Searching for: site:ovirt.org kvm dd
I found e.g.: http://lists.ovirt.org/ pipermail/users/2014-June/ 058827.html

It sounds far more complicated than the integrated process in oVirt for
importing kvm virtual machines using libvirt.John, can you please share why do
you seek for an alternative way? Thanks Arik
I am exploring, trying to see, what all procedures are there which is simple to
do .

[ovirt-users] Any simple way of migrating KVM machines to oVirt instances

2017-03-20 Thread John Joseph
Hi All,
Thanks to the mailing list support and advice, now I have finished installing
oVirt 4.1, I have created few virtual machines and it is working fine. Now I am
thinking about migrating some virtual machines from vmware/KVM to ovirt.
I am  checking the docs at

http://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/virt/virt-v2v-integration/
for KVM to oVirt installation.

Like to know is there any other simple way of migrating from KVM machines to
oVirt instance, it will be great if I can get a url for the how to do

Advice and support requested
Thanks
Joseph John

I don't think that the bug is related, as Joseph's case lacks any bond.

Network should have been restored by Vdsm on its start up. However, in
ovirt-3.5.0 there were cases where this has failed. Furthermore, we
still have

1203422 vdsm should restore networks much earlier, to let
net-dependent services start

that is still on our TODO list.

To understand precisely what happens on your host, we'd need your vdsm
version, and as Didi asked - your {super,}vdsm.log and /var/log/message.

However, to avoid the need of re-solving a solved bug, verify that you
use vdsm-4.16.14 or later.

[ovirt-users] My feedback on network setting after installing OVirt

2015-05-10 Thread John Joseph
Hi All,

Like to give my feedback about how the network interface behaved after OVirt
I have used

CentOS 6.6 64 bit, updated

Ovirt stable from the repo

Now after the installation, and configuration you get "ovirtmgmt" interface
and "ovirtmgmt" interface gets the IP address and everything is fine . Now
reboot it

result is that when you give ifconfig , eth0 is not displayed and "ovirtmgmt"
do not have IP address

This stage solved by giving ifconfig eth0 up

and restarting the network, it will give "ovirtmgmt" an IP now

I tested it using different installation, with DHCP or manual configuration for
eth0 , in both the case the same experience

Giving my feedback,

thanks

There are issues with NetworkManager but mere dhcp works.

[ovirt-users] Is it mandatory to have fixed IP addres for eth0, for installtion of OVirt

Dear All,

As for experimental purpose I have done OVirt installation on CentOS 6.6 and it
was success. Till now before installation of OVirt, I used to make the eth0 IP
permanent and then install

Now I have need to take the machine to different places to demo and discuss
about the installation, In this case I need to keep my eth0 on DHCP.
Was wondering whether the fixed IP address of eth0 is mandatory or can I use
dhcp for the host machine, before installing Ovirt

I saw that you got the same error:

The problem probably lies in not having eXecute permission for vdsm on
/home/itsupport. In order for any user to traverse, not necessarily look into a
directory, that user must have execute permission either via a group or via a
direct permission.

Please ensure that vdsm user could effectively write there before trying again.
You can check it with:
# sudo -u vdsm touch /home/itsupport/images/wtest

Hi Simone,

Great thanks to you.
I was not able to write to the dir as vdsm

Now taking clue from that, I made a dir in /home named as vdsm and gave
ownership as "vdsm:kvm"

then did

sudo -u vdsm mkdir /home/vdsm/images
sudo -u vdsm mkdir -p /home/vdsm/exports/iso

then the installation and it is SUCCESS,
