Sorry I forgot to add that I have fixed this issue. I think it was because I
didn't apply it to the a panel.

Have you tried it outside of Eclipse?
Create yourself a quick start and run it from the console.
Also that stack trace could be usefull.

Which version of wicket are your using?
I remember AjaxSelfUpdatingTimerBehavior was not working in 6.3.0
