2019-08-12 Thread Winfried de Heiden

Hi all,

  No, the certificate was OK, no UTF characters found. I think I
  found the problem however; the public keys as found in
  /root/.ssh/authorized_keys.

  One or two keys did contain a "@" in the description. After
  removing these keys, installation went well. I'll try to reproduce
  using a virtual hypervisor, smells like a bug.

We are tracking a similar request here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1490041
  - [RFE] Provide IdM client software in RHVH
In oVirt Node you can just enable CentOS repos and
  install any needed package and configure it as if it was a
  normal CentOS installation.
Nothing already integrated ready to be consumed.

[ovirt-users] IsolatedNetworks

2016-05-13 Thread Winfried de Heiden
Hi All,

As described on http://old.ovirt.org/Features/IsolatedNetworks,
Isolated networks in one of proposed features of oVirt 4.0:

"The current host networking api (up to ovirt-engine-3.6) requires a
network to be configured on top of a network interface.

In order to configure a local network on the host the user had to
create a dummy interface to which the network was attached.

The Isolated Networks feature aimed to configure a local host on the
network which isn't connected to any network interface and allows vms
which are connected to it to communicate with each other.

Isolated Networks will be limited to VM networks only and only MTU
should be relevant in that network definition for the created isolated

network."

Hence, I should be able to create a host-only network with an
underlaying NIC; sounds nice for my @home Cloud...

However, runing oVirt 4.0 it is still complaining a NIC is misssing. I
might have configured something wrong. How to set create an isolated
network? Is there already any documentation?

Kind regards,

Winny

  Edit Virtual Machine --> Host --> select "Pass-Through Host

First, make sure that you're enabling the nested feature for amd (just
noticed that the example used intel). Please show us the output of

# cat /sys/module/kvm_intel/parameters/nested

and sorry, did the same mistake again - use

# cat /sys/module/kvm_amd/parameters/nested

on the host (physical machine), lscpu inside the VM and VM XML - use

# virsh -r list
# virsh -r dumpxml {machine_id found in the list}

Not really true - fake_kvm_support enables QEMU emulation instead of
hardware virtualization (e.g. VT-x) instructions. It is also quite
broken in it's current state and fix is pending in cpuinfo branch at

I don't really understand the reason why fake_kvm would be used in

following instructions should be correct for getting the flag passed
to the VMs.

  Please check to understand if nested support is enabled on your host:

[ovirt-users] Nested KVM on AMD

2015-04-21 Thread Winfried de Heiden

Hi all,

  Summary : Nested Virtualization support for VDSM
  Description :
  If the nested virtualization is enabled in your kvm module
  this hook will expose it to the guests.

  Installation looks fine on the oVirt (AMD cpu) KVM-host:

  [root@bigvirt ~]# cat /sys/module/kvm_amd/parameters/nested

  and in oVirt manager "50_nestedvt" will show up  in Host Hooks.
  However, trying to install "oVirt Node Hypervisor 3.5" it will

  Am I missing something? Why is nested kvm not working?

Hi all,

  So, the kernel might be the problem, I'm running Centos6 using a
  kernel 2.6:

  [root@bigvirt qemu]# uname -r
  2.6.32-504.12.2.el6.x86_64

  It seems I need to upgrade first to Centos7

  I enabled nested virtualization via:
1) echo "options kvm-amd nested=1"  /etc/modprobe.d/kvm-amd.conf
2) modprobe -r kvm-amd
3) modprobe kvm-amd

After it I can see svm flag on vm cpu, but from some reason I still receive the same error "No virtualization Hardware was detected", when try to deploy vm in engine as host.

The same scenario for intel cpu's works fine and I can use nested virtualization:
1) echo "options kvm-intel nested=1"  /etc/modprobe.d/kvm-intel.conf
2) modprobe -r kvm-amd
3) modprobe kvm-amd

So it looks like problem in host deploy with amd cpu maybe Alon Bar-Lev can help with it.
Also check your kernel it must be = 3.10

[ovirt-users] Windows Server 2012 R2 guest + Memory Ballooning = High CPU

2015-03-11 Thread Winfried de Heiden

Hi All,

  Running Windows 2012 R2 (64 bit) on oVirt 3.5.1-1.el6 caused a
  rather high cpu load, even ~20% when doing nothing. Turning off
  theMemory Balloon Device made
  the problem disappear.

  The guest tools are installed using the
  ovirt-guest-tools-3.5_5.iso.

  Anyone got the same issue? What is causing this? Seems like a bug
  to me.

[Users] ovirt 3.4.0-0.5.beta1 and OpenLDAP groups

2014-02-02 Thread Winfried de Heiden - Voorwinde
Hi All,

I managed to use OpenLDAP to integrate with oVirt 3.4.0-0.5.beta1. For
this, I followed (more or less, I used a Raspberry Pi and Raspbian)
instructions as found on http://www.ovirt.org/LDAP_Quick_Start

It all seems to work well, I am able to connect to a domain, login etc.
and assign some roles to users.
However, I cannot use (ldap) groups it seems. I cann add a group in the
ovirt gui, but (in the tab General) Active remain false.

A I missing something...?

[Users] ovirt-node: cannot make new libvirtd.conf persistent

2013-07-02 Thread Winfried de Heiden
Hi all,

I tried to make some changes to /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf on ovirt-node
(the latest one) However, after reboot the old configuration keeps
coming back.

I tried persist /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf; the file is already
persisted. OK, unpersisted the file, verified the change and persisted
the file once more. Still, after reboot the old file keeps coming back.

How can I make a persistent change to /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf on
ovirt-node (ovirt-node-iso-2.6.1-20120228.fc18.iso)?

[Users] too much debugging in ovirt-node

2013-06-26 Thread Winfried de Heiden
Hi all,

Using ovirt-node-iso-2.6.1-20120228.fc18.iso (2012 seems to be a typo,
must be 2013?) is logging with too much debugging.

Changing all theDEBUG to WARNOMG in /etc/vdsm/logger.conf and
persist /etc/vdsm/logger.conf solved it for /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log.

However, /var/log/libvirtd.log also shows tons of debug messages. The
file /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf shows:

listen_addr=0.0.0.0
unix_sock_group=kvm
unix_sock_rw_perms=0770
auth_unix_rw=sasl
host_uuid=06304eff-1c91-4e1e-86e2-d773621dcab3
log_outputs=1:file:/var/log/libvirtd.log
ca_file=/etc/pki/vdsm/certs/cacert.pem
cert_file=/etc/pki/vdsm/certs/vdsmcert.pem
key_file=/etc/pki/vdsm/keys/vdsmkey.pem

Changing log_outputs=1:file:/var/log/libvirtd.log to
log_outputs=3:file:/var/log/libvirtd.log

with persist (or unpersist first, thn persist) doesn't help. After a
reboot log_outputs=1:file:/var/log/libvirtd.log will appear again.

How to decrease the log level for libvirtd?

Kind regards,

Winfried

So far no reactie about the multicast packet loss..

I bumbed into this bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=880035

This looks the same as the problems I am suffering using oVirt 3.2:
heavy multicast packet loss after some time.

This the bug affect oVirt 3.2 ovirt-node (2.6.1-20120228.fc18)?
Can anyone reproduce the problem (omping between 3 virtual nodes)?

[Users] Cluster corosync mulicast issue

2013-03-13 Thread Winfried de Heiden

Hi all,

I have no idea if it is ovirt related, nevertheless I give it a try.
Playing around with Red Hat Clustering I created a 3 node cluster.

It seems to works fine, but after changing a couple of things
/var/log/messages is flooding with warnings like:

Mar 13 18:13:58 node3 corosync[1560]:   [TOTEM ] Retransmit List: 9b 9c
88 8a 8b 8e 8f 90 91 92 93 94 95 96 97 98 99 9a
Mar 13 18:13:58 node3 corosync[1560]:   [TOTEM ] Retransmit List: 9b 9c

Mar 13 18:13:58 node3 corosync[1560]:   [TOTEM ] Retransmit List: 9b 9c
88 8a 8b 8e 8f 90 91 92 93 94 95 96 97 98 99 9a

It seems multicast related, which all seems fine:

[root@node1 ~]# netstat -g
IPv6/IPv4 Group Memberships
Interface   RefCnt Group
--- -- -
lo  1  all-systems.mcast.net
eth01  239.192.7.246
eth01  all-systems.mcast.net
eth11  all-systems.mcast.net

Testing with omping works well.

OK, I'm using home hardware, but the 3 nodes are doing virtually
nothing. It's on one local network, using local storage etc.

Anyone familiar with this problem? That is: after some heavy
multicasting packages seem not to arrive.

It might be an virtio network thing, ovirt...?

[Users] Spice client USB - Linux

2013-02-28 Thread Winfried de Heiden

Hi all,

As mentioned in the features of oVirt, I should be able to use an
USB-drive on my (Spice) guest.However, the option to choose an USB
device is greyed out in the Spice Console.

Big Uncle RHEV 3.1 tells in
https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/3.1/html/Power_User_Portal_Guide/Using_Desktop-Using_USB_on_VM.html#Using_Desktop-Using_USB_on_VM_Native_PUP
to use Native USB

Am I missing something? Or: I tried using a serverprofile. Is USB
redirection only available using a desktop profile? Anyway: how can I
enable USB on my Spice Client. (Fedora 18)

Kind regards,

Winfried

[Users] ovirt-node; too much logging!

2013-02-25 Thread Winfried de Heiden

Hi all,

Using ovirt-node 3.2, most loggin seems to be set on DEBUG, creating a
bit too much logging:

cat /etc/vdsm/logger.conf
~
[logger_root]
level=DEBUG
handlers=syslog,logfile
propagate=0

[logger_vds]
level=DEBUG
handlers=syslog,logfile
qualname=vds
propagate=0

[logger_Storage]
level=DEBUG
handlers=syslog,logfile
qualname=Storage
propagate=0

[logger_SuperVdsm]
level=DEBUG
handlers=syslog,logfile
qualname=SuperVdsm
propagate=0
~

Trying to change from the console (after F2):
/etc/vdsm
cp logger.conf logger.conf-orig
vi logger.conf
change all DEBUG to WARNING
reboot

Too bad, after the reboot the changes disappeared. I know, this is by
design, the ovirt-node is almost like a live image. Nevertheless; how
can I change de logging (and maybe more) options?

Feature request: decrease logging and make an configuration option in
the admin menu...?!

Re: [Users] What do you want to see in oVirt next?

2013-01-04 Thread Winfried de Heiden

Hi all,

What I like:

  Its open!
  both "thin" oVirt node and "fat" Linux+VDSM.
  Browser based GUI, Firefox supported.
  Spice console works just fine!

What I really would like to include in the coming releases:

  Option to resize disk in user interface and CLI.

  Import, upload, raw and qcow2 images from the web gui and CLI.
Importing VMDK (vmWare) would be nice as well.
  Upload ISO from the web gui.
  What about exporting raw and qcow2 images (and convert to
vmdk)...

  Option to disable "This Browser version isn't optimal for
displaying the application". Ater 10 times it gets anoying.

  Better recovery for the ISO and export domains. Currently, if
I keep my export domain connected a crashing server might cause
problems. After creating a new server en reconnecting the old
export or iso domain, it will say "it is allready connected to
another domain". The export domain is such a nice way to backup
important templates and virtual machines :)

  Multiple ISO domains.
  Both export and ISO domains on local storage, iSCSI, CIFS etc.

Looking forward to the new release!

[Users] oVirt Node 2.5.2 ISO - hostname (command) missing

2012-10-07 Thread Winfried de Heiden

Hi all,

While setting up the network, oVirt node is complaining hostname is
missing. And yes it is: the hostname command is not installed:

[root@localhost vdsm]# which hostname
/usr/bin/which: no hostname in
(/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/root/bin)

2012-08-27 Thread Winfried de Heiden

Hi all,

NOTE: Due to an
issue affecting NFS storage domains and the current Linux
  3.5-based Fedora kernel, we recommend testing with a Fedora
host running a pre-3.5 version of the Linux kernel.

  Any progress on this issue yet?

Hi all,

Importing raw and qcow2 disk images would be a very nice feature for
the next release. :)

   Hello !!

   I'm wondering if it's possible
to import a VM disk
 on qcow2 format
   on oVirt to use it as a VM hard
disk.
   The idea is to import a VMWare
(vmdk) o Xen (ova)
 virtual hdd on oVirt.

   Regards.

 As far as i remember, there is no
way to import just a
 disk,
 only vm/template.
 i guess you could find a way to
create an OVF to
 represent a vm that
 attached to that disk,
 import it and then detach the disk
from the fake vm

 Users@ovirt.org

 but you don't need to convert the vmdk to
qcow2 necessarily -
 take a look at virt-v2v to do this for you,
including changing
 drivers, etc.

 As could could see virt-v2v converts VMWare
ESX/ESXi VMs, but I have
 on VMWare Server 2.x.

Wouldn't it be possible to use VMware converter 3 to migrate
the VMs to
ESX/ESXi type and then use virt-v2v?

  There's an application from Acronis (http://www.acronis.com/backup-recovery/advanced-server-virtual/#red-hat-rhev)
that seems to work (convert Citrix Xen Server and VMWAre
VMs) to RHEV, this should also work on oVirt, don't ?

Re: [Users] ovirt 3.1 and live snapshots

2012-08-13 Thread Winfried de Heiden
Hi All,

Live snapshots is support from qemu 1.1. However, qemu 1.1 is not
included in Fedora 17 or Ovirt-node.

Besides the Virt-preview repo, when is qemu 1.1 expected? Effectively,
there is still no live snapshot support in Ovirt 3.1

 I am afraid you should upgrade qemu manually to 1.1 at least.
 Use the virt-preview repository here

Re: [Users] Online snapshot

2012-06-28 Thread Winfried de Heiden
Hi all,

It seems live snapshot is available in the Fedora 17 qemu-kvm. On my
laptop with kvm, virt-manager, libvirt, virsh etc. I created a virtual
machine and tried to make a live snapshot:

virsh -c qemu:///system
Welcome to virsh, the virtualization interactive terminal.

Type: 'help' for help with commands
   'quit' to quit

virsh # list
 IdName   State

 1 RHEL55_NTP running

virsh # snapshot-create RHEL55_NTP
Domain snapshot 1340871802 created
virsh # snapshot-list RHEL55_NTP
 Name Creation Time State

 1340871724   2012-06-28 10:22:04 +0200 running
 1340871802   2012-06-28 10:23:22 +0200 running

Both my laptop and the Virtio vdsm machine are using the same package:

[root@kvm ~]# rpm -qf `which qemu-kvm`
qemu-system-x86-1.0-17.fc17.x86_64

[wdh@laptop-winfried ~]$ rpm -qf `which qemu-kvm`

Re: [Users] ovirt 3.1 - cannot boot virtual server from CD

2012-06-15 Thread Winfried de Heiden

Hi,

It is not a SELinux issue. I even put SELinux Permissive on both the
manager and the hypervisor node. On the hypervisor node
/var/log/vdsm/libvirt.log tells:

2012-06-15 07:16:32.511+: 11607: error :
virNetClientProgramDispatchError:174 : internal error unsupported
configuration: Readonly leases are not supported

After removing the DVD the machine can start...

What's wrong here?

Winfried

[Users] ovirt 3.1 beta - cannot create new virtual server

2012-06-13 Thread Winfried de Heiden
Hi all,

I created a new Fedora 17 (minimal) machine and ovirt-engine from
http://www.ovirt.org/releases/beta/fedora/17/

The installation and configuration gives no problem.

As a Hypervisor host I use a minimal Fedora 17 as well, vdsm installed
afterwards. The host is registered in the Ovirt Management server, Local
storage is added and everything looks great; until installing my first
virtual machine; the WebGUI will show an error:

Error while executing action New VM from Blank Template: Internal oVirt
Engine Error

/var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log will show:

  Matt's actually off today, but I'm sure he'll answer in more
  detail tomorrow.

  However the reason for getting this error is that your guest isn't one
  of those supported by virt-v2v (which is roughly: RHEL 3/4/5/6 and
  clones, Windows XP and above, Fedora).  If virt-v2v doesn't understand
  the guest, it tries only a very minimal and conservative form of
  conversion.

  It's not clear what this PXE5-test guest is.  You can find out by
  using virt-inspector (on RHEL 6, replace 'virt-inspector' with
  'virt-inspector2'):

  virt-inspector -a /path/to/PXE5-test.img

  For examples see:

http://libguestfs.org/virt-inspector.1.html#xml_format

After restoring the image, I am able to change the network interface
   from rtl8139 to Virtio. However; I cannot change the disk. In the admin
   console going to Virtual Machines -- virtual machine -- Virtual
   Disks -- disk -- Edit gives a menu, but the only option I can change
   is is bootable. Options  like Interface are grey and cannot be
   modified.
  please try via the rest API/sdk/cli, iirc, this is just a UI
limitation.(feel free to open a bug about this)
