If you are using KVM as a virtualization platform; you can use nested KVM...

Here are some links on the subject

I have an oVirt and RHEV stack all on my test machine.

Note ~ you need a pretty "hot" box

I would also follow the CentOS how to http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/oVirt

Maybe this is just a ploy to get everyone to use Spice?

Re: [Users] Disable MOTD on shell login

2013-09-10 Thread Christian Hernandez
If I may interject

Disabling the MOTD makes it easier to script...let's say if I want to get a
list of VMs' snapshots and out them in a for loop...I would have to write
the output of the rhevm-shell to a file; parse that file (oh BTW there are
^[[H and ^[[2 in that file...just to make things more interesteing); then
run it through my loop - and then pass that into rhevm-shell...repeating
the process. Also it doesn't help that rhevm-shell does a "clear" of the
screen when it runs (can I turn that off too?)

I would have to do that for every command.

I don't mind having an MOTD...just wished there was an option to turn it off

In short: It makes it easier to script and automate tasks.

Hello Jonathan,

I believe you can use the Red Hat Documentation for this.

https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/3.1/html/Evaluation_Guide/Evaluation_Guide-VDI.html#Evaluation_Guide-Add_Active_Directory

One of the "gotchas" that I ran into is that you need to specify the Active
Directory as your DNS provider in your resolv.conf file (not sure if it was
coincidence or not; but I ran into some issues that went away when I did
this)

Re: [Users] RHEV-toolsSetup

2013-03-08 Thread Christian Hernandez
It's under

/usr/share/rhev-guest-tools-iso/

You have to have the right package installed

# rpm -qa | grep rhev-guest
rhev-guest-tools-iso-3.1-9.noarch

Ah, I have that same file; but no link! I wonder if the RPM didn't install
the links?

I created the symlink and it worked!

Thanks! :-)

[Users] Powermanagemnet for CMC

2012-04-18 Thread Christian Hernandez
Has anyone configured the power management for CMC?

Some of my Hosts will be in a blade chassis and I don't want to
"accidentally" shutdown the wrong blade...

Currently this is what I do (for example)...
*
*
*ssh root@blade-cmc
racadm serveraction -m server-9 hardreset*

The options available to me are...

*powerdown - perform server power off
powerup - perform server power on
powercycle - perform server power cycle
hardreset - force hard server power reset
graceshutdown - perform graceful shutdown of server
powerstatus - display current power status of server*

I see the option for "Drac" ...can/should I use that? What would the config
look like?

I think you're right; there was some talk floating around about a patch to
a python script.

I am going to install 3.0 and see if I still have the same problem

Yes,

I've played with permissions; and made sure the ownerships are set

Using NFS version 3 (on both the Filer and the Host)

NetApp I'm using is FAS3040

I've already went down the "permissions" ave tried the "777" approach.

I can mount the share manually by going to the command line and using the
"mount.nfs" command; just not through the oVirt interface

2012-04-17 Thread Christian Hernandez
Just out of curiosity...

Has anyone ACTUALLY successfully added an NFS storage (using a filer) to
your Cluster/Datacenter?

I still cannot figure out how and am still getting the " Error while
executing action RemoveStorageServerConnection: Unexpected exception " error

Excuse my ignorance...

But how do I apply the patch? I don't testing the patch on my systems (as I
am only testing myself); but I am...

1) Only have a elementary skills at git
2) Don't know how to apply the patch

[Users] Use Filer for NFS storage

2012-04-13 Thread Christian Hernandez
Is there any way to use an existing Filer for the NFS storage? Or do I HAVE
to use a host?

We currently have a NetApp filer serving as our NFS server; I'd rather use
that than create a new host and make it the NFS server (as it won't get
backed up...would rather have it get backed up as the Filer already has
that in place)

I am using CentOS 6.2 on both oVirt server and Host client

And IN FACT you are right; I looked in the BIOS and it was disabled! The
node was added successfully now; thank you

[Users] Error trying to add a host

2012-04-13 Thread Christian Hernandez
Hello,

I am getting an error trying to add a "host" to oVirt where the Status says
"Install Failed"

Here is (a snipet ) the log from the oVirt server
(/var/log/ovirt/enginge.log)...I can provide more if needed

I checked on the host itself and it seems like I do have an Intel Hardware
Virt on the server (wasn't a surprise since I BOUGHT it that way...but
still checked)

Some things to note...

On the Node (under the /etc/vdsm/vdsm.conf file) I have the "fake_kvm_support
= true" to see if that would make the node install (didn't work)...also I
have "ssl = false" to see if it might be a cert error (still didn't work).

And, yes, I've even tried removing and adding the node again...still no
luck =\

What are my next steps? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
