What do you mean? That article only reads to me that Mozilla isn't itself interested in making enhancements to Thunderbird, but will continue to maintain it for security updates and community contributions. This sounds fine to me because, besides LDAP editing directly in Thunderbird, and a revamped address book (which is in the works) what else does it even need? Things that come to mind: - SIEVE and managesieve support - IMAP ACL support including a GUI to manage ACLs - a protocol independent addressbook - CardDAV support for addressbook - read/write LDAP support for addressbook incl. a cache for offline usage - notes - a reasonable way to set/entforce company wide policies for business use - enhanced autoconfiguration It sounds to me like there's no cause for alarm. Everyone is moving to the cloud. Applications become web-applications. People like web applications because they don't need to configure them. They only need to login. Browsers are becoming universal clients executing any kind of application you can think of. Look at what the recent years added to browsers: Offline caches, HTML 5, ability to run C-code applications within the browser. The days of many desktop clients are counted. It makes sense for Mozilla to drop the desktop client Thunderbird. It's time they moved on. Mozilla is the OSS Desktop Client Company per se and desktop clients are a dying species. That probably explains why they gather all ressources around Firefox OS. My problem with them dropping Thunderbird is, I don't see some important problems solved that should be solved before everyone uses webclients. Webclients assume you are always online, but - at least in Germany - being always online still is more of a marketing promise than a usable reality. I don't see how I would always have enough bandwidth to download everything required to run a fat web client that does mail. Neither do I see my browser being able to do what a mail client can do in offline mode. How would you use your mail/groupware client when you are offline in a browser? Tell a sales person he will have to use a webclient that does mail to download contract papers while he's on the road somewhere in the outback… But then - I was told so - that's not a problem for Mozilla because they never promised Thunderbird would be a good business mail client. Mozillas target group for Thunderbird was/is private users. So by their standards they aren't breaking a promise. Problem is: Thunderbird seems to be the only acceptable mail client that runs on all desktop platforms. When it will be gone costs will increase if you need to provide a groupware/mail client on more than one platform. The big question for me is: Thunderbird seems to play a major role in SOGos client model. What will SOGo/inverse do? Fork Thunderbird and maintain a dedicated SOGo client? [SOGo] Syncing Multiple Calendars with Funambol to Outlook
We just deployed a SOGo install for a customer and I noted only the Personal Calendar gets synced to an Outlook Calendar using the Funambol Sync Client. It's been so long that I used Outlook with SOGo, I can't tell whether it is simply not possible to sync multiple calendars or if we are doing something wrong. It is possible to sync multiple calendars with the Funambol Sync Client to Outlook? I'd be happy to test the packages. I've just put them online for the nightly builds: http://inverse.ca/ubuntu-nightly/pool/precise/ To use them, add the following to sources.list: deb http://inverse.ca/ubuntu-nightly precise precise Then add our gpg pubkey: sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv-key 0x810273C4 sudo apt-get update And install sogo: apt-get install sogo All this is very lightly tested right now, so of course your feedback is very welcome. Glad you like it! automx unifies two proprietary standards from Microsoft and Mozilla. Both use http(s) for client and server communication. Mozilla uses a GET request and transmits a mail address. Microsoft uses a POST request and sends an XML file which may contain more than a mail address. Microsoft and Mozilla send their data to different URLs. That makes it easy to tell them apart and return something they will accept as account profile. In either case the server (automx) sends an XML response. I'm still not 100% sure what the tool does: It would be enough to know your name, mail and password to setup an account? And that in a couple of different mail clients, right? Exactly. As simple as that. So if I already setup mozillas autoconfig (https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Thunderbird/Autoconfiguration) and only use Thunderbird, it would be the same result, wouldn't it? Yes, with the two significant differences: - automx is ONE TOOL that provides service for clients (TB, KMail, Kontact and - rumor - some Android mobiles) following MOZILLAs standard and clients (Outlook 2003+, MS Mobiles) following MICROSOFTs way of client account profile provisioning. - automx can serve dynamic profiles for many domains i.e. not only one static file, but e.g. lookup user specific settings in a database or LDAP server and return a profile especially built for that one user/group. You can, for example, have two MDAs (Exchange/SOGo) and tell group A to use Exchange and group B to use SOGo. You can also script it. Take a look at the section_filter feature. Re: [SOGo] Migration from an existent PostFix + OpenLdap directory
* Carlos Paz users@sogo.nu: let me describe it a bit more: 1. I want to migrate 1000 mailboxes (around 40 Gb) from an old Postfix server to a new server with Sogo 1.3, is there any tool or procedure to acomplish that? Postfix (SMTP) means transporting and storing mail on a server. How do you deliver it to clients? IMAP? POP? If you have IMAP, then IMAP is the way to go. 2. The 1000 mailboxes are binded to LDAP, so I think I will need to migrate them from the old Openldap directory to Sogo. Also I'm looking for a tool or any procedure to complish that. Assuming you have IMAP on the old server: 1. Setup your new LDAP/SOGO server including its IMAP component. 2. Use imapsync http://freecode.com/projects/imapsync to copy messages including their state (unread/read and other tags) to the new machine. If you use dovecot on both sides, consider using dsync to sync mailboxes. If you run imapsync/dsync regularly you can conduct a soft migration without anyone noticing. Just let the sync process run regularly. It will copy over everything the first time and only fetch the delta in successive runs. p@rick Thanks in advance for any help. I am asking because we have been asked by a customer if we could integrate SOGo into their provisioning and my first idea was to use the Python API, because what we would need goes well beyond what sogo-tool can do. You're impatient ;-) Here's the current state: 1. everything works! 2. we need to define stubs/hooks (ideas provided are good so far) 3. we need to implement stubs/hooks - in the SOGo code 4. we need to package corebase and PyObjc in RHEL5/6/Debian/Ubuntu - help would be great here We might be able to help with that. 5. we need to update GNUstep in Debian/GNUstep with new packages - help would be great here Same here. 6. we need to provide sample bundles with Python code in them implementing various stubs/hooks The goal is to integrate this in SOGo v2.0.0. Here's the real impatient questions: When will you release 2.0. Don't tell me when it's done. That one has been reserved for Wietse and Postfix. ;) p@rick -- state of mind () http://www.state-of-mind.de Franziskanerstraße 15 Telefon +49 89 3090 4664 81669 München Telefax +49 89 3090 4666 Amtsgericht MünchenPartnerschaftsregister PR 563 -- users@sogo.nu https://inverse.ca/sogo/lists
[SOGo] ZEG limitations
Will ALL currently Known Issues or Limitations of Version 2.0.0beta3 be gone when the stable 2.0 will be released? I am asking because a customer is interested to hook their Outlook clients to a groupware server and I'd recommend SOGo if some of them will be gone in the near future. The stoppers on my list are: - You cannot have access to shared resources (calendars and address books) nor can you share your resources from Microsoft Outlook. - All mail folders other than the “Inbox”, “Drafts” and “Sent Items” will be located under the “Inbox” folder. It is possible to create mail folders only underneath the “Inbox” folder. Note: This seems like a Cyrus IMAP feature/limitation to me. Would it be gone if SOGo where to use Dovecot instead? - It is not possible to rename or delete mail folders. [SOGo] sieve: Proxy Error
I'm having problems activating SIEVE rules on my sogo 1.3.11 (I had them on previous versions too) and I am kind of stuck debugging this. Creating a SIEVE rule is no problem. I can add another SIEVE rule (currently about 60 rules) and save it. Re: [SOGo] smtp-auth
* Beat Horn users@sogo.nu: thanks for all your answers. There is no mailserver on that machine (yet) - the idea was to setup a slim and performant solution communicating with ah existing external hosters mailserver. this could be done with tine or Yes. I understood that idea. Its a product use case SOGo developers might not have on their list (yet). oxchange but those are either slow or not slim at all. Maybe I should consider postfix as proposed. But still I think that smtp auth included in SOGo would be a good idea. +1 p@rick rgds Beat 2011/10/16 Patrick Ben Koetter p...@state-of-mind.de * Martin Rabl users@sogo.nu: Update ... ;-) Am 16.10.11 22:01, schrieb Martin Rabl: Am 16.10.11 19:53, schrieb starfish: looks like many people miss smtp-auth. will it be available in SOGo 2 ? Strictly speaking an SMTP server that accepts messages from SOGo becomes an MSA (message submission agent). MSAs are special, because messages originiate from MSAs. Messages enter the mail transfer at the MSA and then relays and border filters (vulgo: Gateway) transfer it closer to the final destination where it they are delivered to an MDA. As an MSA the SMTP server has the special role to ensure the message conforms to Internet standards (complete envelope addresses etc.) and the MSA must (!) ensure the message was submitted only by authorized senders. The RFC for Submission states a client MUST use SMTP AUTH before it authorizes the client to submit the message and it MAY use TLS (to protect weak AUTH mechanisms). I think if SOGo and MTA/MSA are on the same host, it should suffice to create a dedicated server instance that lets only clients from 127.0.0.1 submit messages and do the MSA checks at this level. Do me a favor and install tcpflow :) tcpflow -c -i lo tcp port 2 I sent output to you offlist for privacy reasons. In the meantime I was able to make some progress! 1. Aliases in :addresses I can enable vacation IF I reduce the number of :addresses. My list of aliases in LDAP currently has 13 aliases. I reduced them in the SOGo interface to one and was able so store my vacation rule right away. AFAIK there should be no limit to :addresses. So maybe there's a bug hiding somewhere. 2. * m_bru...@cs.uni-kl.de users@sogo.nu: here are my postconf -n data, I removed some sensitive data, but I think this should be enough for debugging: alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases append_dot_mydomain = no Debian, eh? biff = no broken_sasl_auth_clients = yes config_directory = /etc/postfix home_mailbox = .mailbox/ inet_protocols = ipv4 That's default. You don't need to set $inet_protocols. mailbox_command = /usr/lib64/dovecot/deliver mydestination = all domains, localhost myhostname = main domain myhostname = $mydomain mynetworks = localhost IP and domain Do not add a host or domainname to $mynetworks. It will work ONLY if your DNS works and Postfix is able to resolve the domain or hostname. Rather go this way: mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8, IP/range myorigin = /etc/mailname This setting is often broken on Debian systems. I recommend using the hosts real name as $myorigin applies to system accounts: myorigin = $myhostname If you do this don't forget to add $myhostname to the list of domains in $mydestinations. readme_directory = no recipient_delimiter = + relayhost = smtp_sasl_auth_enable = no smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtp_scache smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Ubuntu) smtpd_client_restrictions = smtpd_data_restrictions = reject_unauth_pipelining smtpd_helo_required = yes smtpd_helo_restrictions = reject_invalid_hostname You have this: smtpd_recipient_restrictions = permit_mynetworks, permit_sasl_authenticated, reject_unauth_destination, reject_invalid_hostname, reject_unknown_sender_domain, check_policy_service inet:127.0.0.1:10023 I recommend rearranging and adding some options at the beginning. They assure you only send mail that actually can be transported to other hosts: smtpd_recipient_restrictions = reject_non_fqdn_sender, reject_non_fqdn_recipient,, reject_unknown_sender_domain, reject_unknown_recipient_domain, permit_mynetworks, permit_sasl_authenticated, reject_unauth_destination, reject_invalid_hostname, check_policy_service inet:127.0.0.1:10023 smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtpd_sasl_local_domain = smtpd_sasl_path = smtpd smtpd_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtpd_sasl_type = cyrus $smtpd_sasl_type defaults to cyrus. You don't need to set it. smtpd_sender_restrictions = reject_non_fqdn_sender, reject_unknown_sender_domain Drop smtpd_sender_restrictions if you follow my recommendation from above on smtpd_recipient_restrictions. smtpd_tls_auth_only = yes smtpd_tls_cert_file = ssl pem smtpd_tls_key_file = ssl key smtpd_tls_security_level = may smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtpd_scache So far so good. You might want to spend more time adding more anti-spam stuff. Your sending problem could/should be gone once you localhost in $mynetworks with 127.0.0.0/8. If not run the Postfix smtpd daemon verbose by adding '-v' at the end of the line that invokes smtpd in master.cf. You should probably send the output to the Postfix mailing list. Re: [SOGo] ANN: SOGo v1.3.8
* Dennis Petschull users@sogo.nu: can you also confirm, that calendar and addressbook sharing is not working anymore now? I can't confirm that part of the problem. I was able to subscribe already existing calendars and addressbooks. p@rick Am 16.07.2011 21:46, schrieb Patrick Ben Koetter: * Francis Lachapelle users@sogo.nu: On 2011-07-15, at 10:59 AM, Ladislav Pašek wrote: my multi-domain config stop working after update. I have to switch to single domain config that is working. There some changes in multi-domain config syntax? .GNUstepDefaults.txt Does the mail domains of your users addresses match the domains used in your configuration file of SOGo? If they do match, change them. For example, instead of using prodex.sk, use prodex-sk. As long as you don't use the new SOGoLoginDomains setting, the domains keys defined in your .GNUstepDefaults are never shown. Confirmed. Once I changed the domains name to differ from SOGoMailDomain I could login again. Is this change intentional and I missed to read the relevant documentation or is it a bug? p@rick -- users@sogo.nu https://inverse.ca/sogo/lists -- state of mind () http://www.state-of-mind.de Franziskanerstraße 15 Telefon +49 89 3090 4664 81669 München Telefax +49 89 3090 4666 Amtsgericht MünchenPartnerschaftsregister PR 563 -- users@sogo.nu https://inverse.ca/sogo/lists
