[ovirt-users] The feature everyone was asking for is finally here...
FYI, After many requests from multiple developers and testers, the oVirt CI added a new simple job that lets you run the full fledged end-to-end oVirt system tests with a click of a button. You can read all the details and how-to in the new oVirt blog [1]. We wanted to allow running oVirt system tests on EVERY open patch from ANY oVirt project, without relaying on complex building code inside the job. Luckily we just added the 'build-on-demand' so together with it you can build any rpms you'd like and use them to run the manual job. So the 2 steps you'll need to do are: 1. Write 'ci please build' inside a comment on an open oVirt patch ( make sure the feature is enabled for that project first, its already available for ovirt-engine,vdsm,dashboard and vdsm-jsonrpc-java) 2. Run the manual OST job for the version you'd like to test with the URLs you got from #1 You'll get and email once the job is done and you can browse the results and check for logs from engine and the hosts. [ovirt-users] News from oVirt CI: Introducing 'build-on-demand'
FYI, Following last announcement on the manual build from patch job [1], we got some feedback and requests from developers on ability to improve the flow of building artifacts from a patch. I'm happy to announce that after some coding, the infra team was able to add a new feature to the 'standard CI' framework, that will allow any oVirt project to build rpms from any VERSION or OS DISTRO using a single comment in the patch. Full details can be found on the new oVirt blog 'ci please build' [2], but to give the TL;DR version here, All you have to do is write '*ci please build*' on a comment and CI will trigger a job for you with new RPMs (or tarballs). The projects which already have this feature enabled are: - ovirt-engine - vdsm - vdsm-jsonrpc-java - ovirt-engine-dashboard Adding new project is a single line of code in the project YAML file and its fully described on the blog post [2], so feel free to add your project as well. So let the builds roll... Happy Xmas! I'm not sure i understood exactly what you mean by 'potential reviewers'. do want gerrit (hook?) to automatically add reviewers to a patch according to the code sent? so in fact you'll have a place somewhere for mapping code specific developers? I really like this idea. Gerrit currently requires new users to know who to add as reviewers, IMHO impeding new contributors. One relative simple solution would be to look at who recently touched the files that are being modified and add them as reviewers. This can be done by looking at the git log for a file. Some pseudo python code solution: reviewers = set() for modified_file in commit.files: reviewers += set(commit.author for commit in git.log(modified_file)) return reviewers This gives a system that those who touche a file, become the maintainer for that file. A more complex solution could improve on that and limit the reviewers added per patch. One can think of limiting to only contributions in the last X months, weigh contributions so common committers are prefered. It could also combine several methods. For example to limit to the 5 authors who touched the most files: reviewers = collections.Counter() # New in python 2.7 for modified_file in commit.files: reviewers += collections.Counter(commit.author for commit in git.log(modified_file)) return [author for author, count in reviewers.most_common(5)] Since Counter also accepts a dictionary, one could also weigh the touched lines per file. Downside there is big whitespace/formatting patches can skew the line count. In short, I think an entire thesis could be written on the optimal way to determine reviewers but a simple algorithm could do to show the method works. Does this help? ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users I think if we do this, we want to make sure we cover per file who is required to +2 it before we consider it acked. won't it require maintaining static lists of people per file/path/project? ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

I think there has been an initial work on this done by lukas [1] and by lazlo [2] And there was also initiative by myself to start a jenkins plugin for foreman [3], so you can create any type of cloud from foreman itself and get much more features and use cases than just create a vm directly on oVirt. unfortunately i don't think any of these project is still under active development at the moment. [Users] [ANN] new fedora20 nightlies rpms for oVirt are available for download
fyi, oVirt infra has added support for nighlies rpms for various oVirt projects for fedora 20. the following has be done: - All ovirt projects were added f20 nightlies on jenkins.ovirt.org. (replaced f18, which is NOT built nightly anymore). - One jenkins f19 slave (vm02) was upgraded to f20, and we also have a bare metal host running f20 as well. - Nightlies rpms can be downloaded on the repos [1] - Nightlies publish cleanup scripts were updated on the resources.ovirt.org to support f20. I didn't update any ovirt-node* job, since i'm not familiar with them. if you would like to build f20 builds, just add the 'fedora20' label to the relevant jobs. Eyal. Thanks for ranting. Community testing and ranting are to be cherished. We must improve in the points you have raised. I now tried several times to test the beta 3.3.1 rpms, but they can't even be installed in the most times. I'm glad to read you're testing 3.3.1. May I ask you to add yourself to http://www.ovirt.org/Testing/Ovirt_3.3.1_testing ? One time it required a future selinux-policy, although the needed selinux fix was delivered in a much lower version. Now the rpms have broken requirements. It requires hostname instead of /bin/hostname. This broken requirement is not included in the vdsm 3.3 branch, so I wonder where it comes from? Anyway. So I proceeded and tried to build vdsm myself once again. Currently the build fails with (but worked fine some days ago): /usr/bin/pep8 --exclude=config.py,constants.py --filename '*.py,*.py.in' \ client lib/cpopen/*.py lib/vdsm/*.py lib/vdsm/*.py.in tests vds_bootstrap vdsm-tool vdsm/*.py vdsm/*.py.in vdsm/netconf vdsm/sos/vdsm.py.in vdsm/storage vdsm/vdsm vdsm_api vdsm_hooks vdsm_reg vdsm/storage/imageRepository/formatConverter.py:280:29: E128 continuation line under-indented for visual indent - How can the quality of the vdsm builds be increased? It is frustrating to spend time on testing and then the hosts cannot even be installed to broken vdsm rpms. I suspect you are not interested in excuses for each of the failures, let us look forwards. My conclusions are: - Do not require non-yet-existing rpms. If we require a feature that is not yet in Fedora/Centos, we must wait. This is already in effect, see for example http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/20248/ and http://gerrit.ovirt.org/19545 - There's a Jenkins job to enforce the former requirement of spec requirement. David, Sandro, any idea why it is not running these days? it does run, but we can't enable it since it's still failing: http://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/vdsm_3.3_install_rpm_sanity_gerrit/label=fedora19/282/console once that's fixed, the job will be enabled and run per patch. - Keep the docs updated. Our Jenkins slaves have pep8-1.4.6, so we should update http://www.ovirt.org/Vdsm_Developers#Installing_required_packages accordingly - and more importantly, make that version available. Sandro, who built the python-pep8-1.4.6 that sits on the el6 Jenkins slave? Could you make it publicly available? (I can volunteer http://danken.fedorapeople.org again) i tend to agree here with patrick on using non released pep8 packages, that are not available via rpms, but only via python-pip. the jenkins slaves were updated via pyhon-pip and not via yum upgrade. - How are the builds prepared? Is there a Jenkins job that prepares stable rpms in addition to the nightly job? Or is this totally handcrafted? no jenkins job for stable builds. just nightly builds published from this job which build only rpms from master. http://jenkins.ovirt.org/view/Packaging/job/vdsm_create_rpms/ - How can it be that the rpm spec differs between the 3.3 branch and released rpms? Laszlo Maven must be installed, otherwise builds would never work on it, but I am guessing it has been installed manually outside of the package manager otherwise this dependency would be met. CC'ing a...@ovirt.org: How is maven installed on the jenkins host? Can we get it installed from RPMs? Jenkins doesn't install the maven package, but uses a mvn bin under $JENKINS_HOME/tools/$mvn_ver/bin/mvn. I'm not sure that requiring the 'maven' rpm in the make is wise, than rather checking if 'mvn' can be run instead, since this a standalone pkg that can be on os even without an rpm installed. but for now, i can make sure all jenkins slaves have the 'maven' rpm installed to solve this issue. eyal.
