I have been asked to provide slide templates for presentations that might
be created for future events. Through 2014, we have been using the
green-on-white slide template, and now, thanks to Eidan Hildesheim, we have
a new 2015 edition that is based more on the Patternfly interface.

These template presentations are provided to build new slides for oVirt
presentations. They can be downloaded and used as-is, or Saved As template
 files within OpenOffice and LibreOffice.

The templates, as well as a whole host of pre-made presentations (which
are all under the Creative Commons license), are available on the oVirt.org
 slide page[1].

 Thanks!

Re: [Users] oVirt translations on Transifex

2013-10-29 Thread Marcelo Barbosa
Hi,

I believe that both projects(Zanata and Transifex) are excellent
choices for oVirt, but I have doubts about the largest membership of one or
another independent of features.
I think it would be interesting to accomplish a test aimed at the
adoption oVirt, where a version would be submitted to Transifex and myself
will take care to disclose to the community, to feel how people receive,
after we evaluating, what think about this plan ?

Thanks.

I'm a big fan of Transifex, which is, like Zanata, open source. I also
think that translation communities work in ecosystems, and it makes
sense ot have oVirt where there is the biggest gathering of systems
related virt management projects - which looks to me to be around
 Transifex.

Isaac, Carlos, what would be involved in moving to Transifex? What would
we gain and lose from the move?

 Thanks,
 Dave.

So, first of all, you should know that resizing a disk is not yet
 supported
  in oVirt.
If you decide that you must use it anyway, you should know in advance
 that
  it's not recommended,
and that your data is at risk when you perform these kind of actions.

There are several ways to perform this.
One of them is to create a second (larger) disk for the vm,
run the vm from live cd and use dd to copy the first disk contents into
 the
  second one,
and finally remove the first disk and make sure that the new disk is
  configured as your system disk.

Here you guide for the dd operation to be done from within the guest
 system,
  but booted from live.
Can this be done directly from the NFS storage itself instead?

The second, riskier, option is to export the vm to an export domain,
resize the image volume size to the new larger size using qemu-img and
 also
modify the vm's metadata in its ovf,
as you can see this option is more complicated and requires deeper
understanding and altering of the metadata...
finally you'll need to import the vm back.

Its just a theoretical question as I think the issue will come for us
  and other users.

I think there can be one or more snapshots in the WM over the time.
  But
if that is an issue we can always collapse them I think.
If its a base image it should be RAW, right?
In this case its on file storage (NFS).

   - Is the disk image composed as a chain of volumes or just a base

collapse the chain first to make it easier).
   - Is the disk image raw? (you can use qemu-img info to check)
   - Is the disk image on block or file storage?

   Hi,

If I have a VM that has run out of disk space, how can I increase
   the
space in best way? One way is to add a second bigger disk to the
   WM
and then use dd or similar to copy. But is it possible to stretch
   the
original disk inside or outside oVirt and get oVirt to know the
   bigger
   size?

Sorry for this a bit off topic but I've been resizing my VM just
by adding new disks to the VM and then using the LVM tool or just
 adding it to fstab.
I know that it's not a true resizing but it has been a good solution
for me. Once a Oracle DB (a XE used for tests:-)) went down because my
disk went full (it was 8GB) and I added a new disk, moved the dbf to
this new disk and restarted Oracle, without having to reboot the VM.

Great idea is running this oVIrt-engine to two or more vm's in to oVirt,
example:

   * Install 2 nodes or more and running oVirt-engine provisory in laptop,
for example, after create 2 vm's HA for permanent engine virtualized and HA.

  Only suggestion.

I've seen a pdf document describing how to configure Red Hat Cluster and

Perhaps the use of glusterfs and keepalived (http://www.keepalived.org/)

A nice feature would be to be able to migrate guests between AMD and
 Intel host machines.
KVM should be able to support it [1]. I don't know if other hypervisors
are able/can to support this. Because oVirt aims to support different
hypervisors it might be problematic. But I think offline migration
 should be possible.

can you please elaborate what do you mean by offline migration?

With offline migration, I means the guest is not running while moving
it from one host to another.

I have 2 host machines for testing. One is running on a AMD Opteron and
the other Intel Xeon. Since I can not put both machines in the same
cluster, I have specified a cluster called AMD (for the opteron) and
another called Intel (for the xeon).
Now I would like to move a guest from the AMD machine to the Intel
machine. Since the CPU does not match I can't.

I'm not aware that you can't.

Ok, now is see my problem.

you should be able to move the VM from one cluster to the other.
yes, it will see a different cpu model. why is that an issue?

To move the guest I need to edit the guest and than I can change the
 cluster.

 Thanks,
 Soeren

I assume the solution for this could be a generic cluster definition.
Something with a limited/specific cpu set equal to the qemu
configuration -cpu qemu32 or -cpu qemu64.

 Soeren
