2008-03-17 Thread Frantisek Kall
A month ago we tested 1.2 ver. XWiki and there wasn't problem to set up
Active Directory authentication. Now we are going to start XWiki for
enterprise use and we had a problem to setup AD authentication with

Hi,

Couldn't changing the skin/look and feel of a page be done from a menu pull
down/ selection to make that functionality more accessible to non-coders?

It would be funny to check if specifying a default template in the
document will help implement this use case.

See ViewAction.java line 95.

Of course we don't have any UI to specify a page's template right now
but that could be added I guess.

Thanks

Hi Gabriela,

I am not sure what are you looking for, but I think that you must we
aware about the fact that no new table is created when you create a new
space. In fact a new space exists when a page is created on it. And it
will be removed when all the pages belonging to it are deleted. So, new
pages/spaces are stored in the predefined database structure.

XWiki has its own methods that will probably allow you to get what you
want. For instance, look at the My Recent Modifications panel code:

#set($recentDocs = $xwiki.searchDocuments(where 1=1 and
doc.author='$context.user' order by doc.date desc, 5, 0))

#if($recentDocs.size()  0 || $showEmptyPanels)
#panelheader($msg.get(My Recent Modifications))
#set($first = true)
#foreach($docname in $recentDocs)
#set($rdoc = $xwiki.getDocument($docname).getTranslatedDocument())
#if($first == true)
#set($first = false)
#else
span class=pitemseparator | /span
#end
span class=panelitema
href=$rdoc.getURL(view)$rdoc.displayTitle/a/span

#end
#panelfooter()
#end

The first Velocity directive, #set, uses a method searchDocuments() of
the $xwiki class to pass a given set of documents to $recentDocs. Its
argument contents pure SQL: where 1=1 and doc.author='$context.user'
order by doc.date desc :-)

On the other hand, it is possible to use SQL within XWiki. See this
Groovy snippet...

%
import groovy.sql.Sql
db = Sql.newInstance(jdbc:mysql://YourHots/YourDatabase, username,
password, com.mysql.jdbc.Driver)
List YourResults = db.rows('SELECT * FROM tablename s where field1 like
I and field2 like A and field=1')

%

It allows you to use SQL statements and get the results on your XWiki
page. It, of course, can ask XWiki schema as well.

Hope this helps,

Ricardo

Re: [xwiki-users] XWiki WorkSpaces for public service

2008-03-17 Thread Jerome Velociter
 Congratulation to the XWiki team for the first release! and thanks for
 your
 replies.

 I didn't realize I'v tried it before your release notice! :-) (as I
 thought
 it was released some time in the last week) Anyway, I've been actively
 waiting for it.

 The key decision is just whether I should use XE and copy the XWS
 functions,
 or hack the code and request for features to allow XWS be used for public
 service. It seems obviously that the latter option is much better. As
 mentioned before, it's for a JUG. The use cases are straightforward:

- a global blog+wiki+photo that is readable by anonymous users and
editable by a few committee members, (maybe comment by registered
 users)
- Some spaces for collaboration works that any registered member are
editable, and
- every user could create his own space.

 The functions are pretty much there already. The key missing thing is just
 making the global space publicly accessible. I'll fire some Jira issues
 later.  Thanks.

If you are ready to look under the hood, we can definitely help you
realizing that. Actually having your organization's space visible by
unregistered users is not very hard. Once its created, you can do as
follow (logged as Admin):

- Click the Administration link in the XWiki toolbar
- Click the Space rights tab in the administration page
- Select your organization top-level space in the drop-down list (the one
without any suffix: Space_MyOrganization, not Space_MyOrganization_Wiki or
Space_MyOrganization_Blog)
- Once its loaded, click twice the checkbox for unregistered users under
view to have it green-checked (it should appear with a red circle at
first).
- ... and your done! The _Wiki, _Blog, etc. spaces will inherit their
rights from that top-level one, so you shouldn't have anything to do for
them.

If you want to have registered users able to comment, you can check the
comment box for XWikiAllGroup as well.

Hope this helps,
Jerome.

 every

 XE can do everything. It's a second generation wiki. All XWiki products

 want
 in the way you want them to be (you can imagine any kind of use case).

 XWS is definitely meant to be a wrapper around XE to make it simpler and
 to provide a solution which is oriented towards personal work spaces

 you can share with others. XE is generic, XWS implements a specific
 solution
 based on work groups.

 Thus if XWS matches your needs you should definitely use it over XE.

space name and url? basically, the use of Space_ as prefix look
 quite odd
to me and i would like to remove it. And if it is possible i would
 want to
make the url shorter. Currently, it's something like:
http://mydomain.com/xwiki/bin/view/Space_username/;, i am able to
remove the context xwiki, and i suppose it shouldn't be difficult
 to turn
Space_username to username. It's most desirable to turn bin/view to
 nothing
or make it a single folder, e.g. remove /bin (i suppose the

 regarding URL, i wonder if the developers like to go to the REST-ful

2008-03-17 Thread Guillaume Lerouge

 - Click the Administration link in the XWiki toolbar

You can access the Administration toolbar by moving your mose over the small
icon at the top left of the page (the tools on a transparent background, you
maight not see them if you're not using Firefox), on hover the menu will
unfold and provide you with the Administration link Jérome is talking
about (which is different from the Global Admin link on a red background).

- Click the Space rights tab in the administration page
 - Select your organization top-level space in the drop-down list (the one
 without any suffix: Space_MyOrganization, not Space_MyOrganization_Wiki or

One way to do it :

1) Export the blog content in a text/xml file (I guess there are some
plugin allowing this)
2) Attach this file to a XWiki page
3) Write a groovy script that parses the export and creates blog
articles in the wiki

Hi,

I don't see anything wrong in your configuration and the error message
simply says that the provided user is not found in the LDAP server.
Some LDAP bugs as been fixed in the comming XWiki Platform 1.3.1 which
is not exactly about that but the version you have can cause some
problems on AD as the new LDAP authenticator as not been tested a lot
on AD.

You can find the last snapshot of XWiki Core 1.3 branch on
http://maven.xwiki.org/snapshots/com/xpn/xwiki/platform/xwiki-core/1.3-SNAPSHOT/.
Could you try to replace you xwiki-core-*.java by the last snapshot
version ?

Re: [xwiki-users] XWiki WorkSpaces for public service

2008-03-17 Thread Mingfai
Thanks Jerome and Guillaume,

I followed Jerome's detailed instruction and did it. I just realize the
Admin tool bar still exists. And in IE 6 there is no small icon, and in IE 7
the bar doesn't slide in. And btw, I got a little confusion as I don't know
how to save after the green arrow is on. (it's ok now.)

just two quick questions:

   1. could the registration page be set to public in the same way? I
   don't see a Register or similar page on the list
   2. by default, /xwiki links to /xwiki/bin/login/XWiki/XWikiLogin , how
   could i make it direct to other page? like dashboard or wiki or blog page of
   the global space? I think i've checked all admin pages (but not yet scanned
   all doc)

Hope you'll manage to achieve your objectives... We'll be glad to have a
reference from you added on
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/References/once you're done ;-)

Sure, I'll put up a beta site a few hours later. It may be a better to add
to the References page after my site is stabilized. So far I can't find a
better option than XWS for building a organization wiki + member publishing
and sharing site.

  - Click the Administration link in the XWiki toolbar

 You can access the Administration toolbar by moving your mose over the
 small icon at the top left of the page (the tools on a transparent
 background, you maight not see them if you're not using Firefox), on hover
 the menu will unfold and provide you with the Administration link Jérome
 is talking about (which is different from the Global Admin link on a red
 background).

 - Click the Space rights tab in the administration page
  - Select your organization top-level space in the drop-down list (the
  one
  without any suffix: Space_MyOrganization, not Space_MyOrganization_Wiki
  or
  Space_MyOrganization_Blog)
  - Once its loaded, click twice the checkbox for unregistered users under
  view to have it green-checked (it should appear with a red circle at
  first).
  - ... and your done! The _Wiki, _Blog, etc. spaces will inherit their
  rights from that top-level one, so you shouldn't have anything to do for
  them.

  If you want to have registered users able to comment, you can check the
  comment box for XWikiAllGroup as well.

 The first thing I try is the application name / context path. I made it
 the root application and changed the displayname accordingly. And I've
 cleared all cache and restarted already. Looks like the displayname
 parameter doesn't take effect. The following are the html code the site
 generates:

 a small MySQL database here. Let me know if you consider it will help you to
 convince your administrator that to host MySQL there (or any other option)

Thanks for your offer, but i think it won't be necessary :)

  Nope, global.vm is by no means deprecated! But it is now stored in the

 In our company our sAMAccountName is like name.surname, and it doesn't work
 with XWiki. So I've changed UID_attr to cn.

 P.S. I still use version 1.1.2, because it's the only version working
 properly with AD (user is created in XWikiAllGroup). No other version is
 working in my case :)

The new LDAP authenticator (since 1.3) works perfectly with that and
also add group mapping between XWiki and LDAP.

To retrieve the page, download the XAR, go to administration import, add

Hi,

the script seems to retreive a list containing 1 document but for some
reason the job seems not able to retreive this document with
$xwiki.getDocument().
I'd say this could be a right issue, the watchlist job is running with
the XWiki.Admin user permissions.

Have you deleted the XWiki.Admin user ?
Is XWiki.Admin in the XWiki.AdminGroup group ?
If not you'll have to create it / put it in the group then restart xwiki.

hope this helps,
JV.

note to self : could it be possible to use the superadmin user for
jobs if its password is not set in xwiki.cfg ?

[xwiki-users] BulletinBoard application installation

2008-03-17 Thread Glenn Everitt

I followed the installation instructions for the BulletinBoard application
and I added the entry BBCode.Translations in the Administration |
Preferences | Advanced | Internationalization Document Bundles text entry
but when I view ../xwiki/bin/view/BBCode/ I am seeing

bb_bbcodespace

bb_bbcodespaceexplanation

* bb_examplebb bb_goexamplebb

bb_adminbbactions

* bb_createnewbbs bb_adminbb?
* bb_changelookbbs bb_skinbbs
* bb_changetranslationsbb bb_translationsbb?
* bb_apanelisavailable bb_bbpanel?. bb_usepanelwizard bb_gotopanelwizard
.
.
.

Which make me think the BBCode.Translations file hasn't been found. I
looked in the BulletinBoardApplication.xar file but didn't see anything name
BBCode or Translations. Am I suppose to get this file or bundle from
someplace else?

Thanks for any help - Glenn Everitt

Re: [xwiki-users] XWiki WorkSpaces for public service

2008-03-17 Thread Jerome Velociter
 Thanks Jerome and Guillaume,

 I followed Jerome's detailed instruction and did it. I just realize the
 Admin tool bar still exists. And in IE 6 there is no small icon, and in IE
 7
 the bar doesn't slide in. And btw, I got a little confusion as I don't
 know
 how to save after the green arrow is on. (it's ok now.)

 just two quick questions:

1. could the registration page be set to public in the same way? I
don't see a Register or similar page on the list

Yes, you can check the register box for unregistered users, and a
register link will appear on the top right corner for non authenticated
users. The only issue is that XWS action bar does not provide a register
link yet. What you can do now is edit the content of your organization's
space home, and provide this link :
http://yourserver/xwiki/bin/register/XWiki/Register

2. by default, /xwiki links to /xwiki/bin/login/XWiki/XWikiLogin , how
could i make it direct to other page? like dashboard or wiki or blog
 page of
the global space? I think i've checked all admin pages (but not yet
 scanned
all doc)

You can edit Main.WebHome, and change the redirection for non
authenticated users ($context.user==XWiki.XWikiGuest) to your
organization space WebHome.

Hope this helps. Regards,
Jerome.

PS: Thank you for the JIRA issues you raised ;)

Hope you'll manage to achieve your objectives... We'll be glad to have a
 reference from you added on
 http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/References/once you're done ;-)

 Sure, I'll put up a beta site a few hours later. It may be a better to add
 to the References page after my site is stabilized. So far I can't find a
 better option than XWS for building a organization wiki + member
 publishing
 and sharing site.

 mingfai

And also now we have ver. 1.3 working with AD authentication. We

[xwiki-users] Bulletin Board Application

bb_bbcodespace

* bb_examplebb bb_goexamplebb

bb_adminbbactions

* bb_changelookbbs bb_skinbbs
* bb_changetranslationsbb bb_translationsbb?

I didn't see any file like Translations in the BulletinBoardApplication.xar
? Do I need to create page? I'm missing something but not sure what. I've
seen the other postings but...I'm still missing something.

Thanks for any help...

Hi Frantisek,

Would you mind sharing the LDAP section of your xwiki.cfg? Because I want
to confirm something...

In my LDAP/AD configuration, I have to set the --
xwiki.authentication.ldap.user_group -- value to make it work (contrary to
what the parameter description says).

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply - my apologies for the double post. I've been

didn't...I need to work on my patience. All the ways to extend Xwiki make
it a very interesting platform - especially things like the Bulletin Board.
It great from user perspective the user interface is consistent. Nice from
admin viewpoint, same security / group / roles model.

Hi Glenn,

 Thanks for the quick reply - my apologies for the double post. I've been
 nabble-d. Nabble said it wasn't posted so I deleted the post but it
 didn't...I need to work on my patience. All the ways to extend Xwiki make
 it a very interesting platform - especially things like the Bulletin Board.
 It great from user perspective the user interface is consistent. Nice from
 admin viewpoint, same security / group / roles model.

 Glenn Everitt

I've also had this same problem with Nabble: it claimed the message was
not posted when it really was. I've read in some previous thread
something about going the Jive way.

We have been using Jive for several projects here: it will be really
great to see XWiki managing this list and devs one allowing users to
read/post messages without needing a desktop email client. A configured
desktop client is not always available while on the road, or POP3 and
SMTP ports are blocked in some locations. Thus, to be able to use port
80 to follow the opened threads is useful in these situations.

The discussion is within the [xwiki-users] Managing emails in XWiki
(was Re: Roadmap for XE 1.4) thread.

Just my two cents,

Ricardo

Re: [xwiki-users] collapsed panels (continued)

2008-03-17 Thread [Ricardo Rodriguez] Your EPEC Network ICT Team
Hi,

Sergiu Dumitriu wrote:
 Can you try and fix the js?
 Thanks

I didn't fix the js, but this works for me. It works with any (well, at
least one, two or three) white spaces between words in the panel
document name. I've only removed the spaces from the cookieName by using
the replace() method. Thanks to Jonathan Revusky in the Velocity Users List!

$initialState must be set in the panel code. It has two posible
values/states: collapsed or expanded. Thus, the schema of a new panel
would be...

#set($initialState= [collapsed|expanded])
#panelheaderc (Panel Title)
[panel content]
#panelfooter ( )

May I use this syntaxis, [collapsed|expanded], to represent alternative
content?

And the macro will be...

#macro(panelheaderc $title)
#if($initialState == collapsed)
  #set($alternativeState = expanded)
#else
  #set($alternativeState = collapsed)
#end
#set($cookieName = ${context.user}_${panel})
#set($cookieName = $cookieName.replace( , ))
#set($expanded = $initialState)
#set($expanded = $xwiki.getUserPreferenceFromCookie($cookieName))
## Note: We pass the Panel name as an HTML class attribute so that it's
possible to style
## the Panels selectively using CSS.
#set ($specialClassAttribute = )
#if ($paneldoc  $paneldoc != )
  #set ($specialClassAttribute =
$util.convertToAlphaNumeric($paneldoc.name))
#end
div class=panel $expanded $specialClassAttribute
h5 class=xwikipaneltitle onclick=if(eltHasClass(this.parentNode,
'$initialState')) createCookie('$cookieName','$alternativeState', '');
else eraseCookie('$cookieName');
togglePanelVisibility(this.parentNode);$title/h5
div class=xwikipanelcontents
#end

I will move this to an ad hoc Jira issue. Thanks!

Cheers,

Ricardo

 We hope to see you all wearing XWiki apparel soon ;-)

 On behalf of the XWiki Development Team,

 PS : Ricardo, we'd be glad to see the XWiki logo on your sports teams
 shirts :-) You'll find all the images you'll need on the Goodies page
 mentioned above. Don't forget to send us the pictures when you wear
 them - and win ! :-)

Of course we do realize that you would prefer Real Madrid or Barcelona
footbol club to wear XWiki stuff, but be sure: you have here a bunch of
brave XWiki logo warriors! :-)

I see what you say (same behavior here), but I am afraid I've not the
solution. I don't know enough about XWiki structure as to help you with
this issue. Let's see if other can help.

In any case, I keep attentive to this thread.

Thanks!
