Indeed, I should have used my mind:-( Thank you!
Btw, I did not notice earlier that this code was that old on github. It is
likely unsupported given the unaddressed issues and pull requests.
I forked it and updated the file on github.
https://github.com/maitra/pa-applet
I wonder if Bob Marčan will be open to submitting it to the official repo. He
wrote the spec file, after all, and that is a big contribution here to make it
into a Fedora RPM.
Many thanks again and best wishes,
Ranjan

You have to remove index in 2 places:
uint32_t index = 0;
for (GSList *entry = as->profiles; entry;entry = g_slist_next(entry),
++index) {
You missed the ", ++index" that is not needed.

In Mate, there's a thing called a "Notification Area" that has to be added to the upper or lower panel (the taskbar strips where the menus live, window selectors, shortcut icons, etc). It's a systray, where such apps like you want to run will have an icon, and other notification icons may appear. Other apps can be added directly the taskbar panels. I imagine various desktops may have a similar scheme: They act in such a notification area that has to be present, though it usually is as part of the default desktop settings. -- uname -rsvp Linux 3.10.0-1160.119.1.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Jun 4 14:43:51 UTC 2024 x86_64 (yes, this is the output from uname for this PC when I posted) Boilerplate: All unexpected mail to my mailbox is automatically deleted. (I was not able to get it going earlier because I thought it would work on its own as a system tray.) It works for me now, with volumeicon too if I start pasystray (and not install or use pa-applet). However, I think I will have a binding for pavucontrol on my wbar configuration, and keep pa-applet without the pasystray. It does what I want. Thank you again for pointing me to pa-applet and for providing the spec file to make the RPM. The dependencies for installation are brought in by pasystray, removing it brings it down to 50KiB, however, there needs to be a systray: I use my slightly modified version of peksystray (basically made to conform to ansi, from what I recall) and because I never heard back from the original author, I renamed it for my personal use: https://github.com/maitra/thaali Anyway, the RPM for this is 38 KiB and the dependencies are not additional (anyway, I just pushed the spec file up there). More specifically, pa-applet allows you to control the volume level of the default sink and mute or unmute it. It also allows you to change the active profile of the default sink, which can be useful to tell PulseAudio to redirect audio to the HDMI output instead of outputting to the built-in speakers in a computer connected to an HDMI device. pa-applet is not meant as a replacement to padevchooser[2] or pavucontrol[3], which are much more feature-complete projects. pa-applet offers a more limited feature set, but in a nicer shell, more appropriate for regular desktop usage. Note that this project is not affiliated with or endorsed by the PulseAudio project. #-- %prep %setup -n %{name}-master chmod +rw -R * #-- %build ./autogen.sh #./configure --prefix=%{_prefix} --mandir=%{_mandir} --disable-nls %configure --disable-nls make #-- %install [ -n "$RPM_BUILD_ROOT" -a "$RPM_BUILD_ROOT" != / ] && rm -rf $RPM_BUILD_ROOT make DESTDIR=${RPM_BUILD_ROOT} install find $RPM_BUILD_ROOT/%{_mandir} -type f -exec gzip -9nf {} \; || true cd $RPM_BUILD_DIR/%{name}-master find $RPM_BUILD_ROOT ! -type d | sed -e "s@^$RPM_BUILD_ROOT@@g" \ -e "s@^%{_prefix}/bin@%attr(755, root, root) %{_prefix}/bin@g" \ -e "/^\%{_prefix}\/share\/doc\/.*$/d;" \ > %{name}-filelist #-- %post %preun #-- %clean [ -n "$RPM_BUILD_ROOT" -a "$RPM_BUILD_ROOT" != / ] && rm -rf $RPM_BUILD_ROOT #-- %files -f %{name}-filelist %defattr(-,root,root) %doc [A-Z][A-Z]* ChangeLog #-- %define date%(echo `LC_ALL="C" date +"%a %b %d %Y"`) %changelog * %{date} Bob Marčan - Fedora 43 -- ___ users mailing list -- [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] Fedora Code of Conduct: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/code-of-conduct/ List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/[email protected] Do not reply to spam, report it: https://forge.fedoraproject.org/infra/tickets/issues/new
