[ovirt-users] Re: Host install failed - cannot set maintenance or remove

2018-05-09 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi Callum,

For some reason, when installing the host the management network wasn't
attached to the host.
Since the management network is required, due to
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1570388
 the host stuck in non
operational <-> activating states.

You have two options -

1. Updating ovirt to ovirt-engine-4.2.3.4 and re-installing the host.

2. Trying to understand why the management network wasn't attached to the
host at the first place.

If you choose option 2 please attach the full engine logs (engine.log,
server.log) and vdsm logs (vdsm.log, supervdsm.log).

Thanks,
Alona.

Re: [ovirt-users] adding a host

2018-05-07 Thread Alona Kaplan
First restart the engine. Then try to change the required network to be
non-required and click on RefreshCapabilities on the host.
It should move the host to active state without the need to remove it.

If it doesn't help, please attach your full engine.log and server.log.

Anyway please update your ovirt to version 4.2.3.4, the bug was fixed there.

Thanks,
Alona.

2018-03-14 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi,

I posted a patch with a proposed fix (https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/88999/).
Please open a bug so you can track the version the fix is included in.

Please attach to the bug vdsm.log, engine.log and server.log (If you had
several attempts to reinstall/remove-add the host please add the logs with
all the attempts).

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-engine add host failed

2018-03-14 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi,

Seems the communication with the host is slow and you get a timeout error.

Is there a chance you opened the SetupNetwoks dialog while installing the
host (it may slow down the host since it queries the host for lldp
information)?

Please try to re-install (or remove and re-add) the host (don't open the
setup network dialog during the installation).

More technically, there is a bug in the code -
Collecting and persisting the data from the host is done inside a
transaction.
Only the persisting should be done in a transaction.
According to the attached log seems the collection of the data from the
host finished successfully (was slow, but finished without a timeout), but
the persistence of the data fails since during the persistence the
transaction reached to the timeout.

Can you please file a bug in the bugzilla and attach the relevant logs
(engine.log, server.log and vdsm.log)

Thanks.
Alona.

Re: [ovirt-users] Manageiq ovn

2018-02-15 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi Alexey,

Please reply to the users list so all the user may enjoy the information.

Automatic sync of ovn networks to ovirt was added on version
ovirt-engine-4.2.1.3 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1511823).
If you use lower version you should import the network to ovirt manually
(networks tab -> import button).

Once the ovn network is imported to ovirt a vnic profile is automatically
created to it.
In manageiq, you can assign this profile to a vm you provision (provision
vm -> network tab -> vlan field).

Alona.

It is the same bug.
You need to apply the fixes in
https://github.com/ManageIQ/manageiq-providers-ovirt/pull/198/files to make
it work.
The best option is to upgrade your version.

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt 4.1.7: Duplicate MAC addresses had to be introduced into mac pool violating no duplicates setting.

2017-11-19 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi Nicolas,

There was a bug in oVirt [1] that in some cases a mac pool that doesn't
support duplicate macs could get duplicates.
The bug was (hopefully) fixed.

The error that you see means that you have a mac pool that was affected by
this bug and have duplicate macs although it doesn't support it.
The second part of the error should contain the list of the duplicate macs
("Following MACs violates duplicity restriction, and was pushed into MAC
pool without respect to it:").

It is just a warning, you can ignore it.
But we advise you to go over the duplicate macs and fix them.

Alona.

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirtmgmt network security

2017-10-30 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi Istvan,

I agree with Luca. You can remove nic1.
'ovirtmgmt' network is not mandatory on the vm, you can run the vm with no
vnics (vitrual nics) at all.
The 'ovirtmgmt' network is used for communication between the engine and
the host.
Whether the vm using the 'ovirtmgmt' network or not won't affect the
management capabilities.

You said that the vm nic with 'ovirtmgmt' was automatically added when you
added the vm.
It is strange and shouldn't behave this way. Are you sure that in the add
vm dialog you didn't choose it as the network of nic1? (you could leave
this section in the dialog unfilled, it is not mandatory).

BTW, if you don't want any VM to use the 'ovirtmgmt' network you can go to
the edit network dialog of 'ovirtmgmt' (in the Network main tab) and
uncheck the 'vm network' checkbox.

Hope it helps you,
Alona.

You can -
1. Move the host to maintenance mode.
2. Change the cluster of the hosts to the new one.
3. Running setupNetworks + save network configuration directly on the host
removing the old management network and configuring the new one (with new
vlan and ip).
Petr, can you please provide the syntax of the command?

* You may first try doing this step via the ui. Make sure you uncheck
the 'Verify
connectivity between Host and Engine' checkbox in the Setup Networks window.
I'm not sure it will work, maybe the engine will block it since you're
trying to touch the nic with the management ip.

4. Change the dns setting to resolve to the new IPs.

You can -
1. remove the host from the original clusters
2. remove all the network from the host using Petr's vdsm tool (
https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/79495/)
3. change the dns setting to resolve to the new IPs.
4. Add the host to the new cluster.

Pert Horacek recently wrote a vdsm-tool to remove networks from a host that
is no longer used by oVirt.
https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/79495/ - link to Petr's code.

It will be officially available on 4.2.

Re: [ovirt-users] Info on network interface threshold alert

2017-03-13 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi,

The calculation of the tx rate in percentage is -

txDiff = currentCumulativeTx - previousCumulativeTx
timeSlot = currentTime - previousTime

txRate = txDiff / timeSlot

ratePercentage = 100 *  txRate / speed

The message is displayed in case 'ratePercentage' is bigger than 95%.

If you have 'dwh' installed you can see the history.

Re: [ovirt-users] Change Vlan ID's which are connected to the Host/VM's

2017-02-19 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi Matt,

It won't work.
The name is the key for the sync operation. So it cannot be out of sync.

If you change the name via the db (which is highly not recommended!), the
network will be considered as a new one.
You will end up (after refreshing the capabilities) with unmanaged network
in the hosts (the network with the old name) and new network in the
dc/cluster that is not attached to any host.

Syncing a network means applying the DC config on the host (overriding the
actual host config).
Since as you mentioned, the DC config is old and not relevant,
I guess it is not working since you're trying to apply wrong
address/gateway/netmask on the management network, it causes the engine lose
connectivity to the host, and eventually ends up with a rollback.

What you need to do is to update the DC config to be same as the host config.
Since the out-of-sync properties in the attached image are address, gateway and
netmask of 'ovirtmgmt',
you need to open the 'setup networks' dialog and edit the 'ovirtmgmt' network
(clicking on the pencil icon).
In order to be able to edit the network, you first have to mark the 'sync
network' checkbox in the dialog. Then modify the address/gateway/netmask to the
host value.
Then click 'ok' and perform the setup networks ('ok' to the setup networks main
dialog).

You should modify the already existing network_attachment.
Here, since you don't pass the existing attachment 'id', we're trying to create
a new attachment.
Since you didn't remove the old one, we get two attachments for the same
network. The old one is still attached to 'eth0', that's why you get the error.

You have to specify the attachment 'id' on the attachment you're updating and
it should work.

Re: [ovirt-users] OVirt 3.6.2 -> NPE while clicking on "Setup Host Networks"

2016-02-01 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi Christoph,

I think that I know what happened on your environment.
Since, as you said, the names of the nics were changed after reboot. Nic names
that previously were used for sriov nics, are now used for a regular nics.

As I see from looking at the results of your queries-
Previously - eth2, eth3, eth4 and eth5 were sriov nics.
Now after the reboot - eth1, eth3, eth4 and eth6 are sriov nics.

Due to a bug (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1303640), currently the engine
doesn't know how to deal with this situation and the data in the db gets
corrupted.
Until the bug is fixed, the way to fix it manually is to clean the host's data
from some tables and then refreshing the capabilities of the host.

Please do the following -

1. delete from host_device where host_id='b3b01963-caf8-4f01-bfcc-57e6d33e7dc4';
2. delete from host_nic_vfs_config where nic_id in (select id from
vds_interface where vds_id='b3b01963-caf8-4f01-bfcc-57e6d33e7dc4');

After it, please do -
1. select from host_device where host_id='b3b01963-caf8-4f01-bfcc-57e6d33e7dc4';
2. select from host_nic_vfs_config where nic_id in (select id from
vds_interface where vds_id='b3b01963-caf8-4f01-bfcc-57e6d33e7dc4');

Make sure both of the queries return empty values.

Then click on the 'refresh host's capabilities' button.

Please let me know if after doing so you manage to open the host's setup
network dialog.

Thanks,
Alona.

If you didn't do the steps from the previous mail.
Before doing the deleting step, please stop the VMs that run on this host
(lxedna.voipfuture.com).
If you already done the delete, anyway, please stop the VMs that run on this
host (lxedna.voipfuture.com).

You can re-run them only after you finish all the steps from the previous mail.

Re: [ovirt-users] OVirt 3.6.2 -> NPE while clicking on "Setup Host Networks"

2016-01-31 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi Christoph,

Please send me also the output of the following-

On the host (The problematic host is - 'lxedna.voipfuture.com', right?)-
1. vdsClient -s 0 getVdsCapabilities
2. vdsClient -s 0 hostdevListByCaps

On the DB-
1. select * from vds_interface where
vds_id='b3b01963-caf8-4f01-bfcc-57e6d33e7dc4';
2. select * from host_device where
host_id='b3b01963-caf8-4f01-bfcc-57e6d33e7dc4';
3. select * from host_nic_vfs_config;

Thanks,
Alona.

Re: [ovirt-users] OVirt 3.6.2 -> NPE while clicking on "Setup Host Networks"

2016-01-28 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi Christoph,

I have some questions/requests-

1. After the reboot and the rewiring you did- did you press manually on the
Host's 'Refresh Capabilities' button (it is part of the Host's actions in the
host's main tab)?
If not, please do it and let me know if after doing it you manage to open the
'setup networks' dialog or still get the same error.
2. What is the status of your host? Up/Maintenance/some thing else?
3. Please attach the full log of your engine.

Thanks,
Alona.

[ovirt-users] oVirt 3.5 2 nd test day report- make ovirt easy configurable to allow redirection of all logs to syslog

2014-07-29 Thread Alona Kaplan
Ive re-tested this feature on f19 and f20.
fileappender and syslogappender were tested separately and in parallel.
Everything seems to work fine.

ovirt-engine-extension-logger-log4j is still not part of the build and had to
be built manually.

During the test day I tested -
Bug 1078738 - OVIRT35 - [RFE] make ovirt easy configurable to allow redirection
of all logs to syslog

There was no feature page so it was very hard to understand how this feature
should be tested.
The build contains only a patch that tailors the api to the engine.
abarlev sent me an external rpm with the syslog extension- tested it on f19,
seems to work fine.

[Users] Fwd: cannot assign network without IP address

It seems like an old bug.
Since oVirt3.1 a lot of bugs were fixed in the edit nic dialog.
Maybe consider using ovirt3.2?

Subject: [Users] cannot assign network without IP address

 Hi,

I'm using oVirt 3.1 on CentOS 6.3 and have the following issue

If I add a logical network to the datacenter i cannot assign it to a host
without giving it an IP address.

I just want to use the logical network as a bridge without specifying an IP
address (None option in the network settings).

This is the error message :

Error while executing action Setup Networks: Illegal or Incomplete IP
Address

In the log on the engine i see the following error :

VDSGenericException: VDSNetworkException: Specified netmask or gateway but
 not ip

To me this is complete bogus since none of my nics have any ip settings
 defined.
Only the ovirtmgmt network has this which is copied from the initial network
 setup
 during the ovirt-engine install

I also found this post which discusses the same problem :

 http://www.mail-archive.com/users@ovirt.org/msg06261.html

When adding the logical network to the datacenter I can also not unset the
 VM Network option.

In our RHEV setup we can do this perfectly.

 Regards,
 Vincent

  Hi Daniel,

Instead of forcing IE9 mode we can use edge mode to display
content in the highest mode available.
   I.e.:
   meta http-equiv=X-UA-Compatible content=IE=edge/

yes, this seems to be the current trend, forcing standards mode in
each reasonable version of IE (IE8+ that supports X-UA-Compatible
  meta-tag).

Thinking about it, I guess you are right, we can use IE=edge, since
we don't rely on any particular feature/quirk of IE8/IE9.

I was initially concerned about IE8, IE9, IE10, etc. each
implementing web standards differently, but assuming the
  application
works fine in IE9, it should also work fine in IE10, and so on.

@Alona, what do you think about adding IE=edge, as suggested by
  Daniel?

@Daniel, what about IE=edge,chrome=1, which adds preference for
Google Chrome Frame (IE plug-in which uses WebKit engine instead of
  IE engine), if available? :)

 +1 :)
We might gain some HTML5 features support on IE for free...
+1

  @DHC: according to http://stackoverflow.com/a/5673902, intranet
  sites
in IE8/IE9 are *always* rendered in compatibility (non-standards)
mode. This might be the problem you're facing with WebAdmin and
UserPortal. You might want to check IE Compatibility View
  Settings
dialog box and ensure that nothing gets displayed in compatibility
  view.

   Hi,

doing make rpm will actually build Engine using Maven and
   produce
RPMs, but you might also want to deploy Engine EAR that was built
   to
   JBoss server via make install_artifacts.

Thus I assume the master build does not default to compiling
for
all browsers?

Aside from make rpm-quick, which builds quick dirty RPMs for
   Firefox [gwt.userAgent=gecko1_8], I don't see any gwt.userAgent
stuff in makefile, so the master build defaults to compiling for
   all
browsers, unless you override this via EXTRA_BUILD_FLAGS.

I think an easier way to do this is as Alona suggested, invoking
   Maven build directly:

$ mvn clean install -Pdep,gwt-admin,gwt-user, but it's up to
 you.

Anyway, I think the problem isn't related to gwt.userAgent
   property
at all. If the GWT permutation for IE is missing, blank page will
   be
shown, as GWT permutation selector script (*.nocache.js) will not
   be
   able to load that permutation.

I think the problem might be caused by your client's IE browser
settings. As per [1], IE should render HTML page with !DOCTYPE
html using standards mode; rendering mode which WebAdmin and
UserPortal require. So if you see garbled mess in IE, it means IE
doesn't render HTML page in standards mode, but in other
   (quirks?)
mode, due to some IE browser settings override.

The X-UA-Compatible meta-tag actually *forces* IE to render
   HTML
page in standards mode, which overrides any IE browser settings:

 meta http-equiv=X-UA-Compatible content=IE=9/

(I think we should reconsider adding this meta-tag due to reasons
above, to ensure better compatibility with IE.)

Instead of forcing IE9 mode we can use edge mode to display
  content
  in the highest mode available.
  I.e.:
  meta http-equiv=X-UA-Compatible content=IE=edge/

Can you please be more specific about what doesn't work for you? Maybe

Maybe you've compiled the application with -Dgwt.userAgent flag for a specific

You should compile without any specific gwt.userAgent to support all the
browsers or to add -Dgwt.userAgent=ie8,ie9 to support ie8 and ie9.

Thus I assume the master build does not default to compiling for all

If master is not set to compile for all browsers then given the above

this is a good point, please make sure to compile UserPortal for all

 $ mvn clean install -Pdep,gwt-user -Dgwt.userAgent=specificBrowser

 you should just do:

 $ mvn clean install -Pdep,gwt-user

This will compile UserPortal for all browsers.

However, I don't think this is the problem here, because IIRC when
you compile UserPortal only for browser X and you try to access it
in browser Y, you'll get an empty webpage.

Re: [Users] Error while executing action Setup Networks

2013-02-11 Thread Alona Kaplan

I found the issue, there is a little icon of a pencil that you need
to click on in order to specify what IP you want the connection to
use. Once I did that it worked perfectly.

Also, I noticed that the interface for assigning virtual networks to
physical interfaces does NOT work correctly in the latest version of
google chrome. I had to flip into firefox ... I'm not sure if that
 is documented any where.

Can you please give more details of what didn't work for you on chrome?

I tried to post this to the list earlier today but my message did not
go to the list only directly to myself ... sorry for wasting your
 time.

Re: [Users] Logical networks in 3.1 on CentOS 6.3

2012-10-04 Thread Alona Kaplan
Hi,
The bug (ip protocol is not saved) was fixed in previous commits.
Use the latest oVirt version to get all the bug fixes.

Attached a screen-cast that demonstrates how it works-

 Hello,

Third, is this a bug when I come back to the configuration
  window, that
the networks (for ovirmgmt and vmnetwork) return to DHCP ? If I
  forgot
to re-check the static network, the host lose all it's network
  config
and is declared non-responsive then rebooted. Bad !

What cluster level does the host member of? Is this behaviour in
  'Setup
  Networks' or on 3.0 cluster?

This is a v3.1 of oVirt (engine + nodes, on Centos 6.3), in the GUI
 when
modifying the network interfaces of a node.
