[ovirt-users] Ovirt and active directory integration

2016-10-26 Thread nicola.gentile.to

Hi,
I would like to submit a problem with active directory authentication.
Let me make an introduction.
Actually my infrastructure consists in 1 manager and 2 nodes (version
4.0.4).

The active directory forest consists in many subdomains.
In the active directory forest there are 2 type of accounts:
-1- normal users, this account is similar to name.surn...@domain.it
-2- particular users, this account is similar to s123...@subdomain.domain.it

Important note: the subdomain of the account type 2 is an alias domain
for example:

s123...@subdomain.domain.it is an alias of s123...@domain.it

When I do login from user portal:

- with normal users I login correctly and I can start the vm without problem
- with particular users I login correctly but I can not start the vm
although I have permissions. To solve this problem I must insert the
account in the db of ovirt from administration portal in the users tab

I noticed that, with a particular users (s123...@subdomain.domain.it),
the ovirt infrastructure does not automatically insert this account in
the own db.

Also the subdomain.domain.it is not in the list of the subdomains of the
forest, perhaps it is for this reason that does not work properly.

I deduced that is an active directory problem (that in not resolvable
for the complexity of the AD infrastructure), I ask you if exist a
script for insert of many accounts at one time. Something like:

script.sh < list-users.txt

where the file lists-users.txt consists of a sequential list of accounts
like this:

s000...@subdomain.polito.it
s000...@subdomain.polito.it
s000...@subdomain.polito.it
s000...@subdomain.polito.it

Thank you very much for your help

Yes, of course. You can specify subdomain in userportal.

I found this command ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup and now
I ask
you if this command is the substitute, this command is not present
on my

installation, I must add it I suppose.

Is there an howto page on the documentation to help me?

There is README in the 'ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap' package.

 $ rpm -qd ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap

What you need to do is just to install setup package:

 $ yum install ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup

And then run command:

 $ ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup

The setup will guide you throughout the process.

How to I proceede?

Thank you for your help

I have tried what you suggests me and it works fine but I ask you an
explanation.
During the setup, before finish the procedure I have tested with two
account the Login.

The forest domain is: domain.com
The accounts are like these:

1) s000...@subdomain.domain.com

2) name.surn...@domain.com

This procedure works fine but I have specified the domain or subdomain
in the Login Test.

My question is: from the user portal is possible specify subdomain?

For example:
username: s000...@subdomain.domain.com
password: xxx
Profile: domain.com

I hope I explained it well

Best regards

Is it the same in case of single host with CentOS 7 and hosted engine?
Any caveat in this scenario?

an hosted-engine additional host.

thank you for you replies and suggestions.

For suggestions of didi on CNAME effectively I did not think about it,
then I will apply.

For the migration I try to explain me better.

As in my previous mail, currently I have installed a server with ovirt
engine 3.4.1 (all in one). The hostname is the same of the User Portal
url and this is registered

in dns server (oveng.local).

Since I have an identical server to the 'all in one' server, I would
like to migrare the entire structure to ovirt 3.5.
For the new installation of ovirt-engine I thought to install it as a
virtual machine on vmware vsphere.

Obviously adding also storage.

I explain better, I thought to create a new parallel infrastructure to
the one that is currently installed, for migrate to a virtual macchine.
I would like to use the current hostname for the user portal (oveng.local).
Once the migration will be terminate I will re-install the old server
(all in one) as a host of new structure.

To do this I thought to:
- change the hostname of the old server (aio) from oveng.local to
ovengold.local.

- add a CNAME to the dns (as suggested by didi)
- install the new ovirt-engine on an our vmware vsphere structure with
the CNAME modified

- configure the networking
- install the new server as a node and add it to the new new structure.
- add storage
- migrate the virtual macchines from old structure to the new structure.
- do the test
- if its work fine I shutdown the old server (aio)
- re-install the old server (aio) as a node and add it to the new new
structure.

What do you think?

Good morning,
I have currently a server with ovirt installed (all-in-one) and I would
like to extend the structure.

At the end of the work I would like that structures were composed of the
following:

- 1 manager (virtualized)
- 2 hosts
- storage

So hosted-engine is probably the best solution.

You could follow this guide:
http://www.ovirt.org/Migrate_to_Hosted_Engine

Before beginning this complicated process, I would like to know if it is
possible, and how, to rename the old server.

I thought to do the following:
- change the hostname to the old server (all-in-one)
- update the dns server
- install the new server manager virtualized with old hostname
- add storage
- add the new server as a host
- expoxt the virtual machines from old server
- import the virtual machines to new server
- test the virtual machines on new server
- shutdown old server
- reinstall old server as a host

What do you think?

Best regards

Hello,
I have a question.
I would like to set up a new environment with two nodes.
I would like separate che storage traffic, vm traffic and network
management traffic.
Storage is in a separate subnet.
Also the virtual machine is in a separate subnet, and I would like to
separate the management of the network too.
I think I need to add 3 network adapters on the nodes, one for each purpose.
Now I ask you, does the oVirt engine server (manager) need three
network cards too?

At least you need only the Management Network (ovirtmgmt), you could also
evaluate the opportunity to use the self hosted engine where oVirt engine runs
on a VM hosted in HA way by the hosts it is managing [1.

Thank you

Good morning,
sorry if I reply only now.
Let me explain better.
Once generated the vms, the hostname of the vms are the same of the
template, but I wish it was centos-01, centos-02, etc.
Is it possible?

Yes, you can use cloud-init to set some parameters for each VM including the
hostname.
You should install the cloud-init rpm on your VMs (it would probably better to
do it on the template one) and than you can set the parameters for each VM from
'Initial run' tab under 'Advanced option'.

Thank you so much, I will try as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Nicola

Subject: [ovirt-users] name of virtual machine and hostname

Good morning,
I would like to ask you an information.
After I have installed ovirt, I have created a pool of vm with name
like centos-?? (from 1 to 20)
and then ovirt generated 20 vm with name centos-1, centos-2, centos-3
etc.
etc.
The problem is when the vm starts the hostname is not the same of the
vm name in ovirt but is the same name of the template.
Is it possible to make sure that the name of vm and the hostname is
identical?

I guess that the way to go about it would be to use the cloudinit
integration.
I've not tried it myself, but:
 http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Cloud-Init_Integration
states that setting the hostname was one of the planned features when
the
integration was designed.

Setting the host name via cloud-init is currently supported - you can set
it
via the Add/Edit VM via the Initial Run section or try to run-once the
VM
and look at the same initial Run section.
Please note that if you do Edit a VM that already run ie already
initialized
oVirt engine will not send the cloud-init data, you will need to use
run-once
dialog.

What you reported looks like a bug - the VM name should be the hostname
and
not the template name.

Unless Nicola referred to the template's host name, from which the vm pool
was
created. It might be if the template wasn't sealed.

Nicola, could you clarify what did you mean by template name which
appears as
the host name ?

Thanks,
Moti

Care to report the bug on bugzilla?
Thank you,
Shahar Havivi.
