Well, I really love oVirt, but I don't know.. All the solutions mentioned
here are complicated and or dangerous. Including hosted ha engine that
fails while deploying(for me). I think that test the backup for recovery is
very important and need to be done on a regular basis, What good is a
backup if you cannot restore?? I worked for a whole night trying to
recover the failed engine...recovery from backup was very painful. does
anyone here have a solution for testing backups (not in crises mode)?

On Mon, Jan 14, 2019, 20:41 I'm still sort of new to ovirt, but I went through a similar things. I

is it good enough to disable the ovirt-engine "systemctl disable

if it does, what about the other services, do I have to disable the
following as well? :
*ovirt-engine-dwhd.service enabled *
*ovirt-engine.service enabled *
*ovirt-fence-kdump-listener.serviceenabled *

*ovirt-imageio-proxy.service enabled *
*ovirt-provider-ovn.serviceenabled *

[ovirt-users] multiple engines (active passive)

2019-01-10 Thread maoz zadok
Hello users,
After a painful experience with a crashed engine and a problematic recovery
from a backup, I was thinking to create one more engine in standby mode in
the same network, that will automatically recover backup files from the
active engine on a daily/hourly basis.
This way I'll run recovery tests every day automatically and easily switch
in case of engine failure with a DNS record change to the passive engine.
So the main question, is it harmful to have more then one engine alive if
only one is been modified? can the standby engine affect the host nodes?

Thank you Didi for the fast reply!
The problem was before the restore from backup (that was the reason that I
reboot the engine and the engine didn't come up, I dug a bigger hole :-( ),
HA is not marked. but The VM was trying to migrate from kvm7 to kvm5
before the engine crashed.
I don't see the qemu process on any of the hosts.
"vdsm-client Host getVMList fullStatus=True" show the machine uuid only on
one (kvm5)

I'll try restarting the host (kvm5), let's see if it helps.

[ovirt-users] oVirt Node 4.2.5.1 vm stuck on "Powering Down"

2019-01-02 Thread maoz zadok
Hello,
vm stuck (on two hosts)
I have MySQL VM guest that was stuck in a way that "kill -9" to the MySQL
server pid did nothing.
from the shell I execute "init 0", this did not shut down the VM.

from the ovirt-engine I'm trying to power off the machine, and it is not
doing anything.
the event shows:

> VDSM kvm5 command DestroyVDS failed: Virtual machine destroy error
>
and:

> Failed to power off VM mysql-production (Host: kvm5, User:
> admin@internal-authz).
>

Note, when I list the VM s on the hosts view, I see that that same VM is
on two hosts (kvm7 and kvm5).
It looks like the VM is stuck on two hosts, in the status "Powering Down"

any ideas?

[ovirt-users] Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP)

2018-03-08 Thread maoz zadok
Hello All,
I connected existing data center with NFS storage domain to a new
Fiber-Channel storage domain according to the following guide, and I have
three questions.
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/install-guide/chap-Configuring_Storage/

1. why does the storage domain asks me to "Use Host"?

   - does it mean that if this host is down there is no access to the FC
storage or the next available host elected to manage the FC storage?
   - does it mean that all the traffic to my storage is routed via the
   selected host?
   - what is the best practice, do I need to split the workload to other
hosts as well by letting each host manage one small LUN instead of letting
one host manage all LUNs or one big LUN?

2. is it possible to set the newly created fiber-channel storage(data
domain) as master?

3. can I easily migrate all VM disks to the FC storage instead of the NFS?

Thank you!

Re: [ovirt-users] Importing Libvirt Kvm Vms to oVirt Status: Released in oVirt 4.2 using ssh - Failed to communicate with the external provider

2018-02-08 Thread maoz zadok
Using the command line on the engine machine (as root) works fine. I
don't use ssh key from the agent GUI but the authentication section (with
root user and password),
I think that it's a bug, I manage to migrate with TCP but I just want to
let you know.

is it possible to use ssh-key from the agent GUI? how can I get the key?

Hi All,
Is it possible that the "IP addresses" of the guest virtual machine will be
shown? it currently empty.

[ovirt-users] Host engine on virtual machine

2018-02-05 Thread maoz zadok
Hi All,
What do you think about installing the host engine on a virtual machine
hosted on the same cluster managing it?
is it make sense?
I don't like the alternative to install it on physical hardware, on the
other hand, if the host hosting the engine fall, there will be no access to
management.
Is there a best practice for it? please, share with me/us your
implementation.

Re: [ovirt-users] NetworkManager with oVirt version 4.2.0

2018-02-04 Thread maoz zadok
I think that I find a quick workaround to resolve this issue, I remove all
the logical interfaces from NM and from sysconfig/network-scripts and
restart the server,
the VDSM service generates the new file and configuration and everything
works as cream.

1. delete all the ifcfg-* files from /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts (except
for the ifcfg-lo )
2. delete the interfaces from NetworkManager as follow:
nmcli d delete ovirtmgmt
nmcli d delete bond0
nmcli d delete bond0.1

[ovirt-users] NetworkManager with oVirt version 4.2.0

2018-02-02 Thread maoz zadok
Hello All,
I'm new to oVirt, I'm trying with no success to set up the networking on an
oVirt 4.2.0 node, and I think I'm missing something.

background:
interfaces em1-4 is bonded to bond0
VLAN configured on bond0.1
and bridged to ovirtmgmt for the management interface.

I'm not sure its updated to version 4.2.0 but I followed this post:
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/how-to/networking/bonding-vlan-bridge/
with this setting, the NetworkManager keep starting up on reboot,
and the interfaces are not managed by oVirt (and the nice traffic graphs
are not shown).

my question:
Is NetworkManager need to be disabled as in the above post?
Do I need to manage the networking using (nmtui) NetworkManager?

Thanks!
