You should not use the OVS hook or native implementation. We don't feel this feature is ready and we stopped its development recently. You should look at the OVN implementation, there is a deep dive planned for this soon, please look it up. I understand, you mean a single file restore use case. This is usually done by a agent in the VM and not externally, since changing the file system externally can cause corruption. I can suggest waiting for 4.1 for this as we are adding download ability as well. It is planned to be replaced with the image IO streaming API. With this API you will be able to upload and download VMs disks and snapshots. Re: [ovirt-users] Storage questions
I suggest you setup that environment and test for the performance and report if you have issues. Please note that currently there is no data locality guarantee, so a VM might be running on a host that doesn't have its disks. We have APIs to do backup\restore and that is the only supported option for backup: https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/storage/backup-restore-api-integration/ You can look at the Gluster DR option that was posted a while back, you can look that up. Re: [ovirt-users] Move a VM between 2 setups
In general ever since 3.5 you don't need a export domain to do this. It is advised you use import storage domain feature to do the same thing. You create a new storage domain move VM to it and then remove it and attach it to the new engine. This should be much faster than the export domain. Re: [ovirt-users] VM incremental backup
As I see it you have two options: - In backup use 'dd' with 'conv=sparse' (or similar tool that allows sparse). - After backup use virt-sparsify [1] to reduce the size to the real used size prior to restore. To make this extra efficient you can use virt-sparsify anyways after backup to make the file even smaller. Have you considered this approach?
