Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt metrics

2016-07-13 Thread Dominique Taffin
Hello!

very nice implementation - and very good blog entry.

IMHO a very important metric should be made available: IOPS.

IOPS are a very important factor when using shared storage among a
cluster. It is a key indicator for identifying issues and performance
bottlenecks and also having a base for scaling proper storage devices.
Beeing able to display IOPS per VM would be a great benefit for large
scale enterprises.

best,
 Dominique

Hi,

thanks for the point, we will add it to the doc.

The configuration option you are interested in is this:

   pool.default.connection-options.responseTimeoutMillis = 6

just add it to your profile properties
(/etc/ovirt-engine/aaa/your_profile.properties)

[ovirt-users] AAA LDAP timeout

2016-05-18 Thread Dominique Taffin
Hello!

We do have a rather large LDAP which does take some time to answer.
Using oVirt and AAA LDAP extension, I do run into timeouts.

running "ovirt-engine-extensions-tool --log-level=FINEST --log-
file=tool.log aaa login-user --profile=abc --user-name=xxx" fails
with:

[...]
LDAPSearchException(resultCode=85 (timeout), numEntries=0,
numReferences=0, errorMessage='A client-side timeout was encountered
while waiting 6ms for a response to search request with message
ID 3, base DN [...]

ldapsearch itself takes approx 2 minutes.

Can the timeout of 6ms be configured somewhere? I could not find
anything in the documentation...

thank you and best,
 Dominique

Re: [ovirt-users] Log4j hostname

Hello!

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, it does not include the hostname with
header=true.

The following is received by the logserver:

{
  "_index": "ovirt-2016.05.11",
  "_type": "syslog",
  "_id": "AVSedM6EH9SU2r3j0ihk",
  "_score": null,
  "_source": {

VdsIdAndVdsVDSCommandParametersBase:{runAsync='true',
hostId='-XXX---XXX',
vds='Host[onodeXXX.some.domain,-XXX---XXX]'}), log id:
689d5b30\n",
"@version": "1",
"@timestamp": "2016-05-11T08:15:35.729+02:00",
"type": "syslog",
"host": "10.XXX.XXX.XXX",
"tags": [
  "_grokparsefailure"
],
"syslog_severity_code": 5,
"syslog_facility_code": 1,
"syslog_facility": "user-level",
"syslog_severity": "notice"
  },
  "sort": [
1462947335729,
1462947335729
  ]
}

is it possible to have the IP in the "host" filed have resolved from log4j so
that the hostname will be displayed there? Or have it convinced to use the
appender.Application field?

thank you and best,

 Dominique

Hi Dominique,

Add

log4j.appender.myappender.header = true

and see if you get the hostname

[ovirt-users] Fw: job queue

2016-04-20 Thread Dominique Taffin
Hello!

I was hoping someone could give some insight details...

 I have a question regarding the internal operations of ovirt-
engine. It seems the internal queue only processes up to 10 requests
/ jobs simultanious. E.g. 7 Power_ON and 3 LiveMigrations. All
remaining jobs (e.g. 50 more Power_On requests) are delayed.

Is this queue size configurable somehow?

We sometimes do have a huge amount of power_on requests (last time
up to 700 in 30 minutes) that get extremely delayed by this.

Any hints are welcome.

thank you and best,
 Dominique

Re: [ovirt-users] Monitor with nagios

2016-01-29 Thread Dominique Taffin
Hello!

I think it depends all on what you do want to monitor.

a simple PING check is the least you should do, but this often is
not enough.

You can check the management modules of your hosts for hardware
issues (iDRAC, ILO, IMM, ...) via nagios.

In Addition to that, you can install a nagios (NRPE) client on your
hypervisor, if you are running CentOS/RHEL/Fedora and perform some
checks via this client.

In addition to that, we do have check_rhev3 (https://github.com/ovid
o/check_rhev3) running against our engine hosts to monitor various
elements like status of host/cluster/network etc of our oVirt
infrastructure.

best,
 Dominique

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt nodes

2015-12-22 Thread Dominique Taffin
Hello,

 official numbers would also be interesting to me.
I can tell you that we do have some larger infrastructures running
on several engine hosts, one of them for example has 3 datacenters,
7 cluster, 200 hosts. We do have noticeable performance issues on
the engine host. The engine is already running on rather performant
hardware including 12 cores and SSDs - but nevertheless we have load
averages >20 on it and very slow response time from the engine
itself.

Re: [ovirt-users] iLO2

2015-12-22 Thread Dominique Taffin
Hello,

we also had a lot of issues using ILOs of older DL360 hosts. We
ended up using "ipmilan" with options "lanplus=1,power_wait=4".
Assuming of course you are able to access the management module/port
from the network your ovirt nodes are running in.

I can use the same credentials to log into the system via the web
