Probably too late, but FIY, there's also an option to do it from command line
using ovirt-sdk [1]. You can use upload_disk example [2]. This is also very
use useful when you need to upload many images.

[ovirt-users] Re: Power failure makes cluster and hosted engine unusable

2021-03-30 Thread Vincent Royer
Seann,

If this happens again, try doing nothing (seriously) Each time I've had a
power failure, the engine takes a really long time to come back up. I
don't know if it's by design or what. Host logs are flooded with errors,
everything seemingly storage related. However, my Gluster setup is on fast
SSDs and gets back and running pretty much straight away. It takes maybe 5
minutes for the nodes to re-join and the volumes to show 'UP' with no
heals. However, it still takes the hosted-engine a good hour or two to
simmer down and finally start up.

Sometimes I try to help by restarting ha-broker and ha-agent, or plunking
in other random commands from the mess of documentation, but it seems to
sort itself out on its own time, regardless of my tinkering.

I wish I could get more insight into the process, but definitely, doing
nothing and waiting has been the most successful troubleshooting step I
have taken.

Cheers!

Command line.

I first did the import, then checked the image with 'qemu-img info' and
verified that the size was wrong and then copied, making sure to use the
same filename generated by the import.

[ovirt-users] Network issue

2021-03-30 Thread Valerio Luccio
I'm slowly getting things back up, but I ran into a perplexing network
problem.

I created a new vNIC profile in the engine web UI and attached it to the
hosted engine to test it, which in retrospect was not a good idea. I
realized that I needed to change something in the parameters of the
vNIC, but it won't let me do it because it's attached to the running
engine; it will not let me remove the NIC from the engine because it's
running. If I shut down the engine, how can I then change the
configuration of it ? Seems like a Catch 22 situation.

Thanks,

OK, so I cheated: I copied the image from backup to the current storage

OK, I had done that. I thought you meant that the image itself had to be

That's what I figured, I'll look at the log files to see if I spot anything. Is
there a way to do it from command line on the server ? Sometimes it's easier to
spot issues from command line.

In the VM edit dialog if you choose to Attach a disk the list contains
column with checkboxes denoted 'OS'. Alternatively if you use Create or
Edit action there are checkboxes on the right hand side of the dialog
and one of them is named 'Bootable'

I might have some more details, but I don't know what it means.

When I do 'qemu-img info' on the VM image in backup I get:

file format: raw
virtual size: 128 GiB (137438953472 bytes)
disk size: 128 GiB

When I do the same on the VM image that was copied to the new storage I get:

   file format: raw
virtual size: 128 GiB (137438953472 bytes)
   disk size: 4 KiB

Am I reading this wrong, or did something go wrong in the import ?

Sorry, where do you mark a disk to be bootable ? I didn't notice any such
option when loading the disk.

The chipset/firmware should be correct since this this is the same server where
the VM was working a week ago and I haven't modified the VM image.

This does not seem right. The whole idea behind disk upload is that you
can do that remotely from any machine that has access to the REST API.
If this is not working for you (but works when performed from the
server) you're probably missing the oVirt CA certificates in your
browser.

The VM is most likely misconfigured. Make sure the attached disk is
marked as bootable in web UI. Also verify that the chipset/firmware for
your VM or cluster is correct.

yes, you can use any CPU type supported by qemu. They may not work of course,

Could you provide more details/logs on storage not coming up? Also more
information about the current locks would be great, is there any procedure
you tried that did not work for cleaning those up?

I have spent the last 12 hours trying to get a functional hosted-engine

This could be a bug in the ansible role, did that happen during
"hosted-engine --deploy" or other part of the recovery guide? Provide logs
here as well please, its seems like a completely separate issue though.
