I'm trying to upgrade our 5.1 xwiki to 5.3 and I get a lot of warning
messages (5.1 to 5.2.2 upgrade has the same result):

Did you upgraded only the WAR or did you upgraded the wiki pages too
(generally using the distribution wyzard you get when you start XWiki
after upgrading the war).
If you get those warning without upgrading the page this is simply
because the old page you have are using deprecated API like the

I believe you pasted the content of the menuview.vm Velocity template
in the Custom Display meta property of the menuview.vm property
you added to the XWiki.XWikiSkins class. The tutorial doesn't tell you
to do this. You must leave the Custom Display meta property empty.
