Of course you could edit the user directory page and replace it with your
implementation. You’ll get merge conflicts when upgrading next time but you’ll
be able to say you wish to keep your content.
A better solution is to remove the User Directory extension from your wiki
(it’ll remove the “Us
Uploading and showing a personal picture with the User Directory works just
fine. You can also add extra information.
Only downside is that the you are "stuck" with the LiveTable presentation.
