Re: [ovirt-users] unhappiness with ovirt engine after upgrading file server handling storage domain

2017-05-10 Thread plysan
did you restart your nfs service or reboot your nfs host during the upgrade
progress ?
if you did, what's the webadmin portal's storage domain's status at the
time ?

what i'm suspecting is that you were restarting nfs while ovirt-engine is
using it.

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt locate disk VM

2017-05-09 Thread plysan
You can find the disk id in the "Disk" tab of webadmin portal, then go to
the nfs directory you are using, and find that id, it is the very disk you
are looking for.

Re: [ovirt-users] Is windows sso still working on ovirt 4.1 ?

2017-05-08 Thread plysan
Solved by the additional configuration in
https://github.com/Seitanas/kvm-vdi/blob/master/guest_agent/README.md

It seems that ovirt-guest-tools-iso-4.1-3.fc24.noarch doesn't provide any
credential providers dll, is there any reason why it's not included in the
upstream ?

thanks

Re: [ovirt-users] i meet some problems of ovirt3.6.2

2016-03-31 Thread plysan
Hi, 赵亮

just be aware that you have to wait for some time(maybe several minutes to
10 min) before ha vms can reboot on other hosts.

I want to know from the time you reboot the host:
what warning log did you see on webadmin ui?
how the host status changes during this time
and could you provide the output of /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log please
? just the new output from the time you reboot the host, and for several
minues after that.

thanks

Re: [ovirt-users] i meet some problems of ovirt3.6.2

2016-03-30 Thread plysan
Hi Zhao,

This is not a bug. you reboot the host without letting ovirt engine knowing
it, ovirt engine will think there must be something wrong going on with the
host, and IIRC will trigger some mechanism to fence the host(ssh soft
fence, power management, etc). In this circumstances, If the vms are not ha
vms, these vms will not auto restart on other normal hosts.

You can edit the vms as highly available to make the vm auto reboot on
other host.

Hi Zhao,

Did you reboot the host manually from the host itself (outside of ovirt
ui)? Have you setup the host with power management in ovirt ui?

Cheers

The zanata source text is generated from default values from the
 ovirt

   source

code. Einav should know more about exactly how that is done. You
 should
always
match the translation to the source and not the other way around. So
 I

   am not

sure why you are trying to change the source.

Alexander is correct; the source text cannot and should not be changed
   directly in Zanata.

in order to update the source (English) text in Zanata, it needs to be
pushed to Zanata from the source code.

generally, we are not updating anything in Zanata for 3.5 anymore,
 since
   we are not planning any additional translation cycles for ovirt 3.5;
however, since we are planning out-of-cycle possible updates for the
   German
and Italian translation as an exception for 3.5, it *may* also involve
pushing the updated source text to Zanata as part of the process, but
 this
will not happen any time soon, to my understanding.

I am not sure if you were trying to pull the latest translations from
   Zanata
and then build ovirt-engine-3.5, or simply tried to build
 ovirt-engine-3.5
   as is;
if you were trying to build ovirt-engine-3.5 as-is and failed, that's
 bad
   -
we need to fix that ASAP (however, I am pretty sure that we would have
   been
notified about this issue already from jenkins / other people / etc.).
I recommend to not attempt pulling the translations from Zanata
 yourself,
as the pull itself is not enough - need to move some files around, run
 a
   few
clean-up scripts, etc. If you still want to pull the translations
   yourself,
and you are encountering problems as the ones you mentioned above -
 simply
remove/fix the problematic translations *locally on the .properties
   files
that you pulled from Zanata - NOT in Zanata itself*.

  Thanks for your responses.

If I want to make some translation updates in zh_CN, Is it means that the
workflow is first modifying ovirt source code translations and then
 update
  it to zanata ?
But zanata has a user friendly UI and has features that translator likes.
So I think first modifying translations in zanata and then update it to
 the
source code is better. Just my thoughts :)

The flow for some new text is the following:

 1. The developer writes some new functionality.
 2. The developer writes the *English* default message for that
 functionality.
This includes a key to be used by the translators.
 3. Some process takes those new message(s) and puts the *English*
 translation
 and the key into zanata.
 4. The translator sees the key AND the English version in zanata and
 provides
 the localized version in zanata.
 5. Some process pulls the translation from zanata and puts it into the
 source
 code (In a properties file).

As you can see by the workflow the translator simply translated the English
version of some message in zanata and that then automatically gets into the
source code without the translator having to do anything besides that. Once
you have made the change in zanata it will eventually end up in the
 project.
The process in step 5 is not automatic.

Now if you want to change a message in a particular locale and immediately
 see
it, then you have manually modify the properties file for the locale you
 are
interested in and compile the project.

Thanks for your answer, I think for now I'll just update to the zanata
project and compile it myself :P

  thanks.

According to the log he is looking for the INJECT_EXTERNAL_EVENTS action
  group, on the System.
I guess it means this action group isn't part of the SuperUser role.

Eli - you commit ecd7658c42b799d8632372de9fc6695a22705435 shows you added
this action group, but not added to the SuperUser role.
What was the reason for that?
I also don't see an option to add this action group to roles.
Maybe only the API supports creating a new custom role with this action
  group.

Re: [ovirt-users] Backup solution using the API

2014-12-03 Thread plysan
Hi,

For the live-backup, i think you can make a live snapshot of the vm, and
then clone a new vm from that snapshot, after that you can do export.

2014-11-27 23:12 GMT+08:00 Keppler, Thomas (PEBA) thomas.kepp...@kit.edu:

  Hello,

now that our oVirt Cluster runs great, I'd like to know if anybody has
done a backup solution for oVirt before.

My basic idea goes as follows:
 - Create a JSON file with machine's preferences for later restore, create
a snapshot, snatch the disk by its disk-id (copy it to the fileserver),
then deleting the snapshot and be done with it.
 - On restore I'd just create a new VM with the Disks and NICs specified in
the preferences; then I'd go ahead and and put back the disk... t

I've played a little bit around with building a JSON file and so far it
works great; I haven't tried to make a VM with that, though...

Using the export domain or a simple export command is not what I want
since you'd have to turn off the machine to do that - AFAIK. Correct me if
 that should not be true.

Now, before I go into any more hassle, has somebody else of you done a
live-backup solution for oVirt? Are there any recommendations? Thanks for
 any help provided!

 Best regards
 Thomas Keppler

Hello,

After I adding a AD directory server to oVirt using manage-domains, I
installed the extension-ldap package. My setup is as follows:

1. /etc/ovirt-engine/extensions.d/eayunos.properties

ovirt.engine.extension.name = eayunos

ovirt.engine.extension.provides = org.ovirt.engine.api.extensions.aaa.Authz
config.profile.file.1 =
/usr/share/ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap/profiles/ad.properties

 Hi,

You need to refer to ad.properties from your profile, in this profile you
need to specify credentials and settings to access the active directory.

For example, how can the implementation guess where your active directory
is? what is the user that is to be used to access it?

Please follow extension configuration[1] and create two extensions per
 documentation.
 1. authn - authentication
 2. authz - authorization.

Both extensions should refer to your profile[2] that specifies the
 required information.

 Regards,
 Alon

well, the tricky part is web ui access the engine, which doesn't access
the storage, rather the hosts do, so you need to stream it via the engine.
good news are vdsm has now upload/download api's which should hopefully
pave the way for this to materialize.

another problem is upload large file( usually over 2G ) in web pages.
my thoughs on this is to split large file in small chunks and merge it on
server( engine side )
there are paid software available like PLupload but we may implement by
ourselves, right ?

another approach is not upload using http, but this would be complex for
users.

[ovirt-users] Should we add 'cow' format disk in file domains in frontend UI ?

2014-09-01 Thread plysan
Hello,

We had experience that if we clone vm from snapshot with sprase raw disk in
file domains, the process would get very slow if the disk defined virtual
size is big but actual size is small, so i popose the frontend UI to be
able to add caw disk in file domains.

And I'm happy to implement it. I want to know if there is any problem with
my theory, I'm not so experienced in storage. And I created a more detailed
expanation to address this problem:

I'm afraid there's no other better solutions for engine HA without

But do you mean the architecture mentioned in

If yes, I'll say this is a complex task which is currently just some

hosted-engine has built-in HA mechanism for the engine, so if the host

Subject: [ovirt-users] Question about power user and public template

Hi,

Currently I have run into a problem about permissions when creating
 vm
   from
template.

Say if non admin user A in power user portal want to create vm from
   template
C created by non admin user B, I found out that A need to have both
 power
user role and userbasedtemplatevm role to make it work. If i only
 assign
userbasedtemplatevm to C, A can only view the template in power user
   portal
but not able to create vm from it.

I'd say the problem is that the template has some disks and as a
   UserTemplateBasedVm only you are
not allowed to Access Image Storage Domains?

Thanks for pointing that out, I really didn't think the disk has
  permissions too :)

Because PowerUserRole has more permissions than UserTemplateBasedVm, so I
think assigning PowerUserRole is enough to see the template in power user
portal. Based on this thought, I did the following two experiment:

  1. I assigned PowerUserRole to user A in Configure - System Permissions,
but after that I still cannot see template C in power user portal.
The above role assignment result in user A having PowerUserRole inherited
from System Permission, and based on [1], user A should have
 PowerUserRole
  on template C, right ?

yes, you should be able to verify this in the webadmin-template main
 tab-permissions subtab

  2. Now based on 1 if I explicitly add PowerUserRole to user A on template
C, I can see template C and create vms from it.

but it should already be there. And also, since you have created the
template as public everyone should have the
UserTemplateBasedVm on it. You could verify this on the same subtab.

I think my experiment above is not clear enough, so I made another one, and
found the following behavior:
1. If user has only PowerUser role which is inherited from system on a
template, he cannot see the template on userportal. And base on this if
UserTemplateBasedVm role is added to the user, the user can see it in
userportal now.
2. If user has only PowerUser role assigned independently (not inherited
from system) on a template, he can see the template in userportal.

IIUC, PowerUser role inherited from system should have the same behavior
with PowerUser role assigned independently.

Ideas ?

---
Thanks
plysan

For my understanding, the above two role assignment should have the same
  result.

  Any ideas?

so, if you have a template on which everyone has UserTemplateBasedVm
and a user with PowerUserRole and you can not see it in the userportal,
it should be a bug. But for me it seems working on current upstream code...

  [1]:
  http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/engine-devel/2012-December/003229.html

For details about specific roles and what can be done by which role you
   can have a look at:
webadmin - Configure in top right corner - Roles side tab -
 pick a
   specific role - Edit button

So is this the expected behavior? I don't quite understand what
userbasedtemplatevm is used for. I noticed that making template C
 public
have the effect of assign userbasedtemplatevm to everyone, but that
 seems
not enough to let everyone use it.

My engine version is 3.3.4.

Any ideas? thanks for any help!

Hi plysan, apologies for the late response (was OOO without
 internet connectivity last week).

what we can do (maybe that's what you meant - not sure) is to make
sure that when we auto-generate the 'on the fly' English .properties
files (as part of the process of pushing the English strings), they
are generated already in the proper naming and location, just so the
matching zh-CN files will eventually be created with the similar
(proper) naming and location once pulled from Zanata.

Yes, this is what i meant.

this will result in changed documents' names and paths in Zanata, i.e.
Zanata will actually identify these newly-named-and-located documents
as 'new' documents, rather than 'updated' docuemnts, so this process
is a little bit risky (existing translations may be lost) so we must
do it carefully, therefore it may take a while to complete (I need to
consult the Zanata people in order to find out what is the best way
 to address this issue).

It's really good to hear you can try to improve this.

Really appreciated :)

4. execute pull -s {po files directory} -t {ovirt engine direstory}

I will test this out, once I found the jboss module directory..

I think the runtime directory is in /usr/share/ovirt-engine/modules, after
ps aux |grep ovirt

 In the meantime:

Would ovirt-devs consider it save to sideload my own
 jboss module?

I know this will get painful to maintain once I want to upgrade
 so I'm already asking:

Is there a chance as a first step to include a custom
syslog handler jboss module into ovirt (for jboss 7.2) ?

I think oVirt uses jboss-modules-maven-plugin to create a module,
If you want to create one, the syslog handler in your case,
you may create a subproject containing the java code and
tweak some of the pom.xml adding the jboss-modules-maven-plugin config,
as the other modules do.

Later this could get expanded to easily allow to use syslog..

Re: [Users] [Engine-devel] centralized Logging engine and hypervisor

2014-03-20 Thread plysan
yeah, I'll try :)

First: Thanks for the fast answer!

Second: I decided that this is a much too painful
hack into ovirt regarding maintainability, thus
I will let ovirt log into files like it does already
 and pipe those into syslog.

But it would be cool if you could work towards
integrating this feature into ovirt in the future, maybe
 for 3.5 or 4.0.

So I created an RFE at:

 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1078738

I think many large data centers could use this feature
as most people tend to have centralized logging already.

Re: [Users] Source code unerstanding

 Hey,

is there a simpler way to know which code is responsible for which module
 of the engine.

If you import the code from eclipse, you can get a good overview of the
engine code by looking at project names.

is there a documentation maintained. or how can identify the files which
 are important for me.

There are some good docs in the wiki if you do some research, but still
many places to be fulfilled.
I think a good starting point of reading the code is the many entry points
inside EJB such as Backend.java
You can search classes marked with @Singleton, @Startup and methods marked
with @PostConstruct, it acts like main functions in regular executable java
programs.

Hope it helps :)
