Why windows - especially from 2003. If app is in java you'll get huge
performance boost moving to linux.

Should be fine.
I don't recall any SmartOs specific questions / issues before this one
so providing a suitable JVM is available then Tomcat should run as well
on SmartOS as any other operating system.
