[ovirt-users] Issue with yum update

2018-12-21 Thread Alex Bartonek
It could be my repos setup, but not sure. CentOS is the distro.

Running yum update, I get the following error and nothing updates:

Transaction check error:
file /usr/lib64/collectd/write_http.so conflicts between attempted installs
of collectd-write_http-5.8.1-1.el7.x86_64 and collectd-5.8.1-1.el7.x86_64
file /usr/lib64/collectd/disk.so conflicts between attempted installs of
collectd-disk-5.8.1-1.el7.x86_64 and collectd-5.8.1-1.el7.x86_64

Anything I can check out to resolve this?

Thanks

Alex

2018-05-13 Thread Alex Bartonek
Strange.. None of my VMs have the option of Exporting to either OVA or Export
Domain. It is grey'd out. It would be awesome if I could do that with them
running.

oVirt has proven itself a very very valuable product in my homelab. Tickled
to death to run this thing with a few forward facing sites, hosting my own
cloud etc.

[ovirt-users] Copying/Cloning a VM to another server

2018-05-13 Thread Alex Bartonek
Just trying to make sure there isnt an easier way to do what I'm doing.
I dont have an HA environment in my homelab. I have 3 VM's and I wanted to
copy them to my backup r710 which runs oVirt 4.2. I basically shut down my VM,
exported it to an export domain on my primary r710. Then detached the export
domain on the primary. On my "standby" r710 I imported the export domain from
the primary r710, attached, activated and imported the VM. Worked as expected.

I'm assuming this is the correct way to do so. I've tried Export to OVA but
that didnt work like I wanted and I didnt care to keep messing with that option.

Thanks

I did configure the host to manage the firewall. Just to make sure, I deleted
the host, recreated and still had the issue. I ended up making the firewall
rule manually which took care of it. Never had to do that before.

Ok.. I must have tanked it on install with the firewall. The firewall is
blocking port 5900. This is on CentOS 7. If I flush the rules, it works.

Unable to connect to the graphic console is what the error says. Here is the
.vv file other than the cert stuff in it:

[virt-viewer]
type=spice
host=192.168.1.83
port=-1
password=
# Password is valid for 120 seconds.
delete-this-file=1
fullscreen=0
title=Win_7_32bit:%d
toggle-fullscreen=shift+f11
release-cursor=shift+f12
tls-port=5900
enable-smartcard=0
enable-usb-autoshare=1
usb-filter=-1,-1,-1,-1,0
tls-ciphers=DEFAULT
host-subject=O=williams.com,CN=randb.williams.com

Port 5900 is listening by IP on the server, so that looks correct. I shut the
firewall off just in case it was the issue..no go.

[ovirt-users] Unable to connect to the graphic server

2018-02-13 Thread Alex Bartonek
I've built and rebuilt about 4 oVirt servers. Consider myself pretty good at
this. LOL.
So I am setting up a oVirt server for a friend on his r710. CentOS 7, ovirt
4.2. /etc/hosts has the correct IP and FQDN setup.

When I build a VM and try to open a console session via SPICE I am unable to
connect to the graphic server. I'm connecting from a Windows 10 box. Using
virt-manager to connect.

I've googled and I just cant seem to find any resolution to this. Now, I did
build the server on my home network but the subnet its on is the same..
internal 192.168.1.xxx. The web interface is accessible also.

Any hints as to what else I can check?

Thanks!

[ovirt-users] Problem creating NFS storage domain

2018-02-04 Thread Alex Bartonek
Running oVirt 4.2.
Creating a NFS storage domain, creates but fails with: Failed with error

Now, this is a new install of openmediavault. I can ssh from the oVirt server,
access the NFS share (its mounted) and can create files etc. I'm sure its

[ovirt-users] Basic parts for rebuilding ovirt server

2018-01-27 Thread Alex Bartonek
Kinda pleased with the way the restore went. Sucks that my backups weren't
working like I thought.

I did an engine backup, complete about a day before I lost data.

Are these the basic steps:

1. Reinstall CentOS (whatever OS you used)
2. Update all packages
3. Install ovirt
4. Engine restore
5. Engine setup

That gets you a basic ovirt server with your previous settings.

My problem:
Storage domains are gone along with the vms. How do I remove the VM's and
storage domains that way I can recreate them?

Thanks

Looks like the HD went bad. I was able to restore from backups which were...20
days old. :-/ Nice. Looks like my backup process hd issues and I never
realized it.

Got it all sorted out.

[ovirt-users] Bad hd? or?

2018-01-26 Thread Alex Bartonek
I'm stumped.

I powercycled my server on accident and I cannot mount my data drive. I was
getting buffer i/o errors but finally was able to boot up by disabling
automount in fstab.

I cannot mount my ext4 drive. Anything else I can check?

Re: [ovirt-users] How to import OVA from oVirt 4.2 to oVirt 4.2

2017-12-29 Thread Alex Bartonek
I used clonezilla and built the VM that way. If you get the OVA thing working,
cool.. but in the meantime, here's how I did it using Clonezilla.

geez... yes, you were correct. I added the description to the VM not the

Sorry about that. That took care of it. Simple. Very cool!! Thank you very

[ovirt-users] Exporting/Copying VM to another oVirt server

2017-12-28 Thread Alex Bartonek
After the success of getting my VM's working on my test server, I decided to
wipe out another server I had and wanted to move my VMs to it. I tried the
"Export" as ova and it seems to work but in the Tasks its red:

"Exporting VM CentOS7 as an OVA to /ovirt_data/CentOS7.ova on Host junkHost".

The .ova is never created. Is there another way to do this? Both servers are
running 4.2.

Googling hasnt helped me find a solution yet...___

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt 4.2 + Win 7 64bit VM + Blue Iris no workie

2017-12-27 Thread Alex Bartonek
Got it working!!! Install Win 7 x86, NOT 64bit. Install Blue Iris. I only
installed ethernet drivers and vid card drivers. I'll install the rest but am
assuming it should work fine. Bye bye XenServer!

2017-12-27 Thread Alex Bartonek
Replying to myself..lol. Figured you guys would also be interested or someone
else who would like Blue Iris working.

One of the things I read was the "cpu type". I'm running this on a HP DL360 g5
with dual Xeon 5160's. That CPU "Woodcrest" isnt listed, so I specified
"Conroe". Maybe thats the cause, I'm not sure. On my other DL360 g5, it also
has dual 5160's but running XenServer. Blue Iris works fine under that setup
with the same Win 7 64bit install.

So now, IMO, it goes back to drivers that I have installed in the VM I believe.
I'm going to build another Win 7 64 bit VM but only install the NIC once the
VM boots in oVirt. Maybe something else is causing it to BSOD.

At any rate, I appreciate the replys from all of you. Thanks again.. I'll
reply if I find something useful.

Yea I'm going to have to find a way to run Blue Iris in Win 7. Zoneminder,
while free, just isn't as good.

Re: [ovirt-users] Assign external IP to VM

2017-12-26 Thread Alex Bartonek
basically, NIC 1 is internal network access to the VM via shell or whatever
protocol, vnc etc.
NIC 2 is the public facing IP. My webserver will access/will be accessed via
NIC 2.

Yes, enabled io-mmu. I'm not sure if what I'm doing is right though. So if
there is a better way of accomplishing what I'm trying to do, send me to some
reading material so I dont take up too much of everyone's time. I'll read up
on it. If its a simple do-this-and-that, then I'll try it.

2017-12-26 Thread Alex Bartonek
This is a first time install of 4.2, first time build of a Win 7 64bit vm,
first time oVirt user. :-)
Blue Iris works fine under XenServer but thats what I'm migrating away from.

VM is nothing special. 4gb ram assigned, OS set as "Win 7 64 bit", 1 virtual
cpu everything else is default. Virtio drivers installed after first boot.
I'll re-install Win 7 64bit, have it take a dump and then post the dump details.

[ovirt-users] Assign external IP to VM

2017-12-26 Thread Alex Bartonek
Need some guidance on this one.

Config:
1U with 2 NICs.
NIC 1 plugged to local switch - gets local IP
NIC 2 plugged direct to cable modem - need to set IP inside VM to public static
IP
VM will be CentOS, already know how to configure NIC once I can get the 2nd NIC
assigned to it.

Do I use PCI passthru? Or where do I start to get this configured? I did
setup NIC 2 under Network --> Networks. Created a NIC called "external_NIC".
External NIC has description and then I configured 2 DNS servers which are
given to me by the ISP.

Under Compute --> Hosts --> --> Network Interfaces (I have both NICs
showing as up) --> Setup Host Networks ---> NIC 2 is the interface -->
Assignment of Logical networks is "external_NIC".

I was assuming I was done, so I go to my VM add NIC 2, click run and I see:

Cannot run VM. There is no host that satisfies current scheduling constraints.
See below for details:

- The host did not satisfy internal filter Network because there are
no free virtual functions which are suitable for virtual nic(s) nic2. A virtual
function is considered as suitable if the VF's configuration of its physical
function contains the virtual nic's network/network label.

Need guidance on what to read to get this working.

Re: [ovirt-users] Issue starting VM using run-once

2017-12-25 Thread Alex Bartonek
Nevermind. Its because I had VirtualBox running which had a 64bit OS VM which
requires VT-x extensions. oVirt and VB both cannot use it at the same time.
All is well once I disable the extension in the VB VM. It'll be migrated to
oVirt.

[ovirt-users] Issue starting VM using run-once

2017-12-25 Thread Alex Bartonek
Merry Christmas to you all..

New install of oVirt 4.2 on a CentOS 7 system. Watched a vid and read some
stuff on the site regarding installation/config. I have it installed using
this vid:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pasz-lv3gTY

Single server host.

When I go to run my Windows 7 64bit VM and set it to attach a cd ISO image, as
soon as I do a run-once a few seconds later I see this error:
"Failed to run VM Windows_7 in run-once mode".

dmesg doesnt show anything..where else can I check ?
