[xwiki-users] [myxwiki] XWiki Enterprise 3.0 RC 1 Upgrade

2011-03-24 Thread Vincent Massol
Hi everyone,

myxwiki.org has been upgraded to XE 3.0RC1. If you own a wiki hosted there you
should have a look at the release notes for this version at:
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/ReleaseNotes/

We also strongly recommend an upgrade to the latest wiki version. To upgrade
you must download XE 3.0RC1 XWiki XAR from :
http://maven.xwiki.org/releases/org/xwiki/enterprise/xwiki-enterprise-wiki/3.0-rc-1/

And follow the upgrade guide available at :
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Installation#HUpgradingwikidocuments

To be notified of the myxwiki.org server upgrade you can follow myxwiki on
twitter:

Thanks,

 Hi,

Is it possible to use an external OpenOffice Server that is not on the same

test place, but in production environment this probably won't be the case.

We're using http://code.google.com/p/jodconverter/ to connect to the
OpenOffice server and convert office documents. Here's a discussion
regarding your problem on their google group, raised by Asiri, the
person who wrote the xwiki-office-importer module:

Using a remote OpenOffice server had some limitations at that point.
Maybe you can check if the latest version of jodconverter was improved
in this direction.

Hope this helps,
Marius

I'm using XE 2.7.1 and I'll test also XE 3.0M3.

[xwiki-users] RES: External OpenOffice Server

2011-03-24 Thread Ramon Gomes Brandão - SERINT
Hi Asiri / Marius

I've been looking around in JODConverter documentation and indeed there's no
support for running OpenOffice in a remote Server. The only way I see (in a
very near future, I hope) is running JODConverter as the so called Web
Service mode, which is not available yet on the version we're using in XWiki,
right (3.0beta3)? It's said on Issues page:
http://code.google.com/p/jodconverter/issues/detail?id=40

Asiri, when the web service mode turns available on next versions of
JODConverter, will it be possible to use it in XWiki, in the way to have
OpenOffice and XWiki on different servers? I'm so interested on it because in
our company here, it's not (and I believe it won't be) possible to share our
production container server with an openoffice instance (policy restrictions
higher than we can deal), and we do have a dedicated openoffice server up and
running, on another machine, for other applications. We're running XE2.4.3
without Office Importer functionalities and the main reason to upgrade to the
last version, among others, would be the opportunity window do activate this
amazing feature, what would substantially boost our XWiki experience.

Aren't there any possibilities or approaches in the short term, at all?

Thanks in advance for your precious help.
