There's no reason to read some "how to guide" on the Internet for how
to build mod_jk: the building steps come with the source package, and
they are up-to-date instead of some guy's blog that requires root
privileges to run properly.

Increment XX:PermSize for Tomcat 7 on Windows 2012R2

2014-05-12 Thread Lorenzo Fini
Hi,
I'm trying to increment the PermSize on Tomcat 7.
I added -XX:PermSize in the java options launching tomcat7w,
causing Tomcat to not load and to give me the following error on Windows
Server 2012R2:

Unrecognized VM option 'PermSize=256m '

The same configuration was working on Windows Server 2007.
I was able to start the server adding -XX:PermSize=256m inside double
quotes,
now the question is.. is it the right way?

It's only desktop/consumer XP that has timed out. Server 2003 support
runs about another year. XP Embedded has about two more years.

To close a vulnerability, "To denying the request if it comes

 defaultHost

You didn't need to do this. Instead, you could make a smaller change
that introduces a new within your existing engine. The name of
the host would be the IP-address of the server instead of its DNS name.

I'm curious as to why you think that responding to a request that uses
the server's IP address is a vulnerability.

But Due this change we are losing logging in localhost.log in logs
folder of TOMCAT, Please suggest how to redirect console logging to
a given file or how to retain the localhost.log file of tomcat.

The console log goes to catalina.out regardless of the Engine, Host,
etc. If you didn't configure a logger for your host, I think you'll
get nothing.

You will need to modify conf/logging.properties to route messages for
your new to the existing "localhost" log file.

Kindly also let us know instead of above settings any other
configuration setting will make denial of any request if it comes
through IP address instead of DNS.

You could also install a Filter into your web application that simply
rejects all requests whose Host header does not match your DNS
hostname. No configuration in Tomcat would be necessary: just a new
class in your web application and (possibly) a bit of configuration in
your WEB-INF/web.xml file.

Hope that helps,

I don't believe so. There is work being done on supporting Websocket
through mod_proxy but it will likely never support Comet.

Only some Apache httpd MPMs are one-thread-per-connection.

I think that httpd + Tomcat is not going to work, here. I'm not sure

I haven't looked at the code, yet, but don't sell yourself short. You
are trying to do some interesting work (the audio stuff) and then slap
some plumbing around it to get it to work. This is uncharted territory
for you. It may be a mess, but having other people look at your code
is a good way to improve.

If I knew I could get a PhD by writing a servlet, I'd have done it a
long time ago :)

This might have to do with the error you are getting. See below.

It sounds like your web application is restarting itself -- probably
due to modifications to the code. When Tomcat is configured to
auto-reload applications, you can trigger a re-load by re-compiling a
class. In something like NetBeans, that's probably trivial do to...
just save the file and it will probably re-compile and re-deploy.

Try not doing that when running your tests... it may solve a great
deal of your problems.

You are definitely re-loading your web application. When this happens,
a new copy of the webapp is deployed and can handle requests with your
new code. If the old code is still actively running (i.e. still
processing a request), you can get .. confusing results.

You should take a thread dump [1] when this happens. It will tell you
what code is (still) executing. Make sure you do it before you make
another request to your web application.

The web application has officially stopped, but some code is still
trying to operate within it. If you have a long-running request that
survives the re-start (as evidenced above), then you'll get weird
errors like this.

To close a vulnerability, "To denying the request if it comes through IP

But Due this change we are losing logging in localhost.log in logs folder
