el7.x86_64.
When trying to update this package on a ovirt node, it would not.
Checking versionlock, I confirmed it is listed there:
# grep sudo /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/versionlock.list
0:libsss_sudo-1.16.4-37.el7_8.3.x86_64
0:sudo-1.8.23-9.el7.x86_64

Thanks!

I'm running 20.04.02 on the pi, which is using glusterfs 7.2. Guess I have to
compile from source then...

That's good to know.

Yeah latency, right... I already checked that and the latency is pretty
terrible as you said. The things is that can't really afford to put in another
machine. Might be able to do a NUC at somepoint at most (space heat energy).
The gluster share should also only be used for the hosted-engine (right now) as
I already have a freeNAS box handling the rest.

[ovirt-users] Re: How to enable nested virtualization

2021-03-01 Thread miguel . garcia
Already tried the instructions to enable nested virtualization on host as
described above including reboot.
Even got the following output from host
cat /sys/module/kvm_intel/parameters/nested
Y

But from vm trying to verify vm has enabled virtualization running command
sudo kvm-ok
expecting to get
INFO: /dev/kvm exists
KVM acceleration can be used

but instead get the following:
INFO: Your CPU does not support KVM extensions
KVM acceleration can NOT be used

I guess requires additional change so I tried to follow up. According
withdocumentation around this topic need to set nested virtualization in
vort-manager but only found how to do it in other patforms instead oVirt. Do
you have idea how to do it?

The issue here is that the device appears to be advertising itself as
ready when it responds to the SCSI Test Unit Ready command. However, it
is not actually able to handle IO sent to it. To make multipath stop
flapping, you can add

path_checker directio

to the devices configuration for this device. That will make multipath
send a read request to the device to determine if it is usable. This
should fail, meaning that the device will stay in the failed state.

As to why the device isn't able to handle IO, looking at the log
messages:

Never tried using a playbook to setup a Gluster cluster. Can't comment on that.
BTW, which distribution is used on the RPI? are you certain the RPI
and oVirt hosts have the same Gluster versions?

> Is the hosted-engine HA then? How about updates, is it retaining the config?

The Gluster takes care of the storage HA. The two oVirt nodes, if
setup correctly, will handle the oVirt HA.

> I do have a PI 4. Wouldn't that be alright for an arbiter node? Since it's
> just saving metadata. My nodes are connected via 10Gig btw

In general, In my experience Gluster is very sensitive to network
latency. The RPI, even the RPI4, has a lousy CPU and lousy network.
Given the fact that Gluster depends on the performance of the weakest
link in the chain, the 10GbE links between the nodes may go unused,
while the RPI will start throttling down...
If I were you, I'd get a mATX with a low end i3 or AMD CPU (even
second hand will do), connect a 10GbE link (ebay is your friend...),
and use it as an arbiter. (As an added bonus it can be part of the
oVirt HA cluster and even run a VM or two).

Looks ok to me. Please note that 'ovirt-hosted-engine-cleanup' is not
perfect - if in doubt, better reinstall the OS.

[ovirt-users] Re: Gluster volume engine stuck in healing with 1 unsynched entry & HostedEngine paused

2021-03-01 Thread souvaliotimaria
Hello again,

I am back with a brief description of the situation I am in, and questions
about the recovery.

oVirt environment: 4.3.5.2 Hyperconverged
GlusterFS: Replica 2 + Arbiter 1
GlusterFS volumes: data, engine, vmstore

The current situation is the following:

- The Cluster is in Global Maintenance.

- The volume engine is up with comment (in the Web GUI) : Up, unsynched
entries, needs healing.

- The VM HostedEngine is paused due to a storage I/O error (Web GUI) while the
output of virsh list --all command shows that the HostedEngine is running.

I tried to issue the gluster heal command (gluster volume heal engine) but
nothing changed.

I have the following questions:

1. Should I restart the glusterd service? Where from? Is it enough if the
glusterd is restarted on one host or should it be restarted on the other two as
well?

2. Should the node that was NonResponsive and came back, be rebooted or not? It
seems alright now and in good health.

3. Should the HostedEngine be restored with engine-backup or is it not
necessary?

4. Could the loss of the DNS server for the oVirt hosts lead to an unresponsive
host?
The nsswitch file on the ovirt hosts and engine, has the DNS defined as:
hosts: files dns myhostname

5. How can we recover/rectify the situation above?

Thanks for your help,
Maria Souvalioti

Is the hosted-engine HA then? How about updates, is it retaining the config?

I do have a PI 4. Wouldn't that be alright for an arbiter node? Since it's just
saving metadata. My nodes are connected via 10Gig btw

Please check/share all relevant logs: /var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine*/*
(including subdirs) and /var/log/vdsm/* from the host, and
/var/log/ovirt-engine/* from the engine vm (if you can access it).
Also please clarify relevant details about your env - names, name
resolution (dns or /etc/hosts), etc.

No, you should let 'hosted-engine --deploy' create it for you, on the
interface you supply.

This is a normal middle state of a node-zero hosted-engine deployment.

You should make sure name resolution works well. The deploy process
can partially help you with this, see the question about updating
/etc/hosts.

2021-03-01 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet
You should try to add an ovirt node 4.1  if you really want to stay on 4.1
:https://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-4.1/iso/ovirt-node-ng-installer-ovirt/4.1-2018012411/ovirt-node-ng-installer-ovirt-4.1-2018012411.iso
Whatever, you will never be able to upgrade from 4.1 to 4.4 because 4.4 is only
el8.

It's not possible to upgrade directly from 4.1 to 4.4, without going
through 4.2 and 4.3.

AFAIK, most people that want to do this hyper-upgrade do it by
installing a new setup and importing the existing storage. That's not
the same as an upgrade, so if you go that route, I suggest to learn
and test this on a test system first.

Good luck and best regards,
