[ovirt-users] Ovirt node disk broken

2023-04-18 Thread marcel d'heureuse
Hi all,

On a single Server the node disk is broken and I have to replace it.

The glusterfs configuration is also gone but the glusterfs directorys are
existing on a separate available disk.

Did I have a Chance to install the ovirt Node on a New disk and make the old
glusterfs running and also the 7 vms included the hosted engine?

I can also deploy a New hosted engine but can I than import the existing
gluster disk from the old Installation?

I have installed the node and also mount the gluster_bricks but to make the
volumes available I have not found any command.

It is an ovirt 4.3.10 Installation.

Is there any chance to save some time. The data inside the vms are good to
have.

Br
Marcel

Vmstore is full with 97 % (3TB).

I want to cleanup and have delete 2 vms with round 500 GB harddiskspace

In gluster .shard/.remove_me are 6 files but after 6 h I got no new free

[ovirt-users] Ovirt node Virus scan

2022-04-29 Thread marcel d'heureuse
Hi,

I have to scan our 18 nodes with a virus scanner and I have to provide the
report to our ito.

This nodes have no internet connection and they will not get it.

Which software I should use? Clamav?

I can shutdown each single node and can scan but I would prefer to have it as
cmd running and generate monthly or weekly reports. I don't want to have the
daemon running.

How did you do this?

[ovirt-users] Backup prozess

2022-02-14 Thread marcel d'heureuse
Moin,

We have in our Environment 12 servers managed by one self hosted engine. It is
ovirt 4.3.9. We are Freizeit on that Version.

How did you make Backups? We use a github Script which generate via api a
snapshot and Mount this disk into the vm where the backup Script is running.
The backup Script Export this additional Hard disk to a storage and disconnect
the disk and remove the snapshot.

This works on Linux vm fine if they have Medium load. If we try this with a
Windows 10 vm or Windows Server vm or a Linux vm with high load or with a very
big Hard drive this will not work. Disk can't Export and snapshot will not
delete.

I have found winchin and bareos but I have not start to check this first I want
to have some more possible options.

Thanks

2021-12-02 Thread Marcel d'Heureuse
Moin,
We use in our Enviroment three ssd drives with four TB space in a Raid
5 on a adaptec contrioller and use on the ovirt installation the jbod
on the drive which the Adaptec Controller provide. If we have three
Servers in place we use the same config but each volume will be
replicate to the other servers.
Next year we plan to use a Raid 10 with four drives and the rest will
be the same.
I think the speed will not be the best one but für the data we have
enough redundancy im place.

[ovirt-users] Re: Cannot Start VM After Pausing due to Storage I/O Error

2021-09-09 Thread marcel d'heureuse
Moin,

Normally you can use virsh to start vm which are in pause.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-list-a-kvm-vm-guest-using-virsh-command/

You have to use saslpasswd2 -a libvirt username to get access on comandline.

It is importand that you Resum that vm on the same host where it was paused.

Good luck...

[ovirt-users] Re: GlusterFS Monitoring/Alerting

2021-09-07 Thread marcel d'heureuse
Please be carefull. We have used a prometheus plug in and it has requested
every minute the gluster status. And we habe 50 vm running over three servers.
In case that the system is on load the answer require more than one minute.

After three weeks the glusterfs was overloaded and all vms was quite slow.

Try to reduce your request in an half hour base procedure if you want to see
all relevant data.

[ovirt-users] Re: oVirt Hosted Engine Offline Deployment

Moin,

We require a stable Centos Version and we selected Centos 7. I think the
4.4 is moved to Centos 8 and i am not sure if you can deploy it offline
with the stream in background.

We use the Ovirt Node installer for the servers with an Kickstart file
and after the bare metal installation we start do to a lot with ansible
but not the gluster deployment and the hosted engine deployment. Good
working ansible scripts are missing yet.

but if you have Ovirt 4.4 running without any internet activities please
give me an information.

Thanks

Moin,

There is a package which you need to install before you deploy the engine. It
is round 1,1 GB RPM file where the engine vm is implemented.
For offline Installation we use the ovirt Version 4.3.9.

And remove the ovirt repos because you will lose a lot of time because he try
to found euch mirror. Starts in us and stopps in Japan.

But the score is 3400. The engine Image should be ok.

Is the engine volume mounted and available as brick?

[ovirt-users] Engine dm-1 disk crashed

2021-05-04 Thread marcel d'heureuse
Hi,

We shutdown the complete ovirt system, if a poweroutage occurs and we don't
want to make an hard power off.

So we stop all vms, put the storages in maintenance and shut down the engine,
disconnect storages and shut down the nodes.

On power up, sometimes it works fine but in some cases the engine need a
xfs_repair session to start.

What we make wrong? Have you an idea?

2021-04-27 Thread marcel d'heureuse
Item solved.

We have unmount the brick. Format and Mount at the same Mount point.

Add the engine dir and chown 036:036.

In ovirt on that brick we have click ob reset brick and now all 6 brick are in
sync.

[ovirt-users] Right Glusterfs Config on HA Server

2021-02-28 Thread Marcel d'Heureuse

Hi Guys or Girls,

I have a problem in a productive system. We use three Servers which have
a Raid 5 with four Harddrives SATA 8 TB 7200 rpms. The Systems are
interconnected for glusterfs with 1 GB/s.
The Network Load between all three servers are between 5 and 8 % of the
network. The Glusterfs has a separate VLAN which compltete isolated from
other networks.

Find attached a small drawing.

On that server we rum as HA and there are 8 VMs installed. Most of the
VMs working well but if there is high load on the system some of the VM
can't write the Data in a "good" speed on the disks. The Glusterfs is
configured as Replica on the Raid5 disk which is as Jbob in Glusterfs
defiend.

If i take a look on the iostats i can see that the Harddisk have round
50 open connections some of the glusterfs and a lot of the vms. In side
the VMs i can see long iowaiting times from 300 up to 600 ms. With is on
case of a Posgresql database very long.

Should we configure the Raid5 controller out that the controller only
should 4 disks with 8 TB and Glusterfs should connect directly to the
/dev/sd[b-e]?

What do you think? Will SSD HDD will help on performance but the same
config with Raid5 and Jbod could be the bigger problem.

Thanks
Marcel

i have learned to install a self hosted engine directly to the physical
interfaces.

later you can move it with the hosted engine into the different bonds or vlans.

it works fine by me round 20 times.

[ovirt-users] Ovirt Cluster SSH key exchange

2021-01-07 Thread marcel d'heureuse
hi,

we have setup a ovirt system with 9 hosts.
we will now add three more nodes and we have to exchange from each host the SSH
public keys to the other one.

we use ovirt 4.3 on centos 7.

how did you exchange the SSH keys? did you have ansible to do this or other
tools?

ssh-copy-id is not the best process here and waste time.

[ovirt-users]Re: 回复: how to gracefully stop engine and the HA before maintain the two host-engine servers ?

2020-12-20 Thread marcel d'heureuse
Hi, we use this way.

is from this mailing list from 2017. Mr Narra from Redhat wrote this at aug. 9
2017:

1) Stop all the virtual machines.

2) Move all the storage domains other than hosted_storage to maintenance which
will unmount them from all the nodes.

3) Move HE to global maintenance 'hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode
=global'

4) stop HE vm by running the command 'hosted-engine --vm-shutdown'

5) confirm that engine is down using the command 'hosted-engine --vm-status'

6) stop ha agent and broker services on all the nodes by running the command
'systemctl stop ovirt-ha-broker' ; 'systemctl stop ovirt-ha-agent'

7) umount hosted-engine from all the hypervisors 'hosted-engine
--disconnect-storage'

8) stop all the volumes.

9) power off all the hypervisors.

To bring it up back again below steps will help.

1) Power on all the hypervisors.

2) start all the volumes

3) start ha agent and broker services on all the nodes by running the command
'systemctl start ovirt-ha-broker' ; 'systemctl start ovirt-ha-agent'

4) Move hosted-engine out of global maintenance by running the command
hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode =none

5) give some time for the HE to come up. check for hosted-engine --vm-status to
see if HE vm is up.

6) Activate all storage domains from UI.

7) start all virtual machines.

So, I think keep the live system on ovirt 4.3 to be sure that's works after

Distribution you have 10 years support? Centos 7 has support up to June 24.

Someone starts to evolute Gentoo?

Should we use Gentoo as baseline for ovirt? you can freeze this very easy but
it's hard to manage.

Ubuntu ltd will be a try for ovirt.
our lab we will leave centos 7 up to june 24.

than we have to move

2020-11-05 Thread marcel d'heureuse
No, the edge was running and we have crashed the engine with reboot hard or
setup a server with the same IP address to see what happens.

all tests will be solved well but the .shred folder of the gluster will be
bigger and bigger.

the engine it selve has round 5 GB but the .shred has 60 up to 90 GB.

so I want to let the engine like it is but the .shred folder I want to clean.
or will the oldest files delete by gluster and I don't need to do anything?

[ovirt-users] Re: Add Node to a single node installation with self hosted engine.

2020-10-29 Thread marcel d'heureuse
hi,

it works well. I have create the lvm partitions like the onode01 and I have
added the bricks from onode02 and onode03.
after that t have add the hosts into ovirt and and it works well to.

but to add the nodes I have to remove the ovirt yum repos from /etc/yum.repo.d
because then he will not try to download a newer version.

but I have now only one open point. the volumes with three bricks are there but
only the hosted engine domain is there. the iso and vmstore domain was not
there. strange. I think it was available on the single note but I try to
reinstall all three servers again to be sure that it's works.

thanks .

that's the reason, why we will fistly not switch to 4.4 because the servers

2020-10-29 Thread marcel d'heureuse
hi,

you have to install one rpm package and it will work. the hosted engine rpm has
a size of 1.1 GB.

I do this with ovirt 4.3.

[ovirt-users] Re: Add Node to a single node installation with self hosted engine.

2020-10-27 Thread marcel d'heureuse
moin,

I start to generate the physical bricks and create an iso brick which is also
available on the single node.

the iso brick I create as redundant and I would like to move all data from iso
single install to the Redundanz iso. than I delete the single node iso and make
a new one and add this to the Redundant iso.

I think this will be work but I am not sure if the engine volume will accept
this.

[ovirt-users] Add Node to a single node installation with self hosted engine.

2020-10-26 Thread Marcel d'Heureuse
Hi,

I got a problem with my Ovirt installation. Normally we deliver Ovirt as
single node installation and we told our service guys if the internal
client will have more redundancy we need two more server and add this to
the single node installation. i thought that no one would order two new
servers.

Now I have the problem to get the system running.

First item is, that this environment has no internet access. So I can't
install software by update with yum.
The Ovirt installation is running on Ovirt node 4.3.9 boot USB Stick. All
three servers have the same software installed.
On the single node I have installed the hosted Engine package 1,1 GB to
deploy the self-hosted engine without internet. That works.

Gluster, Ovirt, Self-Hosted engine are running on the server 01.

What should I do first?

Deploy the Glusterfs first and then add the two new hosts to the single
node installation?
Or should I deploy a new Ovirt System to the two new hosts and add later
the cleaned host to the new Ovirt System?

I have not found any items in this mailing list which gives me an idea
what I should do now.
