Sorry for the late reply.
After reading the log with lightning, I figured out what the problem was
for us.
Lightning does indeed try to refresh the event as soon as it is created,
however our SOGo installation always returned a HTTP404 not found for
the event entry. I tried the same link in the

We setup our own sogo server installation and everything works fine, except
one little (albeit quite annoying) thing.
We are using the Thunderbird Integrator and it integrates everything just
fine. All the subscribed calendars and address books show up.
