Please upgrade the engine to 4.3 and take a backup.
Direct upgrade from 4.3 to 4.5 should work fine but direct upgrade from 4.2
backup is not working.
As for the host, oVirt Node 4.5 is supposed to be compatible with ovirt
engine >= 4.2.

Looks like the suggested workaround is to downgrade the kernel. Easier said
than done when using the oVirt Node ISO minimal installs, the downgrade path is
more challenging.

It’s difficult to debug because as far as the engine and hosts involved are
concerned it was successful. It’s just the VM stops responding to pings etc
after migration and the console freezes exactly as described here.

I’m using oVirt 4.5.1 Cluster 4.7. I’ve even reinstalled oVirt Node on the
problem host still behaves the same. I’ve tried removing all VirtIO devices
from the VM, I’ve tried with lower CPU family profiles, I’ve tried with
different BIOS/UEFI settings.

In some cases the VM freezes moving away from the problem host as well which is
interesting.

Hi,

(PowerEdge M640). The third has different CPUs, more RAM, and slower
NICs. I also have a bunch of data domains some on the shared PERC
internal storage and others on an external iSCSI storage, all seems
configured correctly and all the hosts are operational.

I can migrate a VM back and forth from the first two blades without any
problem, I can migrate a VM to the third blade but when I migrate a VM
from the third blade to any of the other two the task terminate
successfully, the VM is marked as up on the target host but the VM
hangs, the console is frozen and the VM stops to respond to ping.

I have no clues about why this is happening and I'm looking for
suggestions about how to debug and hopefully fix this issue.

Thanks in advance

[ovirt-users] Re: HCI Deployment oVirt 4.5

2022-06-28 Thread Clint Boggio
Today I reloaded all three nodes with the 4.5.1 ovirt node appliance iso.
During the install I used the gui to bond the two 10gig interfaces using the
recommended naming convention. I prepped the nodes according to the
documentation and invoked the cockpit installation method from node1. The
gluster portion of the hyperconverged deployment went well. When the gluster
portion of the deployment was finished I proceeded to the hosted engine
deployment phase in the cockpit environment. The system immediately threw that
same interface error.

I did use classic bonding and not teaming. I'm trying to install hyperconverged
three node oVirt cluster with self hosted engine. I've done it before in the
4.3 world but not in the 4.4 or 4.5 world.

I'm using the cockpit method for deploying the cluster from the first node from
the documentation. Should I reload the nodes and create the bonds from the
nmcli command line instead of from the installation gui ?

[ovirt-users] Can't start VM because host has insufficient amount of CPU cores

2022-06-28 Thread Ramon Clematide
Hi

I just upgraded my oVirt installation from 4.4.10 to 4.5.1.2. The upgrade went
through without any errors and most things seem to work but i have one critical
problem now. Somehow it does not evaluate the correct number of CPU available
on the hypervisor and blocks the start of a VM (except for the engine). The
problem I only have on the hypervisor which has the engine deployed. I have
three hypervisors, but only one has the engine installed. This hypervisor is
also in a seperate cluster.

After the upgrade, on the hypervisor which has the engine installed, I can't
start a VM via the oVirt Manager. I can start the engine via "hosted-engine
--vm-start" but if I try to start any other VM it fails with this Error:

https://imgur.com/7lbGb8v

Operation Canceled
Error while executing action:

Razor:
Cannot run VM. There is no host that satisfies current scheduling constraints.
See below for details:
The host venge did not satisfy internal filter CPU because it has an
insufficient amount of CPU cores to run the VM.

I did not change any specs for the VM and even if I reduce the VM to only use 1
core it fails with the error above.

This are the specs of my hypervisor, it has 2 cores with 2 threads:

Did you use classic bonding and not teaming, correct?
What output from the "ip a" command? And "nmcli con show" command?
Also, if I remember correctly, the graphical workflow is not supported, at
least in the downstream product, RHV, for HCI deployment; possibly not so
tested in upstream oVirt too?
In fact at the landing page for RHV 4.4 (comprising 4.4-SP1, that matches
somehow oVirt 4.5.x):
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.4
there is only the command line based document for self-hosted engine
deployment

[ovirt-users] Upgrade from 4.2 directly to 4.5

2022-06-28 Thread Vinícius Ferrão via Users
Hello, I would like to know if I can do an oVirt upgrade directly from 4.2 to
4.5.

I don’t have a free host to upgrade the oVirt Node, so I was hoping that would
be possible to fire up a new engine (with restore-backup) on the old oVirt
Nodes and later on upgrade the hosts.

Is this possible?

Thank you.

Correct.

Which page were you following that was missing this?

It does appear in a few places (e.g. the upgrade guide), probably
missing in others.

The other gluster bricks created at install time don't have this problem.

[ovirt-users] HCI Deployment oVirt 4.5

2022-06-28 Thread Clint Boggio
Hello oVirt Team

I'm in the process of deploying a three-node oVirt hyperconverged platform and
from the cockpit interface of the deployment node I keep running into the same
error. The system finishes the gluster deployment phase (sometimes) and then
prompts to continue with the hosted engine deployment but then fails
immediately complaining about the naming convention of my network interfaces.
My network interfaces are 802.3ad bonds configured during the installation
process of each node using "bondx" naming convention consistent across all
three nodes. Any wisdom or pointers would be appreciated.

[ovirt-users] Regarding oVirt VM Hosting

2022-06-28 Thread Nishith Vyas
Dear Users,

I've initiated this mail communication for the very first time. Recently,
I've started using *oVirt-Engine* & *oVirt-Node* in my lab as I want to
host a openstack kind of infrastructure hosting environment for my company.

Prior to that, I'd like to get information on the below listed statement.

--
I've created data domain, iso domain & export domain over the NFS.

Now, my VM is created by loading CentOS 7.9 ISO from "iso domain" & storing
"VM" data on "data domain".

Here, I'm just curious to know about the NFS efficiency to manage VMs
because the OS boots/loads from remote "NFS Data Domain", not from the
local storage (i.e. oVirt-Node)

Which is more efficient? NFS or iSCSI for VM Hosting?

[ovirt-users] Re: VMs missing following Import of Storage Domain

I can think of at least three reasons:
1. There was no "OVF update" since those VMs were created but if you
kept the OvfUpdateIntervalInMinutes with its default value of 60 min
and the missing VMs were not created in about the same time then it's
less likely
2. ovirt-engine failed to write the OVFs, that's also less likely but
then you should see an error in engine.log
3. ovirt-engine didn't detect a change thus didn't try to write the
OVFs of these VMs

I'd do the following:
1. Check the output of "engine=# select vm_guid, ovf_generation from
vm_ovf_generations ;" to see if the missing VMs are written there
(they probably are) and what's their "ovf generation"
2. Update some of those VMs
3. Check that their new generation is higher than the one you saw in
(1) with: "engine=# select vm_name, db_generation from vm_static;"
4. Trigger Storage Domain -> Update OVFs
5. Check the OVF store to see if those VMs are now there
