No, I did not tested that.
I did not renamed my HE.

Thanks in advance.

Indeed. I do not think we have a tested procedure for renaming
a hosted-engine.

The rename tool [1] will not handle this.

Nikolai - IIRC we discussed this some months ago. Did you eventually
test this?

You can run the tool, but then ha-agent will fail to connect to the engine
to see that it's alive.

To answer your question: This is saved in a file called hosted-engine.conf,
as 'fqdn='. Until 3.5, this file was only saved locally on each host in
/etc/hosted-engine. Since 3.6, it's also saved in the shared storage.
You can try extracting it from the shared storage, edit, then update.
See e.g. [2] for how to do this, but that one is for a different file
(the answer file, also saved in both /etc and the shared storage).

I now read parts of the relevant code, and AFAICT we do not use fqdn
from the shared storage, only from the one in /etc. So it might be
enough to change there (although you risk that this will change in
a future version).

Please open a bug about this. If you try the above, please tell us if
it worked or not and what problems/errors you got. Thanks!

Hello Paul,
Any chance you may rename the HE Storage Domain name of to hosted_storage and
retry the auto-import of it?
You might find the auto-import worked as described in
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1269768 .

Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul,

The OVF_STORE disks are disks which preserve all the VMs and Templates OVF
data and are mostly use for disaster recovery scenarios.
Those disks can not be deleted.
Regarding the audit log which you got, can you try to detach and attach the
Storage once again and let me know if you still get this even log.

Hi,

As for me, I would build one cluster with gluster service only based on
two nodes (replica 2), and the other one with virt service only based on
other two nodes. I think this variant is more scalable in future.

PS. I am a new in oVirt, so do not except that I am wrong.

 b) disperse 3+1 ( raid 5 ) - but bad performance and not visible by

I have a dual host setup working right now. Host 1 runs the engine and
is also a node. Host 2 does DB storage and NFS storage. The WebSockets
proxy is running on Host1.

My question is how do I run this behind a router? I am correct in
understanding that the WebSockets proxy acts as the spice access point
for all of the nodes in the cluster / datacetner? or does each node host
need a direct connection for spice?

the .vv file I receive from the management console specifies the
engine's private IP address which works fine when inside the ovirt
management LAN, but it wont route from WAN obviously.

So essentially i guess i need squid to rewrite the served vv file to the
public IP and somehow make the ports work correctly, which is difficult
considering every time a VM is created it also adds its own spice port,
correct?

Dear all

I am not sure if the mail just did not get any attention between all the mails
and this time it is also going to the libvirt mailing list.

I am experiencing a problem with VM becoming unresponsive when removing
Snapshots (Live Merge) and i think there is a serious problem.

Here are the previous mails,

http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2015-May/033083.html

The problem is on a system with everything on the latest version, CentOS 7.1
and ovirt 3.5.2.1 all upgrades applied.

This Problem did NOT exist before upgrading to CentOS 7.1 with an environment
running ovirt 3.5.0 and 3.5.1 and Fedora 20 with the libvirt-preview repo
activated.

I think this is a bug in libvirt, not ovirt itself, but i am not sure. The
actual file throwing the exception is in VDSM (/usr

My system has internal ssd disk (sda) for OS and one local storage domain

 another local storage domain).

At reboot I was put in emergency boot because partitions at sdb disk could

it took me some time to understand that the problem was due to sdb gone

Here you can find how multipath became after update and reboot

 No device-mapper-multipath update in yum.log

Also it seems that after changing it, it was then reverted at boot again (I
don't know if the responsible was initrd/dracut or vdsmd) so in the mean
time the only thing I could do was to make the file immutable with

 chattr +i /etc/multipath.conf

The supported method of achieving this is to place # RHEV PRIVATE in
the second line of your hand-modified multipath.conf

I do not understand why this has happened only after upgrade to 3.5.1 -
3.5.0's should have reverted you multipath.conf just as well during each
vdsm startup.

The good thing is that this annoying behavior has been dropped from the
master branch, so that 3.6 is not going to have it. Vdsm is not to mess
with other services config file while it is running. The logic moved to
`vdsm-tool configure`

and so I was able to reboot and verify that my partitions on sdb were ok
and I was able to mount them (for safe I also ran an fsck against them)

Mode 2 will do the job the best way for you in case of static LAG supported
only at the switch's side, I'd advise using of xmit_hash_policy layer3+4, so
you'll get better distribution for your DC.

 Dan,

What is bad about these modes that oVirt can't use them?
I can only quote jpirko's workds from the link above:

Do not use tlb or alb in bridge, never! It does not work, that's it. The
 reason
is it mangles source macs in xmit frames and arps. When it is possible, just
use mode 4 (lacp). That should be always possible because all enterprise
switches support that. Generally, for 99% of use cases, you *should* use mode
 4. There is no reason to use other modes.

This switch is more of an office switch and only supports part of the
802.3ad standard:

PowerConnect* *2824

Scalable from small workgroups to dense access solutions, the 2824
offers 24-port flexibility plus two combo small?form?factor
pluggable (SFP) ports for connecting the switch to other networking
equipment located beyond the 100 m distance limitations of copper
cabling.

Industry-standard link aggregation adhering to IEEE 802.3ad
standards (static support only, LACP not supported)

So the only way to have some kind of bonding without buying more
expensive switches, is using balance-rr (mode=0), balance-xor (mode=2)
or broadcast (modes=3).
I just tested mode 4, and the LACP with Fedora 20 appears to not be
compatible with the LAG mode on my Dell 2824.

Would there be any issues with bringing two NICS into the VM and doing
 balance-alb at the guest level?

Kind regards,

Jorick Astrego

Re: [ovirt-users] ??: bond mode balance-alb

2014-12-29 Thread Nikolai Sednev
I'd like to add that using of floating MAC balance-tlb for mode 5 or ARP
negotiation for mode 6 load balancing balance-alb will influence latency and
performance, using such mode should be avoided.
Mode zero or balance-rr should be also avoided as it is the only mode that
will allow a single TCP/IP stream to utilize more than one interface, hence
will create additional jitter, latency and performance impacts, as
frames/packets will be sent and arrive from different interfaces, while
preferred is to balance on per flow. Unless in your data center you're not
using L2-only based traffic, I really don't see any usage for mode zero.
In Cisco routers the is a functionality called IP-CEF, which is turned on by
default and balancing traffic on per TCP/IP flow, instead of per-packet, it is
being used for better routing decisions for per-flow load balancing, if turned
off, then per-packet load balancing will be enforced, causing high performance
impact on router's CPU and memory resources, as decision have to be made on
per-packet level, the higher the bit rate, the harder impact on resources of
the router will be, especially for small sized packets.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Your guest-vm have to be defined as Highly Available
Highly Available

Select this check box if the virtual machine is to be highly available. For
example, in cases of host maintenance or failure, the virtual machine is
automatically moved to or re-launched on another host. If the host is manually
shut down by the system administrator, the virtual machine is not automatically
moved to another host.
Note that this option is unavailable if the Migration Options setting in the
Hosts tab is set to either Allow manual migration only or No migration . For a
virtual machine to be highly available, it must be possible for the Manager to
migrate the virtual machine to other available hosts as necessary.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for detailed explanation. Do you mean only HE VM can be failover? I want
to have a try with the VM on any host to check whether VM can be failover to
other host automatically like VMware or Xenserver?
I will have a try as you advised and provide the log for your further advice.

Thanks,

Hi,
Can you please provide engine.log from /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log and to
try as follows:

1. Revert all tree hosts to maintenance-mode=none.
2. Check that engine up and running.
3. Turn one of the hosts that is not running the engine, to maintenance
mode local.
4. Turn host that is running the engine to maintenance mode local.
5. Check that engine migrated to one and the only remaining host, that had
not been put in to maintenance mode at all.

Can you also provide your engine version, is it 3.4 something?

Thanks in advance.

I disabled local maintenance mode for all hosts, and then only set the host
where HE VM is there to local maintenance mode. The logs are as follows. During
the migration of HE VM , it shows some fatal error happen. By the way, also HE
VM can not work with live migration. Instead, other VMs can do live migration.

So. It means the web-proxy should be installed into the engine inside the virt
nodes where host the VM.
The ovirt engine is with centos 6.6.

I will have a try for this later.

Thanks,

 Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I am using centos for host. What engine host in your definition?
Is the host PC where engine VM is running on the top?

The physical host or VM witch runs the engine.

I am doing the walkthrough as

I checked but also it saids there is no such package. It works now
  with my native client.

  Some strange..

The oVirt websocket proxy is part of the engine and it's by default
installed on the engine host when you install the engine; engine-setup
asks if you want to configure it or not.
Than, if you really need for your network design, you can also install
and configure the websocket proxy on a different host.
 http://www.ovirt.org/Features/WebSocketProxy_on_a_separate_host
but this is already a special case.

I read in this thread that you are using centos7 (also for the engine host?).
We didn't release oVirt 3.5.0 for el7 but we'll do since 3.5.1 which
is targeted just after Christmas vacation (you are welcome to help us
testing it on centos7!) so now you still cannot find
 ovirt-websocket-proxy rpm for
 el7 on the stable branch.
If you really need to install it right now on el7 you can try from
 nightly snapshot.

  Thanks,

Re: [ovirt-users] FQDN for vm creating with hosted-engine

2014-12-18 Thread Nikolai Sednev
FQDN convention should be following your organizational domain conventions, as
long as FQDNS reachable via DNS, should work just fine.
Normally from the beginning you don't have to edit manually /etc/hosts at all,
once your HE-VM getting the same IP from reserved range of DHCP IP addresses
and DNS has its FQDN in its records, since your hosts during
hosted-engine-deployment will be given already known FQDN of the HE-VM instead
of its IP, then hosts will get to HE-VM via DNS.

Using reserved IP address range advised, as during some time, if you're using
IP addresses from dynamic pool, you'll eventually will loose connectivity to
your HE-VM, as it's IP will be updated after lease time expires or renewed.

For repeated HE installations with same FQDN for the engine desired, to get
always the same IP address for HE-VM, each time you're deploying it, you will
have to write down it's MAC address, so when asked during deployment to provide
MAC address for HE-VM, you'll just write manually the same MAC address (that
very MAC address, that is already matched in reserved DHCP IP-MAC pair), this
will ensure that your HE-VM will receive then the same IP address from DHCP and
will resolve to FQDN in DNS database records.

Thanks in advance.

FQDN or fully qualified domain name means that you have to reserve in your DNS
a name corresponding to IP received by HE VM from DHCP.
IP address should be reserved for the VM at DHCP.

I advise not to use manual IP to FQDN at your host, as this will lead to many
confusions, especially when you'll have more than a single host machine, but
you always can configure at your /etc/hosts file the FQDN corresponding to IP
address given to HE VM.
---
Thanks for the explanation. Now I understand what FQDN is for Ovirt. Is there
any problem if I do not use the naming convention like aaa.bbb.ccc, but only
aaa?
Also I am some confused for the above explanation. Here it said the IP for VM
is better to be got from DHCP rather than manual IP. If so, do this mean I need
to change all /etc/hosts file of all virt nodes to update the IP for the FQDN
for engine VM?
What is the confusions if I use manual IP rather than DHCP for engine VM?

Thanks,
Cong

Hi

Now I am trying to confirm KVM's HA with ovirt, and doing the walk through as
the following guide.

http://community.redhat.com/blog/2014/10/up-and-running-with-ovirt-3-5/

During the VM setting, FQDN is asked, what FQDN means about? Does it mean the
hostname of VM host? In my case, it is compute2-2.

The following is my hosts file, my VM host and storage is 10.0.0.92.

And I am trying to assign 10.0.0.95 to the hosted VM.

---

[root@compute2-2 ~]# cat /etc/hosts

10.0.0.93 compute2-2 nfs2-2

10.0.0.95 ovrit-test

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4

::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6

Also how I can remove the VM I installed, as for when I try to do hosted-engine
--deploy, it shows

---

[root@compute2-2 ~]# hosted-engine --deploy [ INFO ] Stage: Initializing

Continuing will configure this host for serving as hypervisor and create a VM

Was NFS share active and up after upgrade?
Was all of your hosts at the same host cluster at the same VDSM version at 3.5

Hi,
Can I get engine, libvirt, vdsm, mom, logs from host8 and connectivity log?
Have you tried installing clean OSs on hosts, especially on problematic host?
I'd also try to disable JSONRPC on hosts, by putting them to maintenance and
then removing JSONRPC from the check box on all hosts, just to compare if it
resolves the issue.

Thanks in advance.

Nathan,
Did you find a work around for this? I am running into the same issue.

Is there a way to force vdsm to see gluster? Or a way to manually run the
search so I can see why it fails?

[ovirt-users] Problem after update ovirt to 3.5 (Juan Jose)

2014-12-15 Thread Nikolai Sednev
Hi Juan,
Looks like a bug connected to NFS mount, can you supply VDSM and libvirt logs?
Was NFS share active and up after upgrade?
Was all of your hosts at the same host cluster at the same VDSM version at 3.5
after engine was upgraded to 3.5?

Thanks in advance.

Hello everybody,

After upgrade my engine to oVirt 3.5, I have also upgraded one of my hosts

But in some seconds my ISO domain is desconnected and it is impossible to

Thanks Itamar.I heard the other day that NFS v4.2 is supposed to contain server
side copy, so it's possible that we might see this kind of support in one of
more storage domain available to ovirt at some stage perhaps next year (in
Fedora at least). Is this something that Gluster will also likely provide in a
subsequent release once we have proper gfapi support?
I'd be interested to hear if others on the list are clamouring for server side
offload support in some form.

Cloning is one if the t.10 extensions that the lio target framework

I just tried cloning a vm and noticed that during the process there is a

With proper support for t.10 cloning I shoudn't see any traffic on the

Is there some way to enable the storage offload functionality in Ovirt?
If not, is this on the VDSM roadmap?? If support were worked in this
should be able to be applied to FCP connections as well.? The lio target
supports these offloads when acting as a Fiber Channel target also.

I've asked this sometime back but there hasn't been much in the way of
discussion on this users list or the devel list about this feature.

yes, on the roadmap, tbd yet on when. netapp did a plugin enabling this
for their storage array (VSC plugin)
I hope the ceph integration will provide this, though that doesn't solve
it for other type of storage domains yet.

Hi all,
I was thinking of booting from iSCSI SAN, which means you'll be using your
LUN placed on storage in order to boot your host over the network.
In this case you'll might configure your hosts HW to boot from iSCSI and then
you'll won't need any HD on your HW.

For standard centos you may see other issues.

For example, let's assume you have a single NIC (eth0).
If you boot your host and then try to add it to the engine,
the host deploy procedure will create try to create a management bridge
for the VMs using eth0. At this point your host will freeze since your
root FS will be disconnected while creating the bridge.

I've done this ~6 years ago, and it required opening the initrd to handle
the above issue, as well as adding the NIC driver and creating the bridge
at this point. So it's not a trivial task but doable with some hacking.

Doron

  https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Storage_Administration_Guide/diskless-nfs-config.html

I would like to know is some one succeeded to run the host on a diskless
   machine?
i am using Centos6.6 node with ovirt 3.5.
   Thanks,

  Hi Arman,
Are you working with ovirt node or standard CentOS?

Note that ovirt node is different as it's works like a live cd-
it runs from memory. In order to save some configurations (such
as networking) the local disk is used.
