This was one of my fears regarding the IBM acquisition.  I guess we
can't complain too much, it's not like anybody *pays* for CentOS.  :)

Thanks for the response.  The issue was that I had to run engine-setup

you that you need to run the command.  :)

[ovirt-users] VM Migrations Failing

2019-07-10 Thread Michael Watters
I need to migrate running VMs from one host in our cluster to another
however the task keeps failing any time I start a migration.  The engine
logs show a few different errors as follows.

constraints. See below for details:, The host ovirt-node-production3 did

I also checked the vdsm.log on the destination host which is showing an
error like this.

Does anybody know how to resolve this?  The destination host is able to
run VMs and I've been able to move a few VMs by shutting down and doing
a restart however I'd like to do a live migration if possible.

I had a similar issue with our environment, have you installed the CA
cert used to create your openldap certificate as a trusted authority?
It may also help to rerun
ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup and select the "Insecure" option
for your CA cert.

I'm not sure what has changed but it appears that ovirt 4.6 is more
picky about CA certificates than previous releases.

For those wondering, I was able to fix this by running
ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup and setting the CA certificate
method to "Insecure".

I was previously using "System" but that does not work despite our
internal CA being installed as a trusted certificate authority.

No problem.  Here are links to the logs as requested.

source: https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/hWJBUrVhitOS1jQdkNF6yA

destination: https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/0jdIJp~uOa3sgMbrly33NA

I believe the issue may be related to this error.  Any idea what would
cause this?

[ovirt-users] Host unable to run VMs after upgrading to 4.2 release

2018-06-27 Thread Michael Watters
After upgrading our ovirt hosts to the 4.2.4 release two nodes are
unable to run VMs.  The vdsm.log shows a failure which appears to be
related to firewalld.

[ovirt-users] Re: trunked ports

2018-06-25 Thread Michael Watters
You should be able to use bonded interfaces with an IP on each VLAN
Interface for the ovirt hosts and the engine.  For example, here is the
IP configuration for one of our VLANs.

10: bond3:  mtu 1500 qdisc
noqueue state UP group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 00:1b:21:5c:80:39 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
    inet6 fe80::21b:21ff:fe5c:8039/64 scope link
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
24: bond3.311@bond3:  mtu 1500 qdisc
noqueue state UP group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 00:1b:21:5c:80:39 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
    inet 192.168.111.201/24 brd 192.168.111.255 scope global bond3.311
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
    inet6 fe80::21b:21ff:fe5c:8039/64 scope link
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

bond3.311 configuration is managed in the
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bond3.311 file.

IMO setting up bonded NICs with VLAN tagging is one area where ovirt
falls short.  You essentially have to configure your networks twice.
First using the /etc/sysconfig/network-interface files and then inside
of the engine itself.  VDSM may also need to be configured to use ifcfg
persistence in the config file.

cat files/vdsm/vdsm.conf
[vars]
ssl = true
net_persistence = ifcfg

[addresses]
management_port = 54321

Your switch ports also need to be configured to support 802.1q networking.

[ovirt-users] Re: LDAP logins do not work

2018-06-14 Thread Michael Watters
ldapsearch works correctly and I'm able to bind to AD without any
issues.  ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup also shows searches
working correctly.

One thing I've discovered is that I can login as "u...@domain.com" but
then receive an error as follows.

> The user u...@example.com@example.com is not authorized to perform login

How do I enable debug logs?  The log entries from the engine.log file
are the same as my previous message.

I actually managed to fix it.  The ovirt-engine package was still on
version 4.1, after running yum update to upgrade everything to version
4.2 the engine-setup script was able to upgrade postgresql.

[ovirt-users] engine-setup fails to upgrade postgresql

2018-06-11 Thread Michael Watters
After installing the ovirt 4.2 repository and running engine-setup the
upgrade script fails with an error as shown below.

[ ERROR ] Postgresql client version is '9.5.9', whereas the version on
'localhost' is '9.2.23'. Please use a PostgreSQL server of version '9.5.9'.
 Please note the following required changes in postgresql.conf
on 'localhost':

 postgresql.conf is usually in /var/lib/pgsql/data,
/var/opt/rh/rh-postgresql95/lib/pgsql/data, or somewhere under
/etc/postgresql* . You have to restart PostgreSQL after making these
changes.
  Engine database host []:

The setup script is supposed to take care of this automatically however
it fails before even attempting to upgrade postgres.  Does anybody know
how to work around this?

[ovirt-users] Re: Unable to login after upgrade

It looks like the issue was caused by a new admin account being created
in the internal-authz domain.  Here is what the engine logs show.

Despite this the ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool still shows the wrong user ID when
querying the admin account.  For example:

[root@mdct-ovirt-engine-dev ~]# ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool user show admin

Re: [ovirt-users] Which hardware are you using for oVirt

2018-03-31 Thread Michael Watters
We run Dell Poweredge R720s and R730s with 32 GB of RAM and quad Xeon
processors.  Storage is provided by Dell MD3800i and Promise arrays
using iSCSI.  The network is all 10 gigabit interfaces using 802.3ad
bonds.  We actually just upgraded from 1 gigabit NICs since there were
some performance issues with storage causing high IOwait on VMs.  I'd
recommend avoiding 1 gigabit if you can.

I actually reran the ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup tool and was
able to login and complete a search successfully but doing the same
thing in the engine UI fails.

Here's the configuration from the .properties file.

include =

vars.domain = example.com
vars.user = ldapu...@example.com
vars.password = password

pool.default.auth.simple.bindDN = ${global:vars.user}
pool.default.auth.simple.password = ${global:vars.password}
pool.default.serverset.type = srvrecord
pool.default.serverset.srvrecord.domain = ${global:vars.domain}
pool.default.ssl.startTLS = true

engine logs show this error.  Is this a bug?  I don't remember entering
a trailing space anywhere during setup.

Re: [ovirt-users] 3.5->3.6 did not import hosted engine storage domain

Can you configure a *new* cluster and migrate the engine to that? You
should be able to import your existing storage domains and logical
networks under the new cluster which can then be used as a migration
target for any running VMs. Your other option would be to build a new
engine using 4.0 and then restore your 3.6 backup.

I think you're on to something there. The destination server is running
ovirt 3.6 while the source server is on 4.0. The cluster compatibility
level is also set to 3.6 since I have not upgrade every host node yet.

[ovirt-users] migration failures

2017-02-23 Thread Michael Watters
I have an ovirt cluster running ovirt 4.0 and I am seeing several errors
when I attempt to put one of our nodes into maintenance mode. The logs
on the source server show errors as follows.

Feb 23 10:15:08 ovirt-node-production3.example.com libvirtd[18800]: operation
aborted: migration job: canceled by client
Feb 23 10:15:08 ovirt-node-production3.example.com libvirtd[18800]: internal
error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor: 2017-02-23T15:12:58.289459Z

12 13 14 15

2017-02-23T15:12:58.289684Z qemu-kvm: warning: All CPU(s) up to maxcpus should
be described in NUMA config

2017-02-23T15:15:07.889891Z qemu-kvm: Unknown combination of migration flags: 0

2017-02-23T15:15:07.890821Z qemu-kvm: error while loading state section id
2(ram)

2017-02-23T15:15:07.892357Z qemu-kvm: load of migration failed: Invalid argument

This cluster does *not* have NUMA enabled so I am not sure why this
error is happening. Some migrations did succeed after being restarted
on a different host however I have two VMs that appear to be stuck. Is
there a way to resolve this?

That may be a typo on my part. When building an ovirt host I always
have to set up networking manually after installing the OS and then
reconfigure the networks through the engine using the GUI.
Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a simpler way to set up
networking with bonded interfaces and VLAN tagging.

Thanks. I managed to get it working after changing the bonding options
in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/bond0 file.

Looks like the issue was caused by having my iscsi targeted hosted on an
LVM volume. I changed the target to use a raw disk (/dev/sdb) and disk
moves between pools are working now.

Thanks. I guess we'll just have to ignore these errors until the host

My intention was to upgrade the ovirt-engine to 4.0 first and then the
host nodes when we can get to them.

I'm also seeing this error using a Dell MD3800i array. The multipath

Feb 1 15:11:58 ovirt-node-production2 kernel: dd: sending ioctl

Feb  1 15:21:01 ovirt-node-production2 multipathd: dm-31: remove map

Feb  1 15:21:01 ovirt-node-production2 multipathd: dm-31: remove map

The dd error seems to happen every time that SPM runs a test.

The engine is 4.0, the host nodes are running 3.6 with VDSM 4.17.35.

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-engine failed to check for updates

2017-02-01 Thread Michael Watters
I don't think IPv6 is the cause. When the engine checks for updates
there is a yum error shown in the debug logs as follows.

2017-02-01 10:38:39 INFO otopi.plugins.ovirt_host_mgmt.packages.update

I've searched for a repo that provides this package but it looks like
this package is part of oVirt 4.0 instead of 3.6 which is what we are using.

[ovirt-users] ovirt-engine failed to check for updates

2017-02-01 Thread Michael Watters
I have ovirt-engine 3.6 set up on a dedicated host which is managing two
ovirt hosts. I am seeing errors when the engine attempts to check for
updates as follows.

Failed to check for available updates on host ovirt-node-production2 with
message 'Command returned failure code 1 during SSH session
'root@ovirt-node-production2''.

I checked the logs on the host and it appears to be an issue with yum.

2017-01-30 10:21:05 ERROR otopi.plugins.ovirt_host_mgmt.packages.update
update.error:102 Yum: Cannot queue package ovirt-imageio-daemon: Package
ovirt-imageio-daemon cannot be found

2017-01-30 10:21:05 ERROR otopi.context context._executeMethod:151 Failed to
execute stage 'Package installation': Package ovirt-imageio-daemon cannot be
found

Is there a way to resolve this? I don't see any package named
ovirt-imageio-daemon in my repos when running a yum search.

Thanks. I can monitor the VMs using snmp or collectd but what I'd like
is to have I/O use shown in the engine just like memory and CPU use are.

Does ovirt have any way to monitor disk I/O for each VM or disk in a
storage pool? I am receiving disk latency warnings and would like to
know which VMs are causing the most disk I/O.

Looks like Office 365 likes to mangle hyperlinks. The correct URL for
the git repo should be github.com/oVirt/vdsm.git.

Re: [ovirt-users] Select As SPM Fails

2017-01-19 Thread Michael Watters
You can upgrade vdsm without upgrading to ovirt 4. I went through the
same issue on our cluster a few weeks ago and the process was pretty
simple.

You'll need to do this on each of your hosts.

yum --enablerepo=extras install -y epel-release git
git clone https://github.com/oVirt/vdsm.git
cd  vdsm
git checkout v4.17.35
yum install -y `cat ./automation/build-artifacts.packages`
./automation/build-artifacts.sh

cd /root/rpmbuild/RPMS/noarch
yum --enablerepo=extras install centos-release-qemu-ev
yum localinstall vdsm-4.17.35-1.el7.centos.noarch.rpm
vdsm-hook-vmfex-dev-4.17.35-1.el7.centos.noarch.rpm
vdsm-infra-4.17.35-1.el7.centos.noarch.rpm
vdsm-jsonrpc-4.17.35-1.el7.centos.noarch.rpm
vdsm-python-4.17.35-1.el7.centos.noarch.rpm
vdsm-xmlrpc-4.17.35-1.el7.centos.noarch.rpm
vdsm-yajsonrpc-4.17.35-1.el7.centos.noarch.rpm
vdsm-python-4.17.35-1.el7.centos.noarch.rpm
vdsm-xmlrpc-4.17.35-1.el7.centos.noarch.rpm
vdsm-cli-4.17.35-1.el7.centos.noarch.rpm
systemctl restart vdsmd

The qemu-ev repo is needed to avoid dependency errors.

Re: [ovirt-users] [ANN] oVirt 4.0.6 Release is now available

2017-01-11 Thread Michael Watters
I'm getting yum errors when I try to update the ovirt-release40 package
on our engine.

Running yum clean does not have any effect. Is there an issue with the
mirrors?

Awesome! Thanks for all of your help. I was able to install this
package and upgraded vdsm which appears to have resolved the disk
errors I was seeing.

[ovirt-users] Redirect login requests to FQDN

2017-01-09 Thread Michael Watters
After upgrading to ovirt-engine 4 some of our users are receiving a
message as follows.

> The client is not authorized to request an authorization. It's required to
> access the system using FQDN.

Is there a way to direct ovirt login requests to the server's FQDN
using mod_rewrite? I placed these rules in /etc/httpd.d/01-
redirect.conf and restarted httpd however requests are never actually
redirected.

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST}   !^ovirt-engine\.example\.com$ [NC,OR]
RewriteRule ^ovirt-engine/(.*)
https://ovirt-engine.example.com/ovirt-engine/$1 [L,R]

Re: [ovirt-users] OVF disk errors

2017-01-09 Thread Michael Watters
Thanks, that's kind of what I'm discovering. Is it possible for an
ovirt 4 host to join a 3.6 cluster? Do I need to upgrade my engine
first? We are running ovirt-engine 3.6 on a dedicated server which
manages two ovirt nodes right now.

Re: [ovirt-users] Disk move failures

2017-01-09 Thread Michael Watters
I built the rpms but there are some dependency errors when I attempt to
upgrade.

qemu-img-rhev >= 10:2.3.0-31.el7_2.16 is needed by
vdsm-4.17.35-1.el7.centos.noarch

qemu-kvm-rhev >= 10:2.3.0-31.el7_2.16 is needed by vdsm-4.17.35-
1.el7.centos.noarch

These packages appear to be part of ovirt 4.0 so it looks like an
upgrade will be needed unless there is a way to obtain updated packages
for ovirt 3.6.

[ovirt-users] OVF disk errors

2017-01-05 Thread Michael Watters
Hello,

I have two hosts in a cluster running ovirt 3.6 and I keep seeing
errors in the event log as follows.

Jan 5, 2017 2:34:01 PM

What concerns me the most is the last two errors. I've verified that all disks
are online and all volume groups are working as expected. Is there a way to
manually update an OVF disk? Here is what the engine database shows for these
disk IDs.

[ovirt-users] VM Migration Failed

2016-12-16 Thread Michael Watters
I am running ovirt 3.6 on our cluster and VM migration is failing.  The
VDSM logs show an error as follows.

jsonrpc.Executor/7::ERROR::2016-12-16
08:41:04,398::vm::4714::virt.vm::(_updateDevicesDomxmlCache)
vmId=`dc419d2b-522a-4e96-b06a-243ec8ede44e`::Alias not found for device type
redir during migration at destination host

Does anybody know what would cause this? Both hosts are online and have VMs
running.

[ovirt-users] kdump integration warnings

2016-11-21 Thread Michael Watters
I have two brand new ovirt hosts running ovirt 3.6 which are giving a
warning message whenever the host is activated.

>Kdump integration is enabled for host ovirt-node-production1, but
kdump is not configured properly on host.

The server does have the kdump package installed and the service is
running according to systemctl.  Do I need to update the
/etc/kdump.conf file to work properly or does ovirt do that on its own?
