[ovirt-users] Maximum domains per data center

2020-10-13 Thread Tommaso - Shellrent via Users

Hi to all.

Can someone confirm to me the value of max domains per data center on
ovirt 4.4 ?

We found only this for RHEV: https://access.redhat.com/articles/906543

Regards,
Tommaso.

[ovirt-users] export to ova

2020-09-25 Thread Tommaso - Shellrent via Users

Hi to all.

Hi try to ank another time the same question:

in our tests ovirt seems to be able to make only one export to ova at
time. also on different hosts and datacenter.

Someone can explain to us why?? this is for us a big issue, because we
use it in a backup script of more than 50 VMs and counting

We also already opened a bug without any useful response:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1855782

[ovirt-users] Re: Error exporting into ova

2020-08-31 Thread Tommaso - Shellrent via Users
Hi Gianluca, we have read the massage from Jayme, but we have problem
with the INTERNAL ansible playbook.

Wen we run an export, ovirt internally run the playbook
/usr/share/ovirt-engine/playbooks/ovirt-ova-export.yml

but only export at time

My post was one year old.
In the meantime you can check these two posts in archives by Jayme (I
cc him):

https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/U65CV5A6WC6SCB2R5N66Y7HPXQ3ZQT2H/#FAVZG32TPSX67DTXIHMGIQXUXNG3W3OE
and
https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/JNSY6GYNS6LPNUJXERUO2EOG5F3P7B2M/

In the first post it appears that by default the exports were of type
fire and forget (that is what you need) and so he included a wait_for
task to instead have them sequential.

I think you can borrow from his github playbooks and adapt to your needs.
Or Jayme, you could apply a general change where you set a variable
(eg sequential_flow) that by default is true and then you modify the
export_vm.yml playbook in the task

- name: "Wait for export"

with the wait condition becoming of kind

when: (export_result is not failed) or (sequential_flow|bool == False)

This way by default the play workflow remains unchanged, but a user
can set sequential_flow to False

What do you think about it?

In the mean time, as the playbook seems this one ( I run the
job from engine) :
/usr/share/ovirt-engine/playbooks/ovirt-ova-export.yml

Based on what described in bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1697301
I created at the moment the file
/etc/ovirt-engine/engine.conf.d/99-ansible-playbook-timeout.conf
with
ANSIBLE_PLAYBOOK_EXEC_DEFAULT_TIMEOUT=80
and restarted the engine and the python script to verify

Just to see if it completes, even if in my case with a 30Gb
preallocated disk, the source problem is qemu-img convert command
very slow in I/O.
It reads from iscsi multipath (2 paths) with 2x3MB/s and it writes
on nfs
If I run a dd command from iscsi device mapper device to an nfs
file I have 140MB/s rate that is what expected based on my storage
array performances and my network.

Not understood why the qemu-img command is so slow
The question still applies in case I have to do an appliance from
a VM with a very big disk, where the copy could potentially have
an elapsed of more that 30 minutes...
Gianluca

I confirm that setting  ANSIBLE_PLAYBOOK_EXEC_DEFAULT_TIMEOUT was the
solution.

I got the ova completed:

Starting to export Vm enginecopy1 as a Virtual Appliance 7/19/19
5:53:05 PM
Vm enginecopy1 was exported successfully as a Virtual Appliance to
path /save_ova/base/dump/myvm2.ova on Host ov301 7/19/19 6:58:07 PM

I have to understand why the conversion of the pre-allocated disk is
so slow, because simulating I/O from iSCSI lun where VM disks live to
the NFS share gives me about 110MB/s
I'm going to update to 4.3.4, just to see if there is any bug fixed.
The same operation on vSphere have an elapsed of 5 minutes.

What is the eta for 4.3.5?

One notice:
if I manually create a snapshot of the same VM and then clone the
snapshot, the process is this one
vdsm      5713 20116  6 10:50 ?        00:00:04 /usr/bin/qemu-img
convert -p -t none -T none -f raw

and its speed is quite better (up to 100MB/s read and 100MB/s write)
with a total elapsed of 6 minutes and 30 seconds.

during the ova generation the process was instead:
 vdsm     13505 13504  3 14:24 ?        00:01:26 qemu-img convert -T
none -O qcow2
/rhev/data-center/mnt/blockSD/fa33df49-b09d-4f86-9719-ede649542c21/images/59a4a324-4c99-4ff5-abb1-e9bbac83292a/0420ef47-0ad0-4cf9-babd-d89383f7536b
/dev/loop0

could it be the "-O qcow2" the reason? Why qcow2 if origin is
preallocated (raw)?

[ovirt-users] Re: Max running ansible-playbook

2020-08-21 Thread Tommaso - Shellrent via Users

Hi. No, we use a simple python script that trigger one single export.

We have a lot of single server datacenters with local storage, and in
all of them we run this scrip almost simultaneously.

How do you trigger the export operations?
Do you select multiple VMs/templates in the webadmin and call export
to OVA?
