Hi,

the feature list for 2009 is exciting indeed :) Thanks to all and please
*forget* about xwiki for next days and relax as much as you can :))

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

P.S. I hope, I will return back to my xwiki activities next year, so be

The XWiki development team is pleased to announce the release of XWiki
Enterprise 2.1 Milestone 1.

Go grab it at http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/Download

It's the first and only milestone of the 2.1 version.

Main changes from 2.0.3:

* Re-design of the actions menus. Split the top menu into 2: one for
wiki and space level actions and one for page level actions.
* New renderer for mathematical formulae based on the Google Chart APIs.
* Added PHP support through a new PHP Macro (note that this Macro is
not bundled by default, you'll need to install it).
* Lots of improvements and bugfixes in order to conform to the Web
Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
* Macro parameter pretty names are now displayed in the WYSIWYG
* WYSIWYG editor performance improvement (Minimize and aggregate
WYSIWYG editor stylesheets at build time to reduce the number of HTTP
requests)
* Upgraded to JbossCache 3.2.1GA version
* Upgraded to Groovy 1.7 Beta 2
* Lots of bugs fixes

[xwiki-users] [docs] User and Administrator Cookbooks: How-to's

2009-10-13 Thread roman.friesen
Hello,

I have added two drafts for User and Administrator Cookbooks:
- http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Drafts/XEDocAdminCookbook
both are linked from the Documentation Main Page draft:
http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Drafts/XEDocMain

I have seen some interesting recipes at the user mailing list. If you
like this approach, please add your recipes in the cookbooks :)

As soon as the draft for the Documentation Main Page is ready, the
cookbook drafts could be activated as well.
Any help/feedback would be apreciated.

P.S. as I have edited this pages from Ubuntu and Windows, some things
are broken, such as info boxes, line breaks...

Thanks,
Roman

not with my user... If I'm logged-in on dev.xwiki.org (user krokosjablik) and

Hi XWikiers,
after a long discussion on the dev list we eventually narrowed down the new
colors for XWiki.org to 3 options (see
http://markmail.org/thread/2b3io6wv4yzr324q for details):

   - [1] Pastel:

http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/ColorThemes/XWORKSPACES2/#Attachments
   - [2] Dark borders:

http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/ColorThemes/PlainBlue/#Attachments
   - [3] Grey borders:
   http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/ColorThemes/XWATCH7/#Attachments

Each of these proposals is a set of colors that would be declined on the
various subwikis of the XWiki.org farm.

Please vote for the one you like best.

I'm +1 for [1]

Thanks for your feedback,
Guillaume

Hi Roman,

Nice initiative, we need to organize better and generally improve our docs.

Quick remark : the valid english is Common Usage, Advance Usage, not
Using.

I think the Common Usage (should we say Basic Usage ?) section would
benefit from a short introduction explaining that XWiki is a wiki, and
what a wiki is, before the list of links.
I would say the Understanding XWiki section could be located just
after Common Usage, as it is still information basic users
can/should read (as opposed to Advance Usage).

Programming of the Content sounds a bit weird, but the idea is there.
Why not Programming in the wiki ?

Hope this helps,
Jerome

Re: [xwiki-users] [docs] draft: XE main documentation page

2009-10-12 Thread roman.friesen
Hi Ludovic,

this page should be just an entry point (main overview) for the available
documentation. Therefore, I think, only humans can decide whether links are
good or bad :)

But probably this plugin can be used to create a page index - an additional
page. This page could be very helpful, not only for users, but also to see what
is the current structure of the documentation = this could help to restructure
that. What do you think?

P.S. current documentation runs on different wikis:
- platform.xwiki.org
- dev.xwiki.org
- enterprise.xwiki.org
- code.xwiki.org
Can the collections plugin handle that? Or just for every wiki one index page?

Thanks,
Roman

We could use the Table of Content which is managed by the collections
plugin.
I could do some modifications to it to make it more usable for xwiki.org.

We would need to decide exactly how we would like it to behave:

1/ Start from the Space home page or only start from the parent of the
current page
2/ How many levels do we want to go down
3/ Do we want to follow all links down or do we want to filter some
   - filter the one that are not in the same space
   - follow only direct childs (that have the page as parent)
   - do not follow links that would be marked as a reference (in this
case we need to add a property to these links)

I suppose you have changed css, haven't you? Can you post the settings you have
changed? Or probably best put it in the xwiki documentation directly:

Thank you,
Roman

2009-09-25 Thread roman.friesen
Hi Caty,

I would just like to know how can I change background colors without hard :)
searching for related css properties in skin files... And as it's a common task
(I think), it would be nice to have the related description (howto) in the
xwiki documentation. That's all :)

Should I use something like server/xwiki/skins/toucan/css/colors/blue.css?

Thanks,
Roman

Hi Roman,

The proposals are made in the Colibri skin with the help of ColorThemes (no
CSS changes beside that). For now they are just proposals and nothing has
changed for xwiki.org.

Thanks,
Caty

[xwiki-users] xwiki documentation relaunch

2009-09-25 Thread roman.friesen
Hello,

in my opinion, the current xwiki documentation is not optimal in many
ways:
- not well structured
- not up-to-date
- unclear where/who/how should take care about that (it's for everyone
editable now, but it doesn't seem to be a really good approach...)

I would suggest to separate the final documentation and writing of the
documentation, for example with two spaces:
1) final docs
   - editable only for the doc team
2) staging (writing, reviewing etc.)
   - with comments
   - editable for all registered users
Among other things (quality), in this way all users can contribute to
the documentation without having fear to make mistakes.

If you like, please create a staging space for the Xwiki Enterprise
documentation, then I could start with a basic structure, process
description etc.

Best regards,
Roman
