Re: [ovirt-users] Auto-restart VM from Linux Shell

You meant this:
https://github.com/machacekondra/ovirt-ansible-example/wiki
https://github.com/machacekondra/ovirt-ansible-example

Seems like overkill for so simple task. If bash scripts works, its OK for now.

"yum clean all" did before posting on oVirt list, same problem.

However, disabling HP-spp repository did the trick, thanks a lot !

[ovirt-users] Q: Optimal settings for DB hosting

2018-01-19 Thread andreil1
Hi !

What is optimal setting for oVirt KVM guests for database hosting on Xeon
server (2 x Xeon 4-core each) (in my case this is Firebird based
accounting/stock control system with several clients active)?

1st of course its preallocated disk image.
VirtO-SCSI enabled
Migration disabled.
Balloning disabled.
CPU shares disabled
Pass-through host CPU enabled

What should be other CPU settings?
For example, Xeon have 2 threads per core, should I set in oVirt 1 or 2 threads
per virtual CPU?
IO Threads on or off?
Any idea of NUMA settings ?

Node running 4 VMs total, CPU load is quite low, RAM is enough to preallocate
for each VM + 4GB for node itself.

Thanks in advance !

I have small node where system and data domains located on the same RAID.
Data domains are on separate partitions.
These options allow minimise disk access activity.

Node 4.2 installed on CentOS, not with node DVD.

[ovirt-users] Q: oVirt 4.2 Clean Node Install Failure

Hi !

I’m installing node software on clean install of Centos 7 (not with node DVD).
Installation from 4.2 engine fails with error message, however, there no
description what exactly error prevented installation.

Repos are initialised with
yum install http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release42.rpm
Any idea what is going wrong ?
Where to look for proper installation commands logs ?

[ovirt-users] 4.18 -> 4.2 Upgrade Erases "ifconfig-ovirtmgmt" at Every Node Restart

2018-01-02 Thread andreil1
Hi !

I upgraded host engine (separate appliance, not hosted) 4.18 -> 4.2, and now on
every restart node01 (right now only 1 node connected) have
"ifconfig-ovirtmgmt” wiped out.
Node was installed on CentOS. Network was configured manually.
Node 4.18 -> 4.2 upgrade from host engine didn’t worked for the reason above.
I manually upgraded node software with "yum update” and new 4.2 repo.
However, every node restart still results in wiped out "ifconfig-ovirtmgmt”,
and therefore, node not accessible from network anymore.

What could be missing from oVirt config which results in this behaviour?

Thanks in advance.

[ovirt-users] Virtualized server & oVirt Node on different subnets

2017-12-19 Thread andreil1
Hi,

I have oVirt node running on internal network, address range 192.168.0.x, and
need to install virtualized server on DMZ zone 192.168.1.x.
Server has several NICs.
DMZ NIC will be connected directly to router with firewall.
What is the best solution ?

1) Undefine one NIC on CentOS host / node, and assign IP on virtualized server
in passthrough mode.
2) Create 2nd oVirtmgmt bridge and link it to NIC on DMZ (if thats possible at
all).

Thanks in advance.

[ovirt-users] Failed Install - oVirt Node "ovirt-node-ng-installer-ovirt-4.1-2017120607"

2017-12-07 Thread andreil1
Hi,

I have strange error of oVrt node install
"ovirt-node-ng-installer-ovirt-4.1-2017120607”
on HP ProLiant ML350 G6 with hardware RAID5 3.6TB just after startup and
language selection:
anaconda 21.48.22.121-1
traceback …
…./parted/disk.py, line 246 in add partition
….
partition exception: unable to satisfy all constraints on the partition

I started this server with OpenSuSE Leap 42.3 DVD, RAID 5 volume is being seen
correctly by partitioner as unformatted.

Installing CentOS 7 results in same error when automatic partitioning selected.
May be for whatever reason installer can’t load “hpsa” module ?

How to solve this problem ?
Thanks in advance

[ovirt-users] oVirt 4.1 - "Create virtual disk - thin provisioning" makes RAW by default not QCOW2

2017-11-13 Thread andreil1
Hi,

Just got test setup of oVirt 4.1 running.
Seem to be really brilliant piece of software.

1) Defined local storage domain.

Create virtual disk - thin provisioning makes RAW images by default instead of
QCOW2.
It preallocated all space in advance.
I looked inside META file in the same folder as disk image - it is marked as
RAW.

May be its converted to RAW because I formatted it as 3 partitions: SWAP + Boot
Ext4 + Root Ext4 ?
Should I use single Ext4 partition per virtual disk image to keep it QCOW2 ?

Is there any way to change this behaviour, or convert RAW into QCOW2 within
oVirt? Certainly I can do it with QEMU, but image become unregistered, or may
be some functionality become broken.

2) SWAP partition - is it better to create small 1GB SWAP as RAM disk or use
4GB partition on virtual RAW disk, or I’m wrong here ?

Thanks in advance.
